  • Hi,. Come to find out Ford installed a bunch of faulty heating cores on the Tauruses of this time period. They usually cause rust colored, thick, antifreeze, frequent over heating, and lack of heat in the winter months. The heater core can be flushed. Lots of people with this vehicle and around this year are having this problem. The core does not unclog with a regular radiator flush, you have 2 unhook the hoses connected to the heater core and flush it opposite its normal flow.

  • Maybe the heater core is cloged.

  • I just replaced the resevior in mine...Slight leak in the bottom of the old one...No problems there now...

  • OK, I guess I'm a member of the overheating 99 Taurus club too. I've replaced the thermostat, now on the third reservoir because the orginal exploded and the other one cracked on the bottom in less than a year. New hoses, flushed the radiator, checked the fans, now I'm about ready to freakout this is my daughters pos. HELP!

  • I tried to flush it out but still have problems. IDK!

  • I've got the same issue. The top things off, when I look inot othe coolant reservoir the water is very rusty. Is it just a matter of having the radiator flushed or coolant pipes flushed? Which one or both? Or do I have a more serious problem. I also think there may be a fan issue. I hear a loud knocking noise that I'm assuming is the fan trying to kick in, but it doesn't it just makes a knocking noise. Could that be a fan issue or just a product of a clogged radiator and things geting hot

  • @smooveface O boy! U sure it ain't the engine knocking?

  • @WizzoPro9476 No. That was my first worry. It only does this when the car starts to overheat. In fact it continues to knock even after the car is turned off that's how I know its not the engine.

  • @smooveface THank Goodness!

  • Been there done that. almost done. how long do your fans stay on and off. time the cycle with the a/c off. let me know, PLEASE!! if you're still have problems.. test the overflow to check for exhaust gases. I might be able to help you and save you some money.

  • @tampadownunder Nah, it's fine now. One of the pipes was just plugged up.

  • Im having the same problem with mines she keeps overheating after a 3 to 4 minute drive pretty quickly too , do you guys think i need to change my thermostat or ???? I need to know because im getting scared to even get in the car just thinking about it exploding one me lol lol i tried putting some radiator coolent because my radiator was off why don't know so i had it put on again other then that the car has been driving pretty ok any advice ?

  • I helped a couple of family members with their overheating Sable & Taurus, both were '99's. It turned out both had 7+ years of crap built up in front of the radiator's cooling fins. I simply took a garden hose and sprayed the cooling fins until they looked pretty clean. To get the best cleaning effect, be sure to spray the water in the opposite direction of the airflow.

  • Did you ever find the cause? I'm having a similar problem with mine. I've replaced water pump & thermostat. Would like to flush it to rule that out but it's too cold now.

  • Also, mine will overheat.

  • @Uberdemon76 Yeah, the coolant pipes were clogged with rust. If you flushed it out, it would probably help.
