You can tell this happened because his grip was very poor. Look how long he had his hands on the grip. When the round is fired there is nothing to eat that, and the flip brings the gun all the way back over top. If he had his grip even and inch or two higher, and firmly held on, that would not have happened.
He's gripping it a little low. You wanna grip as high as you can, especially on powerful revolvers, so your arm is more in line with the recoil and absorbs more of the blast. Otherwise your wrists and arms act as a pivot point and it flies into your face.

generfeld: Yes, you are correct. Since your elbow is a joint; having it bent will distribute some of that force away from your arm. You have almost muscle to counter that force. Keeping your arm stiff allows the force to travel down your arm and into your body. Spreading the force over 60-100kg (depending on your body weight) instead of about 1kg of your forearm. So with those rough numbers you will have 60-100x LESS effect by doing this. Its similar to the principle bridges use.
This is an great example of the 3rd law of newtonian physics. Every force has an equal and opposite force. If a gun fires the same weight bullet twice as fast.. its going to recoil with twice the force.
I think this is the reason people dont realise what happens when you fire a gun.

I tell ya were id did have a problem was a freedom arms chambered in 500 linebough that thing had twice the recoil of the 500 SW
