Government regulations are mainly enforced on small businesses and can put them out quickly. I know this first-hand. So, once again: THE GOVERNMENT CAN'T TAKE CARE OF YOU. Over-regulation is a catastrophe to the economy.

Government can't take care of us, you're correct, but they have more interest in the common good than any corporation (see:outsourcing, oil spills, nuclear accidents, poor food and water quality, unfair lending practices, insider trading, lack of safety measures, etc). If there was NO government regulations, I could decide my mechanic business could dump all of our spare oil into the drinking supply.
