  • they way hey howls in between lines, ghostly even. Its pure super natural. This is a version ive never heard but im not surprised at that really. The lyrics are very provocative, like he's shedding more light onto a story. He labors so hard to produce his sound both vocally and on the guitar. Can you imagine what he was like on the pulpit? Jesus and the Devil probably sat on the front row.

  • the kind of blues you feel in your guts..the devil blues....this is amazing. robert johnson just got bumped off my number 1 for my blues favorites.

  • Although awfully out of tune, he still manages to create a awesome sound and vocal ability. A true blues man!

  • beautiful man! i know this song thanks to the white stripes... but this version is a masterpiece by itself... beautiful indeed...

  • I'm cryin. This makes me cry.

  • Great !!

  • This song is amazing and all but horribly out of tune.. wtf

  • @AdrenLine thats the whole thing about the blues, its supposed to rough, not perfect.

  • @AdrenLine It's completely out of tune and STILL sounds bad ass

  • i wish he could play like back in the 20's and 30's, but hes still got soul

  • One man against the World...

  • @PlayTheBluesPunk I get the same feeling :)

  • what he lacks in teeth he more than makes up for in talent... what a guy.

  • The Father of the Delta Blues..........

  • seriously. this and my cup of coffee are rocking my world right now.

  • so good.....melts in your ears

  • Awsem.

  • The magic of the blues.

Even notorious dislikers seem to have too much respect to dislike.

  • @Aleksandreij thats because everyone knows the blues is one of the greatest forms of music this world has ever seen, its the only type of music where one cant be good if one wants to depend purely on skill, to play the blues you gotta have soul, you gotta feel the blues to play the blues, or else it means nothing

  • Thank you for keeping good music around. All genres of music should be heard by all. Never listen to one type of music. Open your mind to everything out there and it will be the sountrack to your life. Peace.

  • @obwunn

Very well said :) and I'm glad you like it.

  • @obwunn thats what i say

  • 1 dislike. wow

  • There will never be a dislike! And if there is, it would have to be from an accidental slip of the mouse.... This music is too pure to hate on.

  • not a single dislike!

  • son house is the master but warren haynes does a very good cover with derek trucks.

  • John Mellencamp has recorded this recently.

  • son house was known for switchin it up from time to time adding words and changing it up the sound of how he plays the song

  • @JamezFromMaine

Thanks for shedding some light on the matter :) I heard quite a few versions indeed.

  • i reading whats been said here and UR BOTH RIGHT .. THERE IS MORE THEN ONE VERSION OF DEATH LETTER !!

  • i just gotta say to those that point to R johnston as the king of the blues I would say no not at all son and the shieks predate johnston by years and can be heard in johnstons tunes

  • dam i wish i cud play the guitar like that ..

  • Resonator guitars are so COOL and it fits his style PERFECTLY

  • @kickalion

  • @kickalion That is Death letter man trust me

  • @kickalion Yes it is.

  • @kickalion pls.. listen to what he sang.

  • @kickalion unless you knew the man personally you really can say

  • This is one of those guys that it would be sham if he was forgotten

  • @iloveducks313

Definitely :) that's why it's good to share video's with others.

  • this guy was amazing and fucked up

  • @WSMitchell1 I was born and raised in Detroit. His grave site is just 8 blocks from my house. i put a rose on his plot maybe 4 weeks ago.

  • @tweezee He lived in Highland Park for many years after around 76....i visited him with John Cohen one block south of davidson and two blocks east of woodward...... in the days on many 1st generation detroit blues players
