I apologize for my lack of rifle nomenclature but I am new to the world of rifles. When you say you didn't "..confirm your dope..," and are using the "..same dope.." what does this mean? Thank you. L
@lanettetay "dope" is the sight setting required to make the scope's Point of Aim (POA) intersect the bullet's Point of Impact (POI) at any selected distance. It is "dope" as in "to figure out" and is not an acronym like Army manuals incorrectly state.
Now that I have my PVS-14 I can see that illumination is not necessary when using on the back of a day scope. I can see the cross hairs fine. It's cool that the PVS likes to be close to the day scope but I like to be far. That makes the extra length easy too tolerate.
@mocatz187 if you are mounting a pvs-14 behind the day sight, illumination should absolutely, positively NOT be used. It can damage your PVS-14. Additionally using a PVS-14 behind a magnified optic causes other issues such as eye relief. Lastly, the PVS-14 should not be used on hard recoiling systems above .223. If you have it on a .308 it may work great for a while, but you may eventually damage the tube. I suggest selling the PVS-14 and getting a PVS-22.
@LoneWolfUSMC I was looking at an vortex NV compatible for the illumination but your right, I was thinking of putting the PVS14 on the.308. I never considered that those bolt actions I saw with PVS's were.223, that's common chambering for a varmint rifle. I have a gen-2 rifle scope that doesn't hold zero if you take it off & re-mount, I haven't been very happy with the NV riflescope for that reason. I'll keep the PVS14 and buy a PVS22 this spring or summer. Thanks for the advice & happy NewYear.
you should do this on some lower end scopes im looking at the millet LRS line. and i know bushnell owns millet so it would be nice to know what changes from $400 for the millet to $1000 bucks for this scope?
I do not believe it is. I can see the illum well with my naked eye at the lowest setting. This would indicate to me that it could possibly damage a NVD.
@TheAustralianBloke You have to ask yourself what you are trying to accomplish when you mount an optic. Most of the time the reason for mounting an optic low is so that you can get a solid cheek weld on the stock. This is not much of an issue on scopes with adjustable combs. If you attempt to use low rings on an AI you usually find that you are mashing your face into the comb for a proper sight picture.
@pottakuula I can't take credit for the first part of the tracking test. I saw Frank Galli at Snipershide use this to test a scope a few years back and though it was a lot better option than the traditional "box test".
@sniperworx George the average ended up at 3.7". The internal adjustment for the scope was 19.1 mRad. if we chucked this into an angled base or mount then it would have had enough to get past 1K on a .308. However since I was running the flat mount on the flat AI base we just ran out of elevation.
@cozmacozmy We ended up with 3.7" inches average. Factoring in the human element (because I am not a benchrest shooter) I would say that it's an acceptable performance.
I hate the scope, I hate the AI .308- I hate BH match ammo- I hate the beautiful weather that you're shooting in. I hate that I hate i hate. J/K Great detailed review as usual. Looking forward to you doing a some other mid price range scope in a MOA/MOA reticule soon. You military guys favor the Milrad too damn much LOL. Keep the great works.

Do you feel this scope is capable of shooting well at 1000 yards?
enj01sk8t3r 1 month ago
@enj01sk8t3r Absolutely, when mounted on a 20MOA or greater base you can get the elevation you need out of it.

@MrROTTENJUGGALO we plan on some reviews on a wide variety of scopes. It's just a matter of getting some support from the manufacturers.

John, is that illumination compatible with a rear mounted night vision monocular. I know some scopes are too bright even at there lowest setting.
Thanks.

maybe its me but that scope is mounted way to high for my liking. my scopes are mounted about 2-3 mm about the barrel at the objective.
