  • Wow! amazing experiment.

  • umm doesnt really sound like a sitar.. Saw in Cobert so thought I would check it out..

  • saw this on Stephen Colbert :D

  • Awesome, they need some drum sticks if they want to get a bigger grant.

  • theirs too much noice coming off the mechanical parts...

  • Sounds like a guitar...

  • Awesome that you designed, and especially BUILT this inventive tune maker. A sitar that plays itself, Phenom. Congrats to you all!

  • Pennsylvania

  • I personally prefer Ravi Shankar - ROFL -

    but very interesting clip though.

  • super human... i can pluck that fast

  • Haha, Is this what you waste your funds on?

  • i think humans do a little bit of a better job

  • Anyone ever seen or played a one string piano? It works the same and its monophonic.

    Cool sound.

  • pretty cool. would be nice if you put this in western 12 tone system. There is this spiritual undertone to sitar playing that this machine can't capture. Also the timbre is much closer to that of a guitar.

  • very nice

  • great great great

  • interesting..

  • Excellent narration on Dugan's part. What did you guys do this for?

  • Post more samples please, including some full songs. Also, can it do banjo?

  • There's a video on youtube of a guy picking faster than that.

And two hand tapping will get you that fretting speed.

It's still really cool though. :]

  • Thou hath been favorited

  • great science, cool

  • thee is only one string

so how can it play cords

  • Becouse of change of length of string (sorry my eanglish is poor), one string may heve others lenth and simulating other hears...

  • Of course it can have other lengths - it's obvious, and we all know about it. But brianmayrules asked, how it can play chords - because to play a chord you need at least three strings, not one, like at this movie. And I'm also sorry for my english :P

  • But can it play chords??

  • Is that a humbucker I see?

  • no , it's a mini burger, from white castle =p

  • very cool

  • very nice attempt.

    keep the ideas rolling guys.

Meend implementation, zamzam, kana etc....a lot has to be done in order to implement all these.

Also, I did not like the hard hammering style of pressing the frets. ( Are there are any frets???)

  • :D Thanks for making me laugh! was an interesting vid... The robot improvising raga kedar sounded v.... robotic. nowhere near human playing but a fantastic effort nonetheless.

  • thats cool

  • Nothing cooler than a robotic sitar rendition of "Another One Bites the Dust"... except perhaps "Pretty Woman".

  • nice experiment, I was joking ...

  • how to play other scales etc...

  • woooow really niiiciceeeee

  • you gotta work on the "fingers" when they press down cuz they make that annoying tapping sound

    but amazing nonetheless

  • its been a haaaard days night *rockin out* xD

    its great :D

  • so... correct me if im wrong... but this is just a machine that plays guitar correct?awesome just the same

  • dude can you make that thing play something from Dragonforce?

  • P-Man, this thing is awesome. Due to the sorry shpe of Eddie Van Halen, we need to get together and work on the next generation of cybernetic shredder: Eddie-BOT. --Damien

  • genius

  • Whoever thought up this idea must be a connoisseur of beer, wine and perhaps even mushrooms???

  • who is that hot guy at the end of the movie?

  • FREEBIRD!

  • amazing

  • very cool

  • awesome!
