I agree with the context question. But "leftists" are not the ones who are absolutely lost. For example: What about Phil Gramm, McCain's buddy of 15 years? He is McCain's chief economic adviser, and if you know anything about him, you'll know that he is the worst person to have in charge of our countries economics. And what about the whole Czechoslovakia thing? He said that TWICE!
And what about his contradictions about economic progress- First that it happened under Bush, and second that we're worse off now than we were 8 years ago! And why did it take him a YEAR longer than Obama to recognize that Afghanistan should be our focus on the war on terror? What about his ineptitude about Viagra and Birth Control? And also about Gramm: He was an executive at UBS, whose stock has lost 70 % because of its ventures in the sub prime lending market?
No better idea, how about we elect Obama president and let him spend more and tax us more to finance the deficit and his wasteful spending? Think before you say stupid things like that.
wow...I can't believe people actually clapped when the man said social security is an absolute disgrace thats gotta be fixed. Why isn't the mainstream media talking about this? is this not a MAJOR ISSUE? Shit...if you ask me, this is more important than the whole Phil Gramm contraversy. The media is so fuck stupid it aint even funny. Instead of bringing you the facts, they talk about shit like Obama and Hillary fundraising issues and if Bill is still mad at Barak. It's PATHETIC!
Ronald Reagan and Tip O'Neill didn't sit down and come up with a solution to Social Security back in 83. They created a bipartisan commission that worked on the problem and found a solution.
The solution? Raise payroll taxes and increase the retirement age. Not easy choices but choices that need to be made.
Our solutions now?
First we need to eliminate Social Security payouts to people who have a certain high income level. This level needs to be determined.
Second, we need to eliminate the early retirement age of 62 and change it to 65 and we should progressively raise the retirement age to 70
Third, we need to raise again the payroll taxes on all income groups.
And last and most important. Remember the 2000 elections and the LOCK BOX. We need to stop borrowing from the Social Security system and allow that money to get an annual return just as a certificate of deposit would get.
That my friends would give us a temperory solution to our problem. It would make Social Security secure until at least 2050.
These are ideas that a bipartisam commission had come up with and no one seems to listen.
Ronald Reagan knew and even stated that he was not equipped to fix Social Security. He needs far greater minds than his. That is why he created the bipartisan commission. And that is what we need to do today to fix the problem.
Oh no more thing, John McCain did not answer the question at all he just side stepped it by throwing around a bunch of names. He does not have a clue how to fix the system.
Planted questions, straigth talks that doesn't understand the basic premise of the SS structure -- he's an idiot. This is the agenda of the GOP rich, the rich are so greedy, they resent helping those they conceive to be less than they are. These, the people who call themselves "Christians."
What does he care about seniors? NOTHING! He is a multi-millionaire. He owns seven or eight homes and a GUARANTEED taxpayer-funded pension. McCain is a liar and an adulterer. He is not to be trusted. McCain was against torturing before he was for it. McCain was not tortured to make him tell the Vietcong how to fly a jet plane. He was tortured because they "hated" the Americans and wanted to punish him for what we were doing. You have to hate to torture; we are not a hating people.
Does anyone understand what this fella is talking about beyond some vague ranting about LIEBERALS? Honestly, that's one of the most incomprehensible things I've ever seen.
She asks how you fix it and you babble on about the good old days with Tip O'Neil and Ronald Reagan... how about giving a straight answer instead of turning into a characature of the old doddering fool who can't remember the question
I remember that phrase so well: "Six days, six weeks, I doubt six months." Seems like yesterday, but it's been five years now, with no end in sight. Not meeting your own goals is the definition of failure. You neocons PWN failure!
copcorona: Yup, put all your money in Bear Stearns and Enron.
When the RNC (or some rethug org) lost almost $500,000 in a short time on their privatized investments, they stopped using the term "privatize." It was a hoot.
Before SS, the top two causes of elderly death were hypothermia and starvation. That's what the "pro-life" party longs to return to. Those were the days!
John McCain fails to say anything of value in this video. STRAIGHT TALK time to FIX IT it's a DISGRACE we've gotta grab those DEMOCRATS and say SIT DOWN
I like how some people clap after he gets done explaining how workers paying money into a pool for retirees to take out is "a disgrace." I would stand up and say, "What the fuck are you talking about that's the way its always been." McCain admits he's clueless on the economy, but social security too?
Hey ! I got an idea, let's privatize it and let everyone fuck the country up even more, yeah lets let the same dumbasses that got screwed over int he housing market try and handle their own social security and bitch when they don't have any money when they want to retire.
It's sad that a presidential candidate, born just over a year after social security was enacted, doesn't seem to have any clue how it (or any type of insurance for that matter) works. Didn't they have civics or social studies classes in the 40's?
McCain's the disgrace! Answering planted questions to give him an opportunity to discuss his agenda. Besides, dah, that's how the program was set up -- those receiving social security spent a lifetime putting into it -- he doesn't even know his history, how the program was intended to run!
Wow. I can't believe he just said that! What does he propose we do? Stop benefits to current retirees? Leave Grandma hungry and without healthcare? Go private, hoping people don't screw up their retirement?
OMG I have to pay into the system to pay the old farts who paid into it for their entire life? That's not fair to ME MEMEMEMEMEMEEEEEEE!
STFU and GBTW.

John just said "Under the present setup, because we mortgaged our childrens futures, you will not have social security unless we fix it."
THAT IS A DISGRACE. Shaddap!
Now look at your comments. All taken out of contaxt, just like all your talking points! BUH BYE!
