  • I hate it when the best compliment people can come up with is to say that a singer has "courage" or that they have "pluck"...

  • well excuse me but... instead of sayin "Patti who?" go search about her legendary performances and start worshipping her instead of clinging to some uneducated scottish contestant... shame on you people! and no, I'm not american...

  • Drinking Game , Everytime you her "Youtube" take a shot.

  • @pipuk3 people will get extra drunk dont drive afterwards :)

  • LEGEND!

  • "I think I may have won them 'round now" is the key statement in this video, because that beauty of spirit is the beauty that captivates us and wins us 'round, too. Ms. Boyle's story would not matter as much to us if it were not packaged in such triumphant talent; but she would not likely have triumphed if she had become a bitter, carping individual. No matter her lush voice, the world would not have gone into overdrive. Carry on, SuBo, I think we need you.

  • It would take a great deal of courage for Susan to say before TV camera that people DID make fun of her when she was a child. Children can be so unkind toward their own--we all know that! I am so happy that the entire world taken Susan Boyle into its collective heart and that Susan is now surrounded with people who admire and appreciate her for the NATURAL SUSAN BOYLE WHOM SHE IS!

  • Susan Boyle is so gracious, in addition to being a shockingly good singer, and a stunning performer. I'll be forever grateful to Youtube for bringing her into my home, and Britain's Got Talent as well.

  • susan should have one!

    she is so cool!

  • They played a story on primetime news about Susan wanting to quit the show because she's being harassed by ratty stalkerazzi and 'journalists'.

It's disgusting the way 'public figures' are treated...just because she sings, why should her whole life become 'news'? It's no excuse to stalk people. Mainstream media is doing down the drain by even playing 'celebrity news' on their shows. Why anyone wants to see pictures of someone in the supermarket or walking down the street is beyond me.

  • going down the drain*

Oh, did I mention that I despise tabloid magazines? :)

  • susan i feel so bad for you but now your dreams as a singer are coming true live strong and stand up for your self :)

  • they have modelled susan boyle on wilma flintstone

  • Why all these mean comments about Pattie Lapone? She is a legend !...I mean Susan sound great too, but am I the only one who thinks she could have been more enthusiastic, that she got to talk to the original singer of the song?

  • Patti Lapone may have sung the song first, but she certainly didn't sing it any better~ Patti's alright, but "legend"{?}..hmm, maybe to some, but I wouldn't say she's a national sensation, like Susan Boyle has, because of her unusually outstanding voice.

It's about time people were recognised purely for their talent, and not their packaging.

I don't think Ms. Lapone is so well known in Scotland.

  • i disagree. I love susan, and belive she sang it better, but to say patti lupone is not a legend is to be ignorant. patti lupone is a west end and broadway superstar, having originated and revived some of the most beloveded songs and characters.

  • not that big of one if you cant even spell her last name

  • Patti lapone and Elaine Page have trained voices and are great but Susan is like a Cinderella Story. It's her turn

  • its LuPone moron.

  • I realy don't know why people use to make fun of her!!! she looks to me a very wonderful person with an unforgetable voice....wish her all the best

  • From America to Poland From Mexico to Spain Across the world we heard you Our tears have fell like rain They say that God sends Angels To walk upon the earth To teach us lifes true lessons To know what love is worth You are one such Angel And when you came to call You brought the world together With a message to us all
  • What's wrong with the Patti person? I had no idea who she was until I heard of Susan Boyle. She doesn't like to share the spotlight? Not very good showmanship on her part.

  • vut the fact is she is NOT younger and prettier and has to deal with narrow minded people like you her whole life! She deserves this break.

  • VOTE SUSAN BOYLE POSTER BY TOP.VISION now available on ebay. Not many left. Hurry!!!

  • For a change media was nice with Susan... Plenty of full of crap without any decency work in media ...but we arwe lucky to have some decent ones :)

  • What is so wrong with this woman's appearance? She may not be a Playboy Model, but I'll take her any day over Britney who can't even sing!

Look at Elton John and Pavarotti-two of the best voices in the world, and no one cared what they looked like.

Susan shows flashes of comic genius in her personality onstage, and is a consummate professional in how she concentrated completely on her song and nothing else. She was very comfortable on stage. Bravo Susan!

  • I agree! It doesn't matter what they looked like...

    VEDIO KILLED THE RADIO STAR!

    Enough said...

  • "It seems we are going back to our roots. I remember living with my Aunts in Scotland, the pubs closed at 10...as did the TV, no internet, no mobiles...we all sang, as I am sure Susan Boyle and her mother did."

As a mobile phone calling, late night drinking, broadcast viewing, internet user Scotsman, I would like to ask you to qualify that statement.

  • qualify? I am talking about 30-40 years ago...when Irn Bru was only available in Scotland..is that good enough?

  • Suits me nicely. I thought you were riding on us. Apologies.

  • How much do we miss in life when we make a snap judgement about a person's appearance? How many times have we missed the true beauty of any individual by just relying on our pre-conceived notions - whether it be looks or weight or whatever? After seeing this - I say to myself - "Next time - take just an extra moment to speak to, or get to know someone before making a judgement! It may just enrich your life! - Just like Susan Boyle has done!" BRAVO! Thank You God for this experience!

  • The second her cd hits the stores, I own it. This woman is amazing(American here)!!!

  • PATTI WHO? That sums it up.

  • HAHAHA~ thank yoooou!;)

  • Funny, they make a big deal out of pretty starrr Patti's reaction to it, congratulating her and all.. I sort of want to say, "So what..."--WHO CARES how impressed Patti was with it.. "..pretty good on YT.."!!! Uhh.. Patti may have sung it, but she did NOT knock it out of the park like we were privileged to see Susan doing, so why the need to hear her give Ms. Boyle a virtual pat on the head, like, "Good job, commoner" ..{?}~ A bit disturbing, I think.

  • Patti wasn't the first singer of taht song. She's the first english singer, but the play is French. So the first singer was Rose LAURENS.

  • You can see that tho she has a wonderful voice she is still hurting from the tormenting and thngs of that nature because of her demeanor. Listening to her really brought emotions, so random I know. Chills really

  • She emphasizes the word courage over and over and never really mentions the voice that much. Patti Lupone for me is a very theatrical performer with lots of artifice. Susan Boyle does not need the artifice she just sings from the heart without all the gussied up stuff that tends to engulf a performer. That is her appeal. To suggest courage what was there to be courageous about. No a very ungracious comment from a woman who I think has less talent than Ms Boyle

  • This sure did not get Patti Lupone any fans. The condesxending is appalling. Suxh a back handed compliment. I am ashamed as an American that Patti could be so ungracious and yes jealous

  • I agree, not forthcoming. We know who sang it best and it has to hurt to now that. LuPone's vid is posted and bet it hasn't generated 12 million hits. Hard pill to swallow.

  • Really? How so? I'm curious, because I didn't find her condescending....

  • I dont know why some of us brits get upset when they here what americans are saying about her. Americans are snobs, its all about bleeched teeth and all sorts of other crap they call "image", they are sheep and very insecure people.

Just dont liston to them, ok i being a little mean, not all americans are like this, just the majority, it seems.

  • As a american who appreciates all kinds of music, I personally apologize for the borish and low class attitudes of a lot of americans. It's very evident that the British people have been exposed to a variety of quality music...not just the hip-hop and rap crap that's prevelent on our radios.

You go Susan...You rock..and hold your head up high!!

  • Excuse me, I've not bleached my teeth as of late(never), it wouldn't hurt me though.

Narrow minded Pres wanna be. Majority of Americans are just regular people. Only snobs are of the TV/Glam set. They like themselves best and we have contempt for them most of time too because they do make some stupid comments, that do not represent the rest of us. We love Susan, I've listened everyday to her sing, I still cry. She has breathtaking talent, and hope she will come sing Les Mis. She's the best

  • "Americans are snobs, its all about bleeched teeth ... they are sheep and very insecure people..... "

Excuse me... but was that a bunch of Americans in the audience laughing and smirking before Susan began singing?

Which Americans did the judge mean by "everyone was against you?"

This is the "feel-good" story of the year... too bad everybody can't just enjoy it for what it is.

  • Yes it was, and sadly most people in every country would of acted the same way, but my reply was in anger towards americans who still call her a whore etc... even though we just found out shes an excellent singer.

It always seem to be the same, every time we british show what talent we have, its always americans who a here first talking crap about us, i actually went on one susan video, and an american said in the comments, "we saved your ass in ww2".

Now you see my fustrations do you not?

  • I'm an American and I think Susan is just GREAT!! I hope she goes on for the win!!

  • Let's face it... with probably close to 100 million views of Susan videos you're bound to come across a number of dumb-asses. These are probably the same people that sneer at the lion reunion video; not worthy of consideration.

  • @MrPresidentToBe As a native-born American citizen, I want to apologize on behalf of some of my more boorish and ignorant countrymen. Yes, we helped Great Britain in WWII (and WWI), but Great Britain helped the US - well, helped the whole world, really - enrich our cultural heritage, perhaps most noticeably in the 20th century. Just to name a few, there were The Beatles and The Rolling Stones - and then *my* two personal favorite "imports": Michael Crawford and the great Charlie Chaplin. :-)

  • How gracious is this woman? She says she "may have won over" those who used to make fun of her ... so many others would have been far less magnanimous. A lovely person in every way.

  • I believe that Susan can win this and would love to see her record an album and go on tour I would pay good money to see her. Go Susan you inspire all us normal folk who have the talent but not the looks that are commercial. I wish I had half your ability

  • how fitting your name is!

  • After listening to this, I watched Lupone's version of the song on youtube: very professional, very polished, very sophisticated, but also very mannered, very calculated, and rather affected. The same was true of Elaine Paige's rendition (who I had never heard of before). What's remarkable about Susan's performance is how simple, natural, sincere, and genuine it is. And she maintains the ability to to get the message of the song across in an unaffected way in the midst of all that pandemonium.

  • I'm a little disappointed by Lupone's tepid praise here as well; she tends to treat this as if it were just a human interest story.

"You can't really tell a whole lot on youtube.."

You can tell enough to get the entire world talking about it.

"Susan has so much courage and pluck, really."

She has so much raw TALENT. Listen to her rendition of "Cry me a river" on here.

I noticed in the press today that the musical comedy stars they interviewed all have the same reserved, envious attitude.

  • Do these TV IDIOTS realize how RUDE they are? NO!! Having Susan Boyle as a witness to their interview with Patti Lupone takes the cake. Now that we have had the Lapone approval we can rest assured that Susan is talented. IDIOTS!

Make me so proud to be an American.

  • Bloody Americans - such drop kicks!! Susan, not only can sing but she has such grace as well. As for all of you that mocked her as a child, you should be ashamed of yourselves. Never ever judge a book or look by its cover. Can't wait for her cd. What an inspiration!!

  • I agree! I have Amercan friends (hi Gina!) and scottish...(Hi Catherine!) ...

...but it just sounds patronising..it just does...as does the Diane Sawyer interview. I am cringing more at these U.S.A interviews that I was when I Susan gave us a belly roll.

It just does not come over well.

    Sorry.

    GO SUSAN BOYLE!!!!

  • Retarded americans!!!!

  • Those American TV.people are such retards.

  • On behalf of most common Americans, we also think those TV people are idiots and treat others as stupid. Susan Boyle is so very talented. I hope she soars on eagles wings for the rest of her life.....

  • why are they talking to her like she is mentally impaired?

  • this is insulting to susan boyle.

i am very happy for her, but she doesn't deserve to be spoken to this way.

  • Go Susan Go

  • WTF? Why did they bring Patti LuPone on? Do they need her approval or something to say that Susan did a good job? They sound so smug! Susan should have told them to kiss her ass!

  • Why are they asking Patti LuPone anything? We want to hear from SUSAN!!! They got Susan on, all the way from Scotland, so she could mutely listen to Patti Lupone talk on a phone? (No disrespect to Patti.) Give me a break!

  • Yeah why are they so patronizing with her. Like she needs them to speak slowly and in a patronizing way!

    She is not retarded!

  • I agree. The tone of the interviewers seemd patronizing. And Susan doesnt need to get all dolled up, she needs to keep being herself.

  • Bravo Susan from Piauí, Brazil.....

  • Listen to Patti Lupone in Bl0yUKLKj9g. After having heard Susan Boyle, this sounds so shallow.

  • What a horrible interview this is! Shame on you people from CBS!

  • You don't need analyzing

    It is not so surprising

That you feel very strange but nice

    Your heart goes pitter patter

I know just what's the matter

Because I've been there once or twice.

  • Stop the condescension - She has an amazing voice that will/has wowed the world GO SUSAN love from the whole of Scotland - you will put us on the map

  • The poor dear is so nervous. It's ok, Susan. We're rooting for you!

  • oh how sweet she is!

  • I love the way Patti says "YouTube." She's so enthusiatic and endearing.

Oh, Susan does a lovely, lovely job with that song as well, really wonderful.

  • The video won't pull up for me

  • Patti Lupone is jealous.

  • The interviewers are condescending, that is what has kept Susan back for years.

  • Thanks for the clip
