Mary Blacks singing of this lovely song is perfect, comparing others is futile, this is a sad song of a lady bidding farewell to her love as he goes off to France to fight in their army.
oh man...this is a classic. Mary rocks my socks. My newest opinion...Listen to Rosheen's version. They're Canadians. That girl just sounds like an angel.
I saw this on tv a long time ago! I tried recording the song on my phone because it was so beautiful and I've just stumbled on the video... wow! Wonderful, wonderful song. I like the variation of the song that Pentangle did, but this is amazing.
Cagun, A great song and singer, --------if we could hear it.

Does anyone know if there is a DVD of The Highland Sessions? The BBC Four website does not seem to have one. Thank you.

A great version, though the soloist could sing with greater vulnerability, to suit the lyrics.
