@usagirlfriend you dont understand how the tax system works. no one in the top tax bracket, 35%, pays 35% of their income, even without deductions/exemptions. you pay money at each tax rate even if you make 500k. so if there were just two brackets, 10% for 0-1000 and 20% for 1000+ and you make 1500, you pay 10%*1000 + 20%*500 = 200. but 200/1500 = 13.3%, so your effective rate is NOT 20%, and their effective rate is NOT 35%, ever. this is why high marginal tax rates on 1mil+ will not work!
