Don't know where this song originated from - there are Irish, Scottish, English, European, US, Canadian and Iranian versions. Foster and Allen are the definitive version and made it famous.
been brought up with this since i was 2,by the time i was a teenager,i totally was pissed off with it,when i turned 20+ i've loved it and to this day the memories keep flooding back, what great words and id do the same, your sweet heart is the world,to be protected from all and sundry x
one of the greatest songs of all time, i always get shivers when i hear this song it reminds me of when i was young and my father use to come home in the early hours drunk and he always played this x

23 years ago I was a DJ in Greenland, I played this one night for fun, and the " natives loved it ! ended up i had to play this number 3 times a night !
Have great memories of this song... coming back from my granny's house every Sunday and my parents listening to it in the car with my mother crying at the lyrics. Thanks for posting.
LOL, you and I share the exact same childhood soundtrack! Foster and Allen was all that ever used to be played in the car, and always when we visited Nana on a sunday :) we have similar musical tastes too, if your screen name is a Beatles reference! ;)
dad loved this song ,sadly he passed away last april mum was going to play this at his funeral ,until i told her it was about a MURDER.he,d have laughed ,he was a practical joker .Opted for how great thou art instead.
Thanks so much for posting this, I'd been looking for it for ages. My mum used to play it when I was wee and it made me cry. I listened to it just now for the first time in many years and it made me cry again! Soppy thing..
