First of all this is awesome work.. my small tip is that in extreme fore shortening of the face the tip of the bottom plane of the nose will usually break the level of the eyes / bridge of the nose. In other words the nose here looks a little low (to me). A model / mirror should reveal this. My guess is that the nose should be level with the center of the eyes instead of the bottom line. hope this tip helps
hey, great video. i was wondering if you would know how to make digital art/ film; like that of "BEOWULF".... or "STAR WARS: CLONE TROOPERS"(the cartoon series). I would also like to know your opinions on the best kind of software for digital film/ art.
is 6 hours to complete a piece of work adequate time, I know that you can spend more but I had no reference no idea what I was making and well I was just thinking of how to make it from scratch
@Atriedes1337 The time it takes to complete a piece of artwork varies depending on many factors. For example, how complicated the image is, how experienced you are as an artist, even how tired you are. If you have no deadlines, don't worry about the time it takes. A painting is finished when the artist feels it is finished. I often go back to old artwork and work on it a bit longer to improve it. I think Da Vinci once said, an artwork is never truly finished, it is always a work in progress.
awesome what photoshop is this, im new to pshop i hav the prem 10, if this is not prem elements 10 can i still create drawings like if so can u gimme a quick summary how to or link me to other vids turorials thanx nice work
@JeySivaNavam I'm using Photoshop CS4. The tools I use are the simplest and they feature in all current versions of Photoshop as far as I know. All you really need is a blank canvas, the brush tool, the colour picker tool and some creativity.
@MrFolktandvarden Yes I used reference. The image started off as a bit of practice and trying out the video software I was using. Although I often start a painting on a mid-tone background as it isn't as stark as pure white or black. It also allows you to add lighter and darker shades, opposed to just adding the latter onto a white background. It's a bit like working with chalk pastels.
@MrFolktandvarden Sorry, re-read your question. The white area i.e photoshop background was white because it helped me see the edges of my image easier. Other than that, there's no special reason.
you sir are one of my most inspirational artists your tonal values are so incredible and push me to practise, I am very happy to be subscribed to your teachings and work. You have made my day :).
@MikeNashArt Subscribed. I am interested in creating rough-painted, quick, but expressive figures for storytelling purposes, and so I will only be able to use references very loosely. Light is important for this. Do you have an example of your process using little or no reference? Even though you are much more thorough, I think I would learn a lot from it.
@exexlegolasexex Sounds like you're interested in Storyboarding or Concept art? I don't really have any examples of that myself, but you'll need a good knowledge of anatomy, gesture and perspective even though you're creating simplified imagery. Trying looking for comicbook art videos/tutorial books. Even if you don't want to draw in a cartoonist style, the initial technique they use to draw rough ideas that still illustrate an idea concisely and quickly will probably be useful to you.
Did you use a reference for this? And do you use references for most of your work?

This is so amazing. I love it! One question, where did you get the color wheel swatches?
BloodyHeadbutt 3 months ago
@BloodyHeadbutt I downloaded it from Charlie Bowater, an artist. If you Google her, you should find the swatches. :)
