Best weapon for this guy is Moonlight sword.. i was just like.. hmm let me see if this sword does anything to this guy... and... amazing, better than the DBS i was using on him.
@ajaxfordutch you have to either kill Ostrava to get the key early or you can proceed with his questline and save him in each part of world 1. he is located if after you kill the blue eye night in front of the fog gate (you can get there easily from the first shortcut that you open). as you go through the fog gate, there will be some stairs to go down and a short wall to your left, you need to jump over to the right hand side of the wall otherwise you will die, Ostrava is just down there :)
I use cheap tactics (mostly spamming soul arrow) on bosses that can be killed with it, such as flamelurker and tower knight (I just halved knight's life). Am I playing it wrong?
It was kind of funny how it all went down for me in my first playthrough... I hadn't even beat Phalanx yet, and I made a blue claymore-knight and an axe-wielding soldier kill Ostrava so I could pick up the key. Then I faced Doran and took his hp down by 25-30% to get Demonbrandt, on soul-level 1, before I could even level up my character lol...
That sword was then my fav until I found the Uchigatana... Now I'm on NG+ and I'm working on getting double Crescent ones :D
At my first playtrough, Ostrava wasn´t chilling in the stairs before the last boss, where he should be : d. Only his black phantom was there, and naturally, i killed him.. So no Demonbrandt for me, i quess...

@YGT224 Dropping Dragon Bone smasher, the weapon he used to kill doran. You mentioned that you cant get it. In any case Google "demon souls wiki" and they have a very good website with hints for getting gear and mats. On my 2 characters I have multiple Dragon bone smashers sitting in bags. i dont use them as 2 of my characters are mages (I play on 2 accounts and have 6 toons). SO I was saying if you want that weapon, I can join you in game and will drop one for you and you can pick it up.

@ryomazaky15 I think all except Biorr's armor have to be obtained by killing them. Biorr's armor can be Obtained in PBWT in 1-1 near executioner miralda if you know what i am talking about. But I have to say this kings armor is still best considering teh weight and stats
@YGT224 I'm not sure, but I thing that a bigger health bar won't help you at all, the reason for that is that doran's attacks are so powerful that kill you instantly regardless of your HP or armor.
@YGT224 Well there is an easy way to kill him. Infact even if you just started the game you can kill him with shit loads of either arrows or shit loads of spices for mana. Notice the point 5.43 in video, this is the point when he starts to run back. So all you have to do is stand where the guy is standing in video and shoot soul arrows. Run back if he comes out (normally he wont) and he will go back in. It will take time but You can kill him. Same thing with arrows. Shoot 2-3 arrows and run out.
i beat him with out all that SUPER strong equipment. all i had was black leather and a crescent falc thingy. and just kept runing behind him back stabed until he was dead. UBER SKILLS. dont need all that stuff to beat him. just a REALLY REALLY good strategy
This is bullshit. There is NOT ONE video that shows you how to beat the beginning of the game...AS A NEW CHARACTER.
So the trick to getting past the beginning of the game is to have already beaten it? Quick! Somebody send me an effing NG+ file, because this game is bullshit!
@Cantido What character class did you start as? There are a couple classes that are way easier to start as (like the Royalty) and others that you really shouldn't pic for your first character. Also, it really does take a bit to get used to this game and its mechanics. Don't be afraid to look at a wiki for some tips, and be patient. I remember I spent 5 hours playing with my first toon, just to restart with an easier class and go and beat the first area in 30 minutes.
@Cantido Yeah dude the first area is a challenge, but shouldn't be *that* hard or even close to impossible to beat. Soldier / Royalty / Templar Knight are the three easiest characters to start out with. Thief isn't bad either (although more difficult than the other three). Any other class is very difficult though. What class did you use?
honestly man, you had the DBS, just two hand it and stun lock him, would have been quicker. I did it with only strength 30 on NG+, no upgrades on the DBS, not any enchantments, took me a while, but as long as you get the timing right (which is pretty easy), you can take him out with 0 risk. do it in hyper mode with curse weapon and you'll have him dead within a minute.
@mat1tray1mike 2 ways: farm babies from world five area 3 with aoe magic. Or get world 5 down to pure black world tendency, in world 5-2 there is a giant depraved one black phantom, he drops ephermal eyes every time, but he can also one shot you so bring firestorm or something.
this guy is so tough i havent even been able to beet him yet but now that i have the bone smaher (a.k.a. keel smasher) i'll be able to beet him hopefully

what ppl don't understand about this game, often time is, it's not so much a game about killing demon's and levling up to kill pple, no. it's about something much more, its about inviting your friends over when u first get it and have them laugh at u for dying twenty times before getting to the first "check-point" type place in level one, then running straight into dragon fire on part two of level 1, then dying to tower knight endless times, not knowing when to get close. this is demons souls.
@Zeruckiven Don't forget the hair ripping stress of traps like the fire barrels of 1:1 and the mine carts on 2:2. It's literally a game about dying. A lot.
@Grumat Fire barrels didn't really annoy me that much. luckily i went to open the gate before going through the fog and a zombie exploded himself so i caught on pretty quickly to that lol. what happened on 2:2 was funny though. i chased the mole past all the golems cuz they were just mining away, but i turn around and see all of them coming at me and i didn't know about the secret way down on my first playthrough. it's quite the horrible trick they did with that mole.

@tito4761 Use a stone of ephemeral eyes, commit suicide. Repeat until you have pure black world tendency (You can tell by the black archstone when you select "World Tendency" in your pause menu. If it doesn't match the color of the broken one, die some more!)
He loves his fireballs and firespray, so I suggest strafing back and forth until he finally runs out of MP, and then just block and counter.
@Advarious ah, i see. i due to it's description, i was always afraid to use it, thinking that it would have some huge cool down time, or once per level, or possibly once per game, but now that i know this, i'm a bit taken back at it's OPness. does it work in other pple's world's too?
@Zeruckiven It's one of the most common spells in PvP, or even PvE...As for OP, well..it only saves you from one hit. If the second hit's going to kill you, you better find some way to get out of the attack, or you're still done. Also, don't die by falling-It doesn't work in that case. It can save you from death, but, personally, I think Warding is a lot better, since the damage mitigation from Warding can basically outdo two casting of Second Chance (or more)...but only with physical.
@Advarious btw, to farm the eyes, just go to level 5. i believe the giants give them to u, and if they're too hard (they can be on new game +) then just kill the unborn fetus babies (it's a good thing this game isnt disturbing at all) that are in the plague swamp on the seemingly innocent woman. i would use range attacks, seeing as plague does buckets of damage, and w/e u do, do NOT go in too deep unless u've killed a bunch. they will swamr u with their bloody daggers.
@Zeruckiven Or, do the duplication glitch and get 99 of them in your stockpile. I think mine's safer, requires less time, and is repeatable at whim. Perfect for when I go through this entire game in body form, and get nailed by a few BPs on the way.

The armor is crap but the sword is pretty good after you combine it with the other one. But yeah that armor is gotta be the fugliest shiet in gaming fashion ever. BTW, hes the easiest fuckin demon in the game, the hardest might be the firelurker
@Darkxsky86 actually the sword kinda sucks unless your making an nr vit gouge build and the armour he drops is bassically the best armour for males in the game (with the binded set making the matching female equivalent) and the ring is extremely useful too.
@Darkxsky86 His armor gives no stamina penalty, has good fire resistance, and has better defense than the lighter armors. Also I found him much harder than Flamelurker.
i really dont think its worth killing him at all.the armour and the sword is crapp....should have been a sword like "the master sword in zelda" ranged dmg with full hp :D
@superford500 seriously, It's only 20 units of weight for the whole set (so using standard 40 endurance you can usually wear it with two weps a shield and a catalyst/talisman without fat rolling, it has very good defences, and because it's classified as light armour it doesn't slow down your stamina regeneration like other armours (dark silver, fluted, brushwood, gloom etc.).
@superford500 uhh it's impossible to not fat roll with 40 end and full brushwood without using RoGS because full brushwood is 45 units of weight and 40 end gives you 69 equip weight and 45 > 34.5 and that's without and other things such weapons or shields, so either your lieing about not fat rolling, lieing about your rings, or lieing about your end.
@superford500 and also you do realize that full brushwood only blocks about 15 more physical damage than ancient kings and actually blocks *less* magic and fire damage than the ancient kings set, right?
@superford500 ummm I don't know if you read my other comment on how it's impossible to not fat roll with brushwood at 40 end without using RoGS but anyway +10 weps and blind are kinda pointless it's much better to use specialized weapons on specialized builds, (crushing on a str build, sharp on dex build, blessed on fath build etc.), and in adition to that for pve dragon +5 weapons tend to work extremely well, and the blind just sucks it's max damage even with 99 dexterity is only 210.
@deathyou9000 my +10 weapons deal alot of dmg. great sword is base dmg 500... so on ng ++ i can still kill easy. well well im not fat rolling..maybe i play better.. i guess :)
@superford500 umm great sword +10 base damage is only 260 probably about 290-310 2h and using the r2 attack while 2h probably does about 350-370, I thin what you mean by base damage though is just the damage without buffs, but that's not base damage that's your ar your base damage is in the weapon screen is says 260 +80 or whatever the +80 isn't part of the base damage only the numbers on the left side are base damage the +(random number here) is your added damage by stat modifiers
@superford500 you said you had 40 end... and the best weapons for you to use would really be a bbs, meat cleaver, quality weapons, and that kinda stuff that scales with quite a few things pretty well.
@dbadgones If you take his health to 75%, he will congratulate you and let you take the sword. He won't attack you again unless you take his health to 50%, then he two hands his weapon and gets serious. Hope I helped!
Here is an easier way(noobs especially pay attention). if you go around behind him during his speech and backstab him he will restart his speech, thus you can effectively kill king doran at a very low level with the crappiest of weapons

what ppl don't understand about this game, often time is, it's not so much a game about killing demon's and levling up to kill pple, no. it's about something much more, its about inviting your friends over when u first get it and have them laugh at u for dying twenty times before getting to the first "check-point" type place in level one, then running straight into dragon fire on part two of level 1, then dying to tower knight endless times, not knowing when to get close. this is demons souls.

@Grumat Fire barrels didn't really annoy me that much. luckily i went to open the gate before going through the fog and a zombie exploded himself so i caught on pretty quickly to that lol. what happened on 2:2 was funny though. i chased the mole past all the golems cuz they were just mining away, but i turn around and see all of them coming at me and i didn't know about the secret way down on my first playthrough. it's quite the horrible trick they did with that mole.

@tito4761 Use a stone of ephemeral eyes, commit suicide. Repeat until you have pure black world tendency (You can tell by the black archstone when you select "World Tendency" in your pause menu. If it doesn't match the color of the broken one, die some more!)
He loves his fireballs and firespray, so I suggest strafing back and forth until he finally runs out of MP, and then just block and counter.

@Zeruckiven It's one of the most common spells in PvP, or even PvE...As for OP, well..it only saves you from one hit. If the second hit's going to kill you, you better find some way to get out of the attack, or you're still done. Also, don't die by falling-It doesn't work in that case. It can save you from death, but, personally, I think Warding is a lot better, since the damage mitigation from Warding can basically outdo two casting of Second Chance (or more)...but only with physical.

@Advarious btw, to farm the eyes, just go to level 5. i believe the giants give them to u, and if they're too hard (they can be on new game +) then just kill the unborn fetus babies (it's a good thing this game isnt disturbing at all) that are in the plague swamp on the seemingly innocent woman. i would use range attacks, seeing as plague does buckets of damage, and w/e u do, do NOT go in too deep unless u've killed a bunch. they will swamr u with their bloody daggers.

@Zeruckiven Or, do the duplication glitch and get 99 of them in your stockpile. I think mine's safer, requires less time, and is repeatable at whim. Perfect for when I go through this entire game in body form, and get nailed by a few BPs on the way.

The armor is crap but the sword is pretty good after you combine it with the other one. But yeah that armor is gotta be the fugliest shiet in gaming fashion ever. BTW, hes the easiest fuckin demon in the game, the hardest might be the firelurker

@Darkxsky86 actually the sword kinda sucks unless your making an nr vit gouge build and the armour he drops is bassically the best armour for males in the game (with the binded set making the matching female equivalent) and the ring is extremely useful too.

@superford500 seriously, It's only 20 units of weight for the whole set (so using standard 40 endurance you can usually wear it with two weps a shield and a catalyst/talisman without fat rolling, it has very good defences, and because it's classified as light armour it doesn't slow down your stamina regeneration like other armours (dark silver, fluted, brushwood, gloom etc.).

@superford500 uhh it's impossible to not fat roll with 40 end and full brushwood without using RoGS because full brushwood is 45 units of weight and 40 end gives you 69 equip weight and 45 > 34.5 and that's without and other things such weapons or shields, so either your lieing about not fat rolling, lieing about your rings, or lieing about your end.

@superford500 ummm I don't know if you read my other comment on how it's impossible to not fat roll with brushwood at 40 end without using RoGS but anyway +10 weps and blind are kinda pointless it's much better to use specialized weapons on specialized builds, (crushing on a str build, sharp on dex build, blessed on fath build etc.), and in adition to that for pve dragon +5 weapons tend to work extremely well, and the blind just sucks it's max damage even with 99 dexterity is only 210.

@superford500 umm great sword +10 base damage is only 260 probably about 290-310 2h and using the r2 attack while 2h probably does about 350-370, I thin what you mean by base damage though is just the damage without buffs, but that's not base damage that's your ar your base damage is in the weapon screen is says 260 +80 or whatever the +80 isn't part of the base damage only the numbers on the left side are base damage the +(random number here) is your added damage by stat modifiers

@dbadgones If you take his health to 75%, he will congratulate you and let you take the sword. He won't attack you again unless you take his health to 50%, then he two hands his weapon and gets serious. Hope I helped!

Here is an easier way(noobs especially pay attention). if you go around behind him during his speech and backstab him he will restart his speech, thus you can effectively kill king doran at a very low level with the crappiest of weapons
