People alter every single ecological niche of the life around them to suit what they find to be acceptable. Humans accept every living thing as the purpose it has and can accomodate the change it brings. With plants predating men and dinosaurs in kind, I think the plants have more stomping ground rights than any person.
I want to grow this Giant Hogweed alongside with Poison Oak (or Poison Ivy) some blackberry vines and that yellow Opuntia which leaves thousands of little slivers in the skin. WHY?
I don't like prowlers and because of the rise of incidents like home invasion and burgrary, I think it is high time to encircle your turf with some of these. Just to be fair, put a sign around your property line to warn others. If people would want to harm you and your family, then there will be Hell to pay!!!
@Nguli34689 Why would you even think about planting these in your property? Do you not care about the neighbourhood you live in and all the people who you love? Are you that narrow thinker? Of course the community will get angry at you and they have the right to get it removed. And you say you would make them pay? Do you know how dangerous these plants are to our enviroment? Think about the blackberry bushes which are everywhere, replaced by these fast reproducing plants. Think about it.
@crystalidx I posted two comments. The first one was about Poison Oak and Gian Hogweed. That was said in jest and should not be taken seriously. Some healthy skepticism would do you good. If you believe everything you are told then the probability that you will believe the likes of Jim Jones, Sun Myung Moon, and others will be great.
The second comment was not said in jest and yes, most people who make comments about non-native plants really know very little about what they are talking about.
@BananaJSSI Agreed! The problem today is that non native species are being exploited by herbicide companies who use gullible people as their stooges. It is not the plant's fault. The islands of Hawaii are teaming with plants that just happened to grow there and not because of some "exotic incident". Thank you again.
@Nguli34689 Every plant has a purpose, and to wipe them out with herbicides is just wrong! Like I said, Man is the worst introduced species to certain areas. They are the ones that trash the environment! Cheers
Easily my favorite weed. It's insane - if you touch it, the clear water-like sap will morph your skin causing ultraviolet light to burn it immediately. Often results in permanent blackish purple scarring and the effect can last over 2 years. Working for the parks dept. of my city, these suckers were public enemy no. 1. There was a 7 yr old boy that died from being covered in the sap.
They are just harmless as long as people respect nature and do not hurting them and no juice from inside the leaves got on human skin in direct contact with the sun.
I would'nt recommend touching Giant Hogweed, just as I would'nt recommend anyone to eat a toadstool.
But, not only the Giant Hogweed contains Phototoxic Furanocoumarins. We can find them in many other Plants like : carrots, celeriac, parsley, Heracleum sphondylium that is under natural conservation.
So should we hate all those plants or wipe them out?
What most people in the anti-exotics movement today may not realize is that anti-exotic legislation is sponsored by American Cyanamid and other agribusiness companies. Wiping out the common farmer went well with them and how would it favor these people if you could no longer grow your own textiles, foodstuffs, and medicine? Follow the money trail. The exagerrated banality of "Scotch Broom" is taken out of proportion. Few even know what French Broom, Spanish Island Broom, and other brooms are.
@Nguli34689 The most invasive species in my opinion is man. People her eon our small island bitch and complain about exotic plants taking over. The worst introduction to these islands were civilized man. They are the ones that screw everything up, not some plant.
@BananaJSSI Fuck you asshole you are just a selfish murduring son of bitch you would not have the words to say the awful things you say if it were not for civilization you are also a person and let's face it we are creatures to so stop acting like I am a motherfucking disease.
When cow parsley is in full bloom on a warm day and the sun is shining on it, its blossoms give off a powerful fragrance, sweet and earthy. I love it.
@brownsugar991 Good! I hope it creeps the prowlers away. If not, then my shotgun might have to. It's a matter of survival and I won't have me or my family harmed by those who have no respect.
Oh my god, amazing plants. I have one growing in my front garden, just found out today what it is. Genesis even wrote a song about it. Must see if my one sings...
Giant Hogweed stings. If you grab the stem, it vibrates in your hand and then it fires off a terrible sting. Also they can grow just about anywhere and are the only plant with intelligence. Some even have emotions.

@HandofEarth I think both darwin and the church would disagree with you. Plants don't have souls.

Knowing what they are, I can't see the beauty them. You couldn't pay me to go near that field.

Do you fear they are going to eat you up?

No...I'm afraid of *touching* them. They're not harmless in any way, shape, or form--look it up.

Thats a lot of bs (they can grow in sand but need a fair bit of water) but they can irritate the skin and I don't like them much.

omg what if they invade the beaches :O

I think someone read 'The day of the Triffids' to much :D
For proper info about Hogweed I'd rather check Wikipedia.
