Thanks for this version. I was looking for the extended version broadcated with Eurovision Song Contest and the nice Bombard player at about 3:18for ages.
i saw HHF in Waterloo Ontario Canada at the University of Waterloo Federation Hall in about 1990 and it was easily the best live performance that I have ever had the privilege of being present for.
If I remember right, the song was wrtitten for a mother whose son was dying of cancer. She's imploring him to "stick around and laugh awhile". Absolutely brilliant song, that you can appreciate at many levels.
I´m ols enough to have been young in the 1980´s - and I remember this song VERY WELL from the Eurovision SOng Contest in Dublin that year...
I remember thinking that compares to this song - all the contest songs were worth nothing...!!!
I think that many will agree with me when I say that Hothouse Flowers is one of the most underestimated bands in the western world - but, also one of the most important bands; at least for all of us who still enjoys their music. Lot of love to Liam & Co :-)
I was also fortunate to seem them in Toronto this first tour and met them all back stage. I know it was written for a friend of the bands' that passed away
This song was written for a friend of the band who had been in a motorbike accident. They were quite young at the time (18 or so) and visited him in hospital while he was critcally ill. He subsequently passed away and this reflects their feelings at the time. Apologies if this has posted twice. Technology, eh?
The extended version of this video was made for the 'postcard ' section Eurovision Song Contest held in Ireland. I worked for Ryanair at the time and we flew the band to Spain (you'll see the cockpit view and photo of A320 at the end)..
I was watching a aprticularly dull Eurovision contest back in 1988 (?). It was being broadcast from Ireland, anyway, and they took a break. Wogan (for it was he) introduced a band called The Hothouse Flowers to play a song during said break. It was by far and away better than any of the typical Euro entries. It was 'Don't Go'. I rushed out and bought the 12 inch single immediately - but it certainly wasn't this extended version.
This song was not that big in Canada, i heard it on a Q station and i loved it right away.I rmeber reading an article in the Toronto newspaper about them and the writwer said that this grouo was going to be the next u2.. I don't think that happened, Did it.???
@notgonnabenice The song was big in Canada in 1988. Everyone was looking for the next U2 in the late 80's from Dublin. I think Bono helped on the album as well, Google it.
Hey, I had been looking for this extended version for 20 years! I saw this video in a TV show and I fell in love with the band. I bought the LP and the 7" when they came out, but this extended version was impossible to find. For years I occasionally searched the Internet for it, but to no success. Until today!! :D

Sinead O'Conner used to bitch "Oh, sure if I had U2 as friends I'd be as big as them".
Huh, Catholic and rippin' the Pope's picture on SNL - yeah. that works.
I have this album on cassette in my basement but a dead player.
Miss them - hope they've remained and maybe we left them...

The best thing Sinead ever did was a duet with The The on his Mind Bomb album.
