shrimp safe? I have mine with cherry reds and i was wondering if they will hunt and easily kill my speedy cherry reds? i hope not. I feed them plenty.
Gruesome but fascinating. My 2 JTS's are slow pokes, they would never be able to outrun one of those snails. Even at regular speed those snail eaters are faster than my 2 JTS's. 40 snails in a week? unbelievable. Great video.
That happens sometimes. Even though I have lots and lots of these, sometimes I can't find a single one moving around - they do like to bury themselves as well. Odds are it'll be in another place tomorrow.
great. thank you. hmm, i have a quite a few snails in my tank that came complementary with the plants. if i get 1-2 of these assassins, do you think it'll take care of those jokers?
Depending on the size of the tank, a few Assassin snails should be able to keep the snail population within reasonable limits. When I added 40 snails to a tank containing 8 assassin snails, they'd eat all 40 of them within a week.
They will - most of the snails in the video are offspring. Only bought 8 adult ones. I've had them for more than a year now and they haven't become a pest like some snails do from time to time.
these are so cool! you should share this with others at aquariaspot, com! all you have to do is embed the code from here on there and you will have millions of new views in no time!
They have a greyish tube (much like the trunk of an elephant) which they use to smell their surroundings and find food. They often follow the trail of other snails and eat them when they catch up with them.
At 3:35 in the video you can see a large assassin snail eating. It does this using a second reddish tube which is visible below the greyish one.
Awesome, thanks for sharing. I've just learned about this snail very recently and I think it'd be interesting to keep this snail. Pond snails and ramshorn snails are invading my cherry shrimp tank and it might be time to bring them under control.

@ciciironwill27: They are shrimp safe. I keep some with red cherry shrimp as well. No problems at all.

it looks like the malaysian trumpet snails are not being picked off by them, is that true?

They are eventually eaten, but it seems to be the Assassin snails least favourite prey. If anything else is available, they tend to eat that first.
