My first time facing him, I never expected his rushing with the combos and the random use of Hellfire. That however, taught me to love the Guard command.
If you're careful, you can lock Ifrit up in a chain around 8 Blizzards before he performs Hellfire
This fight was quite difficult when I tried it on hard mode. It took me a few tries, but what I found was that, if you use 3-4 sword attacks, then just run to dodge his attack that will come in the next few seconds, you can take 0 damage until his hellfire. After that though, Ifrit begins to move at a slightly more spaced out rate, allowing you to cast blizzard easily in chains. You will most likely, however, run out of MP once or twice with just blizzard attacks. (also, don't get cornered)
Here's a good strategy. Keep on normal attacking until the first modulating phase. If there isn't one, keep attacking until the first Hellfire attack. After that....heal and keep blizzarding

i just beat him on my hard mode no materia no accessories challenge (story only, im using em on missions to speed up level growth)
took me 3 tries and he used up my pheonix down and most of my potions
when and if i finish it im gonna do a llg as well
um... Crow132... as i got no way of sticking it on youtube you wanna give that challange a go?
i wanna see how a good player would do it

lmao yeah i picked hard mode @ first and didn't realize I was getting myself into a 9 minute boss fight and a 2 minute cutscene I cannot skip.

Sorry, but you inflicted a LOT more than 6720 damage to take him down. I'd say he has more like close to 15,000 HP based on this video.
