  • If your in a boat and its sinking. you stay in it. Its is more dangoures to get out of the boat. Cus then your risking others lifes too. And the boat doesnt sink that fast. so they would be fine. Im a coxswain. And im glad this hasnt happened to me. i feel bad for those it did happen to

  • I wish Head of the Charles had this weather more often...been pretty shitty lately...

  • stupid asians swimming across the course, i thought asians were smart

  • im hoping this was a high school event because i think i just saw the high school i graduated from rowing in the end of this video :)

  • Oh hey, me too! Youth 8's womens. I didn't see any collisions, but my whole boat did almost get hypothermia. brrrr.... Collisions like that one you saw unfortunately aren't unusual in HOCR... our river is so twisted and the bridges are SO inconvenient, it's really easy to crash. It's a coxswains race, for sure.

  • Yep. there was a collision earlier in the race, and they got a crack in their boat. But there's a sharp turn at this bridge and when the coxswain used the rudder it split the seam and sank it.

  • Who can that be ? A crash ?

  • I've rarely seen an eight tip, it would of been nice to see eariler parts of the race

  • haha i love how the coxie just stands there like "what now?"

  • haha they are going to come out of the charles with an extra tentacle.. nasty water XD!!

  • The Charles is a lot cleaner now. No more dead fish found on the shore line. lol I remember when it was filthy nasty years ago when I was growing up in Boston. Dead fish were all over the place.

  • haha nice ... Is it safe to swim in?

  • Actually the Charles River Swimming Club one mile swim race just had their second annual event, last June. The water is getting cleaner and cleaner. Pretty soon you'll be able to drink from it.

  • yeah, it's safe to swim in it. I jump in it every year

  • brilliant work, block the entire river why not, not like theres a race going on or anything!

  • ohh dude that blows, what boat was it?

  • you're stupid and uneducated

  • @devilorgod i don't know if you know this, but your argument is really really stupid, not to mention nonexistent. care to name some reasons why you don't like rowing? or have you not yet evolved past the reasoning skills of a chimp?

  • Stay with the bloody boat. Why do people decide to randomly start swimming acorss the river or lake during competition. such a joke

  • you have NO idea what you're talking about

you wouldn't last one day. rowing is the most physically demanding sport in the world

  • lol...ur sir, are a homo

  • @stfu1355 no race lasts that long, so no its not

  • @devilorgod

I'd love to have you out sometime with my crew. We could do a 5000 meter piece. You might even still be breathing by the end of it. Pussy.

  • i row in the charles, and can i just say, EW. it is freaking DIRTY and DISGUSTING

  • roflmao

  • The Cox and the boat both are/were MIT's. It is actually a good thing they got out of the boat. The oars are a certified flotation device. However they will either keep a water logged boat a float or a person each, not both. I pains me to see HOC officials have no clue what to do.. They have 2 boats of officials there.. one should be in front of the underpass waving off on coming shells until the submerged boat was pulled out of the way.

  • L. O. L. That's what you'll get from PKU.

  • how the fack did that happen

  • check the row2k pictures.. they ran into another shell, lost their bow, and went submersible.

  • hahahhahah that stuiped lady cant swim hahahaha thats so funny

  • She is following protocal, by swimming across the course the others are endangering all of the other racers.

  • Your meant to stay with the boat, unless u want to get impailed on on comming boats.

  • Funny stuff.

  • Hahaha, I had heard so much about this. I didn't see it happen, but I raced my single in the 1x Mens Club race. Wow, truly funny.

  • Note to cox: Head Of The Charles <> Bumps

  • chinos qls penkas...como se dan vuelta en un 8

  • they all cock

  • Another team didn't hit them in the bow, they rammed someone's stern...clearly the Peking coxswain's fault. However it is really terrible that they sank in the place where they did. That course is hard enough to navigate under the bridges as it is...but throw an abandoned underwater 8 into the mix....in the middle of the course....that really sucks. I feel bad for the crews who followed, which had to weigh enough.

  • Gosh you people really do not know what happened do you? Well here is what happened they they had gotten hit by another team in the bow, which that blow had cracked the bow, but the piece snapped back into place. Then it came open again once they rounded the turn that you can see in the above video at the top in the beginning where boats are coming from. And that is all I can think of to say at the moment to you people.

  • thats what happens when you put a head of the charles volenteer with 30 days coxwain experience in a head race..

i mean pking came all that way without a coxwain. are they dumb?

  • Their cox got detained in customs or something like that...s/he didn't have his or her visa in order, I think.

  • Just how did they make fools of themselves? Stupid comment!

  • Common sense of the coxswain???? This is the same coxswain who just decided that running into another boat was a good idea! How fast the crew was is debatable, but the fact that her actions spoiled the regatta for a number of crews is not debatable.

  • They were indeed quite fast, but not well coxed. They hit another boat (mine) badly enough to turn it perpendicular to the course and crack their own bow, but the coxswain says that such things happen "all the time." Not so.

  • Dude, your boat caused the collision - your coxwain sucks.

  • They didn't make fools of themselves. Those that saw them rowing know they were moving fast! I'd like to see their split times, which have not been released.

  • I am bummed for the Peking University crew who were having a great race up to this point and may have been in contention for a medal.

  • The cool bravery and plain common sense of the cox in this incident is impressive. Had she abandoned the boat as the rowers did, it would have been invisible for the following 8's.

  • What a pitty. They flew all the way over, borrowed a boat, and made a fool out of themselves. I believe I was in a portapotty at the moment, would have been great to see it live and record it. THANKS FOR SHARING!
