  • ARTs channel! :D

  • Please people! Wait to the end before you vote. Really, listen to 4:46. Ouch. Otherwise good. Well, you can't have everything...

  • Its a divine opera and deserves to be heard more often in the west--so weird and fantastic---RK was a genius at orchestration. This opera is a bit like Turandot with a rather ruthless beautiful woman!! The Queen, by the way, is opera's version of Mae West--so watch out!! She means trouble. She sings wonderfully--but the costume is not Oriental enough. Should be more slinky and dangerous as a metaphor of her character.

  • What the singers of today have to put up with. She not only has to contend with the very difficult music, but an unwieldy costume, platform shoes and too many steps. I think she does very well considering the obstacles.

  • WOW!

  • not bad, but poor legato and strained top notes.....

Go for the unmatched performance by Clara Kadinskaya.

  • what is the correct beats for this song?

  • Не зря наши в Японию ездили...

  • This is a gorgeous reading!

  • What is that top note at 4.48?

  • It is high D .

  • Very intense high notes! Sings on syllables

  • Nice aria, the character is a bitch! LOL

The sorcerer will come claiming for his award, the princess!

I like this opera but I prefer other Rimsky's opera. He was quite old when he composed this one, his very last opera.

    Myasko

  • perfect!! Brava!

  • MAGNIFIQUE !

  • I wondered how she could sing this difficult aria so well, while wearing those unbelievably high platform shoes, walking down stairs, simultaneously managing the engineering complexity of that gorgeous costume.

This was a beautiful production. Thanks for posting.

  • Awesome costume :) beautyful staging

  • Kinda looks like Turandot!

  • kinda looks like an alien, LOL

    (-;

  • I wodner if Diana Damaru or Natalie Dessay have done this role?

  • @sirmercutio99 i doubt (not that i would like to even imagine Dessay trying to sing anything like this) - this is just too difficult - much more so then in Puccini (not to mention other comp.), singers are meant to actually make the musical lines themselves (by singing the right words on the most exact notes) - plenty of my musician friends say "oh i just hate it" ... besides musical difficulties, this opera is too complicated in other ways - makes it 'infeasible' in nowadays terms - a shame

  • @branko1b Do you think Diana Damaru could do it? Too bad it's supposed to be beautiful and I love this aria.

  • @sirmercutio99 - i was not suggesting that she could, or could not - as much as i know, you may not like Damrau just as I don't like Dessay ...

i like this aria too, like R-K's music ; this is the first time i heard Trifonova, and i think i like her too - she seems to be an amazing singer (this is in 'my favourites') - there is no point (seems even inappropriate) to argue about other singers...

i apologise for my reply - i should know better and be able to resist urges to rumble on...

  • Actually I was refering to the Queen of Shemakha's costume. The other two singers look like a cross between Smurfs and Tartars!

  • That's one outragous costume! She looks like she has gold antlers qith gold chains hanging from it and her dress looks like a butterly shaped mumu. Her singing is excellent despite that.

  • lol - they probably "inter-use" not (to say 'recycle') sets and costumes

Turandot is written some years later though

  • love her voice...

  • Awesome!

Olga is a very good singer :]

I love this version of Le Coq d'Or.

    One of my favourite operas.
