@fuasshole666 Fun??Some years ago, 05, I tried to sink our 18 foot Reinell when I drove un-wittingly fast into some "torn-up' water..........the instability had water 18" deep going over the bow at speed.....not fun, spooked perhaps....& very wet. Another time I got some MAJOR air jumping a swell.......wound up knocking out cold a passenger who wasn't prepared for it.
This is how the new Miami Vice movie should have started...with a boat race. The referee would ask "where is the number 5 entry?" Then you see Crockett show up with Tubbs banging their heads to Steppenwolf. Then when the race starts, they swerve all over the place and cut off the other racers lol
@VisionarysDomain I tend to disagree. Did stepped hulls exist in the eighties? Frankly I don't know. The Fountain 42ft. boats are running 110+ MPH now, I doubt there were any conventional hulls doing that speed back then. And now we have 1000+HP engines commonly available, again, I think such powerplants were extremely rare then. See the instability of the outboard boat at 3:19 and 3:23...rare and unacceptable handling today.
They all seem like their going so very slow! How far we have come since the Eighties! I say put four ATK 600HP engines in that Cary 50........some Arneson Bravo surface drives......& maybe it will hit that 90 MPH goal that the designers were after.
So..... if it was 'just' the two of them toward the end of this "race" where pray-tell did the wake come from @7:58 ..... so our hero's boat could do a wake jump?
Michael Mann was on fire with his production abilities during the first season of Miami Vice. What a great piece of television. I don't think anything has come close to the magnitude this was back in the 80's.
damn that Cary50 is sweet. Buddy of mine has an old Cary38 with triple powerstrokes in it, namely because they said there was no way he could fit them in there.
can those cockpit archs be reversed ive seen numerous stingers with the arch turned the other direction me personaly i like the arch just the way it is on don johnsons boat and i think the cary 50 would look better with its arch turned the other direction
Except this was the ChrisCraft 390 from the earlier shows. They changed to a Wellcraft Scarab around 1/2 way through the series about the same time they changed crocket's car from the daytona replica to a real Testarossa
the quality of both the video and the audio is less than stellar. it could be a lot better. that's what happens when you make a copy of a copy of a copy..... quality goes down the toilet. make a copy directly from the DVD, not from a VHS recording from off the TV.
HAHAHA THIS WAS SO COOL BACK IN 1985 BUT LOOKS SO CHEEZZY NOW HAHA...THOSE ARENT EVEN REAL RACE BOATS HAHHA

Not really in terms of propulsion and hull design. I only see advancements in electronics -big deal!

yah, all 2.5s sound like a pair of v8s. Theres another ep where they have a ski boat with the same thing, outboard and v8 sound

yep, great race. Fast boats, slow boats, big and small all in the same class.
As if they could hear the other boat crashing the waves at 3:30 (with echo no less).
