  • The Introducer about crapped his pants at the start and pissed them at the end,Grandpa knocked that one out of the cornfield!

  • Hes my grandmas cousin. Grown up listening to him and Dickens, Monroe and the greats. One of the best songs ever.

  • "No description available" -- Ain't that the truth! There's no description available for Grandpa! :-)

  • One of the best songs ever.

  • Nobody did it like Grampa Jones.

  • Go grandpa Jones!

  • my 2 favorites.. grandpa jones and moonshine

  • Keep drinking mountain dew and you'll look like that too!

  • I missed him at the West End Fair in NE PA many years ago. I'm still kicking myself. He was one of a kind.

  • Talkin about moonshine you fools

  • So THIS is where les claypool got his moves!

  • :}

  • my gpa was singing this song when he was drunk lol

  • @mennor472 its hard to believe, but this IS about the soda

  • @JacobVanBreemen That would make absolutely no sense. It is about moonshining and how people purchased it.

  • @xxgoddlyxx I think he was fucking around.

  • @JacobVanBreemen NO IT'S NOT DUMMY!!!!

  • Man love to have that old fender amp sitting back there.

  • i wish that he was my grandpa. that would be awesome.

  • There will never be another "Grandpa". This man is a true American Icon. Such an important part of our American Musical Heritage.

  • If you sit home waiting your turn you deserve to have your gun taken from your cold dead hands.

The Founders didn’t wait for the Brits to knock down their doors. They gathered at the green and stood up like men and they killed government employees all the way back to Boston.

What will you do when it’s time to hunt NWO hacks, republicrats and commies(“Liberals” and ‘progressives’)?

  • @BUZOSKARSON

    EXCEPT SOME AAers MAYBE......

  • My Third Grandpa.

  • Those boots he has on are over 100 years old and have been resoled several times. Grandpa Jones reckoned they were 50 years old when he started as Grandpa at age 22.

  • yall are all stupid grandpa jones is great

  • nice work on that skin box..

  • This guy is les Claypool 50 years ago

  • he rocks so sad he had to go/ die

  • YES SIR YES SIR PICK THAT BANJER!

  • It's great to see an old clip of Grandpa Jones before his Hee Haw days when he was older and noticeably less animated. Also funny to see him with that fake mustache of his!

  • actually there is an amp behind him and its mic'ed, What your hearing is the sound engineers mix for T.V. Still, its damn good stuff!

  • @MrSoundman67 The amp is for the band. All Grandpa Jones has is a mic in front of him for the vocal.

  • @Beatleboy1964 Im a sound engineer. The amp is not for the band, they have monitors for that. Once again, your hearing the mix for t.v. the band and granpa are listening to a playback and playing along to that. Please dont argue with me,I have several years experience in the music business and know how it works.

  • @MrSoundman67 Hmmm...I've been a musician for 47 years and I think I know what an amp looks like. It also looks like there is a mic mounted in front of it. I think you are confusing a guitar amp with a foldback speaker. Two different things. I'm not arguing. I didn't realize you were there and knew all about their setup.

  • @Beatleboy1964 hmmm,,picked up an instrument when you where 3 eh? And yes,I have been there,The Grand "ol Opery.

  • @MrSoundman67 Actually, I was 10 and it's spelled "Grand Ole Opry". I'm not saying you don't know what you're talking about. I'm just saying don't assume other people don't know.

  • no he is talking about moonshine you dododo SuperOldandSlow

  • hahaha usa is crazy

  • Comment removed

  • In all reality, there are many groups still playing acoustic instruments. I'm one of them. I have a bluegrass band called The Mountain Laurel Acoustic Band, out of Yorktown Indiana. So it still exists, just getting harder and harder to find!

  • thad be some moonshine

  • It's funny at the end when Grandpa get a burst of energy and starts kickin' them knees up and down. These old Grand ol Opry clips are priceless.

  • OMG

    that was awesome

    haven't seen that in years

  • Shine, shine, shine!!!

  • Yea!!! Are the strings on the circular part of the banjo blacked out?

  • Maybe this song was the inspiration for the soda...?

  • If you honestly thought this is about the soda... y'all are fucking stupid!

  • @mennor472 Really!!! It's not that deep dude!!!

  • @mennor472 HEY I'M OFFENDED YOU BASTARD! lol I NEED MORE MOUNTAIN DEW NOW! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH I THOUGHT I WOULD FIND SOME HERE AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

  • Mountain Dew is Irish Poitín, or "Tater" Whiskey. No corn used to make it...

  • @RoyJDew

Not so. My friends in eastern Kentucky say the term applies to any not-so-legal licker, corn or otherwise.

  • Just went to a Bluegrass Festival here in "Bama and I'll tell ya what...I play metal but DAMN! It takes TALENT to play Bluegrass!

  • mooooooooooooooooon shine yeeeeeeeeeeeha

  • MOONSHINE.....YEAH!

  • Jaretbrown sent me here

  • Jaretbrown sent me here

  • Grandpa Jones was only 47 when this video was made, not very old at all. But that's nothing: The truth is, he had been doing this same "old-guy" schtick since he was 22 years old!!

  • Makes me laugh

  • If this doesn't make you smile, I sure hope I don't ever have as bad a day as you are having.

    Thank you for posting this.

  • his motions are hilarious. lol.

  • The way entertainment ought to be done...a man and and instrument making us sing along and laugh!

  • if hes not talking about the mountain dew soda what is he saying to fill up your cup with?

  • @WhiteB0yCrazy

White Lightning, mah boy! Also known as moonshine, corn licker, etc.

  • Actually Steve Martin the comedian/actor is quite a good banjo player. He did a spot on Letterman that was both entertaining and funny.

  • Now this is real live music !!!!!! Not that Justin Bieber and friends lip sync the youngsters listen to (okey, i m 38). And this is real music, too... All the best from Germany !!!!! Bluegrass rocks !!!!!!!!!

  • @markusalcudia

You've got some pretty good bluegrassers right there in Germany, one of whom is arguably the best banjo picker on the east side of the Atlatic Ocean.

  • @markusalcudia well aren't we superior! Don't get me wrong, this is my kind of music but at least I have the vision to know that JB and the rest just aren't meant for me and I don't have to like them. There's room for all kinds of music in this world. That's what make is great!

  • Every time I go to Kentucky to visit my sisters my brother-in-law Jimmy always sets me with some good ole Kentucky moonshine. I love the stuff. I am retiring and moving there next month. I'll be listening to Grandpa a lot. LOL

  • oh shit did u see that palm mute

  • Grandpa Jones in his more spry days.

  • Another One

  • in the Country Music Hall of Fame, they report that the boots that Grandpa wears are actually from the Civil War...wow....anyone else ever heard that?

  • @MarkEaster The boots Louis "Grandpa" Jones wore were given to him by Bradley Kinkaid, a fellow Kentuckian that he worked with at WBZ in Boston. He was also the man who gave Louis the moniker, "Grandpa" because he really sounded older than his twenty-two years and was extremely grumpy in the mornings after playing late shows the night before. Grandpa never eluded to knowing where Bradley got the boots so it is entirely possible they were from the civil war era.

  • good old moonshine, good old white lightning, good old firewater, good old corn liquor, good old mountain dew!!!!!!!!

  • OMG What an American original he was.....Pure joy watching him perform...Best Claw Hammer banjo player ever. We will never see the likes of him again on this earth.

  • Three dislikes !?!

Why did you three people even bother to watch and listen.

This stuff is great. Pure reality; no auto-tone here.

    To the others ... enjoy

  • Hey, lookie here, folks. The old codger makes fine music and there ain't a big pile of amps and cables running all over the place. Only thing I saw was 100 percent genuine musical talent and showmanship. Too bad present-day artists don't know anything about that stuff.

BTW, that "mountain dew" he's singin' about ain't stuff that comes in a soda can.

  • @SuperOldandSlow Too bad he couldn't of taken a good ol' SWIG right then and there.!

  • Comment removed

  • @SuperOldandSlow Moonshine by gawd

  • @SuperOldandSlow mumford and sons - bookshop sessions. Too bad you don't listen to much of todays music.

  • @SuperOldandSlow Nope, it sure ain't lol

  • @SuperOldandSlow

Guess you didn't see the amplifier right behind him? It was good music, but there certainly were electric guitars in the accompaniment.

  • @Busia1949

I didn't see any amp hooked up to Grandpa's banjo.

  • @BillyRosinet You be right about that for sure. I can't say that I ever saw a banjo with an amp though they do play up to a microphone and you can be sure there was one right over Granpa's head or not too far in front of him. Good music either way.

  • @Busia1949

The mikes and such would have been necessary because this was broadcast TV. In today's bluegrass performances, miking is necessary to reach the entire audience, but the music is still being played on acoustic instruments.

My point is that Grandpa and the boys didn't need electronics to make good music.

  • @BillyRosinet

I totally agree with your perspective, and enjoy the acoustic music very much. Guess you could have figured that since I watched this video in the first place... Glad to interact with you my friend.

  • the best song ever!

  • Ahhh, the good old days when one didn't need a rack full of electronics to make music and be entertaining.

  • @BillyRosinet You're right, pure 100% talent was all they depended upon- That's all there was, and that's all they needed.

  • Get it, Grandpa!!!

  • This IS AMERICA!

  • I'm 35 and love it! If we could start a Banjo revival the world would be a better place. Respect to Billy Conolly for keeping it going. I'm sure there are other modern artists worth a mention too. Anyone got any suggestions? I'm thinking of buying a Banjo and learning.

  • If this is mountain dew I want te move there

  • Pete Townshend derived his guitar windmilling from Grandpa!

  • What a great man!

  • I've always loved Grandpa Jones. He was from the same town as my grandmother and he could frail a banjo with the best of them. RIP Grandpa. :)

  • Ha, this dude is great

  • i love the soda

  • @MrKite1996 Put some mountain dew in your Mountain Dew, and you will like it better.

  • @JiveDadson code red or reguler

  • I wish he was my grandpa. I love his music.

  • My god. I was drinking Mountain Dew when I found this.

  • I was raised on bluegrass, and Grandpa Jones is my great grandpa's nephew, so his music has always been my favorite, especially this song, amazing man right there

  • Was he always known as grandpa jones or did he become his own grandpa?

  • @Insectionx When he was a young entertainer, he was once asked to play an old man. He was so popular as a Grandpa that he just kept doing it for the rest of his life.

  • This is some funny shit *tears in my eyes*

  • Grandpa kicks some serious ass.

  • incase you guys were wondering this song is about illegal liquor lol

  • To whomever that put this video up "Thank You" My dads 76 and is going to love this.

  • Follow Highway 41 outside of Nashville turning onto Old Springfield Pike. Grandpa Jones is buried in the Luton Cemetery at the end of the road. His tombstone, which I've visited, says "The only things you take with you are the things you give away." Or something to that effect.
