Ah, thanks so much for posting this! Love - love - love this monologue, and I am kind of tired of skipping through a slow-loading episode to find it ;)
Don't suppose this big scary universe the Doctor's talking about also features people make of smoke and cities made of song? (HUGE props to the original Who fans who get that)
"You're not from Social Services, are you?" Gets me everytime. Oh, but how I got lost in the crimson stars and Murray Gold's genius in the background. :D
All this time when he says "they're old eyes", i though he said "they're all lies". I mean i still got the message, but still, that makes it a whole lot clearer
@danehb89 Yeah, but Buddha's long speeches are called 'dialogs,' and he doesn't have ANY OTHERS' WORDS interspersing His! - Anyway, the short reply at the end are the best lines of the episode---a question that EVERYBODY should ask of people telling them great/terrible things!
No it doesn't. A monologue doesn't consider the amount of words another person says this person could react by action. Even if the other person wouldn't say something it'll still be a dialog since it's addressed to another person.
In a monologue the character actually talks to himself. He reflects about things and feelings. It's like thinking loud actually.
But the crucial point of a monologue is: It's not addressed to anyone.
@balloooonatic a monologue can be defined as a prolonged talk or discourse by a single speaker, especially one dominating or monopolizing a conversation. so even if they're conversing, bc the doctor is speaking for the majority of it, it counts as a monologue
@kingofthescals I've been watching all of classic who... and Matt is truly the best compilation of all previous Doctors that any doctor has been. He has bits of everyone. He's truly my favorite Doctor. Tennant will always be *my* Doctor... but Matt, Tom Baker, and Tennant are my top three--in that order. And to think... I rebelled against him so much when he was first announced.

Night Terrors was an average episode, but as always I would happily watch it again and again simply for Matt's performance =)

@tourdeforce17 I wasn't too enamoured with most of the season to be honest, but Matt certainly is entertaining.

From :15 on, the scene reminds reminds me of the Seventh Doctor's '"farewell' speech in the Classic Series finale, 'Survival.'

@balloooonatic The other guy says like 2 words interspersing the Doctor's big spiel, I think it qualifies as a monologue.

Whereas here it's addressed to another person.
(No harm)

@NailimixamSamaro You're thinking of soliloquy, a monologue is just a long speech by one character, it can be to other characters.

@balloooonatic He doesn't respond to what the other guy is saying so it counts as a monologue. :)
