You made this? Pretty bloody awesome mate. Can't believe I haven't heard of it until now.
The only criticism piece I have is that he should've emphasized the "you" in "We make it our business to know. Knowledge is power. That is all YOU need to know." for a good snark effect.
@MelficeCyrum if you have downloaded the game, you can open up the base .UQM file in a zip program (like winrar) and go into the directory base/comm/lurg, the lurg.ogg file will be there.
I haven't played any Star Control games, but from what I watched about the Ur-Quan on YouTube, these Lurg guys are either stupid or insane to bad-mouth the Ur-Quan. I can imagine how a "conversation" between the two would start:
I doubt that this Lurg race could take on the Sa-matra and a couple thousand dreadnoughts .. Well I havent played this mod but they are obviously an arrogant race =]
lol I wonder if he'll really put the Galactic Empire in the story. lol
And the only way the Lurg could defeat the Urquan is if they had around an infinite number of ships. If it hadn't been for Zelnick, the Sa-Matra would have taken care of the Lurg. If not Sa-Matra, then the Kohr-Ah.
Kohr-Ah enter from the west, Kzer-Za from the east (of the original star-map). Pkunk sphere of influence didn't overlap with the conflicts in SC1 and the ZFP are harmless. KZ never reach Druuge, who used the Burvixese as bait for KA.
Lurg live beyond the Pkunk, who had no contact with the Kzer-Za during the war. Boisterously claiming that the Kzer-Za were afraid of them is, as far as canon is concerned, a totally empty threat.
Where does this come from? I've played SC2 a couple of times, and never met this species. Also, I've studied the map again, there is no Naos constipation. I take it this is a fan version. Where can I download it?
Saying that the Ur-Quan would ignore another species because they were more powerful seems like a pretty blatant violation of canon.
Both Ur-Quan species acknowledge that their doctrines are paradoxical in that they seek to assure their freedom and survival by enslaving/destroying other races. Character limit on comments prevents me, but philosophically, there's no way either Ur-Quan wouldn't attempt to fight them even if they thought themselves weaker.
@requerent Character limits are why you should post this on the star-control forums instead :) I did the art, animation, and most of the dialog so maybe I can provide the best non-answer answer. Perhaps the Ur-Quan or the Lurg are lying? Perhaps the Ur-Quan didn't really know about the Lurg? Perhaps they did enslave the Lurg somehow? Perhaps there's more to the story than you realize? You'll just have to find out in the full game.
The Ur-Quan systematically traversed the entire galaxy, meeting where they did because everything else had been destroyed or enslaved (with the exception of IDF races). Ur-Quan also don't lie.
The only thing that would make sense is if the Kzer-Za ran into the Lurg after the second Doctrinal Conflict began, but left (could appear as a retreat) to fight the Kohr-Ah. That in itself is full of holes though.
That's why I said it 'seems' like a blatant violation. I'm only pointing out the most obvious things. No matter what logical path you take it down, their behavior, claims and knowledge are inconsistent.
@requerent I believe Krer-Za planned to subdue Alliance of Free Stars first and possibly gain some new battle thralls before going after Luurg, but then came the Kohr-Ar and The Captain...
@requerent You're making a mistake in thinking that just because these aliens made this claim concerning the Ur-Quan that it must be true. It's more likely that they're just posturing.
@requerent Could it be possible that the Kzer-Za just decided to attack them later when they have taken care of everyone else in the area, but got distracted by the arrival of the Kohr-Ah?
I love how this race look is from the original Star Control 2 cover, and how their name is from the copy protection thing for Star Control 1.
Makes me wonder if we'll see Professor Zorg's race to, or the Tarnoon for that matter. When this project develops. Since they seem to be very versed on obscure SC stuff.
They have a Cthulu-like face.

Also, is there any way to get the song you used for the Lurg? I wouldn't mind having the music.

@TheMisterCat Thanks! Man, the Lurg theme sounds -really- cool. Was it custom-made? It sounds JUST like something you might hear in UQM.

@MelficeCyrum I wrote it based on a description of the lurg race and after seeing their comms graphics

I assume there's a reason why the Lurg were "avoided" by the Ur-Quan that's in the mod. I hope it gets explained.

Just once in these interactions i want to see the captain referring to the higher power (government) and the alien captain backing off

Such a great game and makes me not regret paying a fortune for the 3d0.
New lurgs and music are very professionally done, even if they do look like angry turds.

isn't this the creature on the cover of star control 2? but why wasn't it in the actual canon game?
