When at my office (a gas station checkout counter)

I always go for the tried and true method of tapping the barrel of my colt 45 on the counter and saying "Comprende"

11 times out of 10 the bad customers leave-along with other customers who may have thought about mouthing off.

Sorry.. but when it comes down to physical abuse.. meaning either menacing posture, or actual contact, this video is worthless. Having been on the receiving end of such customer abuse a number of times, I'll tell you that your logical rational mind, just disappears. Do not turn your back in such a situation, it's an invitation to be hit. Keep your hands low as much as you can, so that you can raise them up to counter any blows. Use your legs to kick if that option presents itself, make noise

The problem here is no one is asking why the customer got so upset. This is of no value to anyone.

I just let them rant. Then when they finish I just say, "I'm sorry you feel that way. Is there anything I can do for you?" Then when the cust goes off again & I just tune out as he/she rants. Then whan there is a break in the rant I again say, " I'm sorry that you feel that way, is there anything I can do for you? This goes on until they either hang up, or ask to talk to my supervisor. I then call the 'lead line' The 'lead' usually just sys, "Bring 'em on"

I can't speak for other people, but my personal experience in dealing with customers has always been that if you give them what they want and eliminate what they don't want as best you can, they won't bother you for the most part.

In which case, you must only encounter Stepford customers. In my experience, the opposite is true when dealing with certain types of customer; some will take all you can give them and demand more, others will shriek abuse and use threats. Those are not the norm tho.
