It would be tricky, but u could have a flat surface become stairs going up if pistons on one side pushed a few more blocks onto the ground pistons' blocks, with one more block per step to make the steps. Like four pistons pushing 4 blocks where the foot is near, but only one piston with 1 block at the 1 at step

You can make multi-sticky piston stairs, you just need to lower the pistons in reverse order when the stairs is falling back down.

I used the Wireless Redstone mod and the recreated the 4 piston elivatier you have... First of all, how did you get the stone on the pistons at the bottom to stay? when I used Sticky pistons it only pushed me up 15-20 blocks... the wireless redstone mod made it REALLY easy to make... I was closs to doing it without that mod but I said fuck it cus it was confusing the hell out of me...

For the stairs to appear as you described, you can place the pistons horizontally so blocks are pushed from the wall to create the stairs... if that makes sense?

I made the door that you used for the TNT tester, but iron blocks won't stick to the sticky pistons and even break when i try to active the pistons? I had to use stone slabs instead to get it to look good :(

It's not as cool but when you did the elevator part that launches you up if cobwebs are also implemented in 1.7 then instead of getting it to time right you could launch yourself into cobwebs giving you that extra time to maybe place a floor below you but of course then you'd have to lose the floor or break it but it is MUCH simpler and easier just not as cool
