@WhereIsRealHipHop hello, i don't know if the device has an actual name or what the technique is called, but it sounds like when trumpet (and i think trombone players do it too) players take like a toilet plunger head and hold it in front of the opening of the horn. they cover and uncover it in varying amounts to change the tone. kind of like a wah pedal used with a guitar. if you look through some old big band videos you might see it done.

Always loved this track, I rate Jean in the Premier League of Soul singers, alomg with Teena Marie, Shirley Jones and others.
