  • I would run out and act like i`m on Mount Everest.

  • Oh man, we're expecting this tomorrow!

  • that was cooooooooooooooooooooooooool

  • So cool! Beautiful storm.

  • thats happening right now in northeast ohio

  • so bizzarre

  • the "technical" name for the phenomenon is "thundersnow" :)

  • I've only experienced it 3 times my whole life. It is quite odd!

  • We had one of these this past winter. I had now idea what the hell was happening XD

  • thunder and snow at the same time :-D amazing

  • looks nice, i cant wait for the winter

  • god i have never seen so much snow. i am glad that i didn't move to poughkeepsie for school this year. I'm just soaking up rays in beautiful santa clara, california :D

  • haha suckers!!! you got a taste of Canada eh!!!

  • Sounds like the thundersleet Vermont has on February 5, 2011.

But, the temp rose to 33 F. That was in Springfield, Vermont.

Sounds like sleet. So reminds me of the winter T-storm.

  • Yep I just experienced my first thundersnow event, it was awesome the thunder was pretty loud too indicating the lightning struck nearby for snow acts as a sound barrier.

  • lol we hav a thundersno storm rite now:)

  • Just had one of these last night in nh. instead of a downpour i was rally heavy sleetrain snowish stuff.

  • Since everybody is telling where we live and how much snow we got ... I live in Texas and all we got was sleet and it froze over the roads which means about 3 days off from school...(: (February 1st)

  • i wish where i live we could get that! in NC the largest amount of snow we probably have gotten is around 10 inches and that makes school called off for a week.

  • greetings from Albany, NY. This makes what we got from this storm nothing.

  • @hbk621 We got hit hard here in Windsor/Detroit too.

  • @KodyCena It's more than even what you say. Certain amount of snow also in short time frame it is occuring as well. A meterologist here in New England said that thunder and lightening is criteria for a blizzard. So maybe he mis spoke.

  • @ciao614 Sure.... Thunder can be part of a blizzard. But a storm does not require thunder to be classified as a blizzard. You can have a blizzard without thunder.

  • its really snowing here too

  • It's freezing in chicago

  • i'ts thundersnowing here in chicago

  • wow im from oregon and never thought thunder and snow would ever happen and it does i guess wow, i like thunder and lightning but in winter it would be wicked in December 2010 we had a tornado that hit Aumsville and we had the most wicked of clouds no tornado where i live but i was looking for it!

  • it happened last night at perry hall and the power flashed two times for 10 seconds and the power went out until about nine pm its weird how severe the lightning was when i saw it.

  • I live in philly happened today

  • @LegitOps Holy crap dude same wasnt it epic!? lol ur probably thinking im a nerd getting excited over weather xD

  • just happened today in ny but didnt even look out the window lmao

  • Badass.

  • i am 19 years old and live in the south eastern part of PA and i have never seen one and from what i heard i dont ever want to either because of the wind and really heavy snow that can bring down trees and power lines... but still i would like to see atleast one cause of the rarity. and were are supposed to have a really bad one tonight.

  • You do not want this kind of storm. I had to drive from Yarmouthport to Brewster in it. There was something like a 25 degree drop in temperature in a very short time, there were water spouts, and thousands of trees downed. The Cape got dive-bombed with winds clocked at 101 mph at one spot in Dennis. It was a weird phenomenon. We took our lives in our hands driving home, but thankfully throughout the storm nobody was killed. I will never forget it!

  • all a thunder snow is a thunder and lightening with snow. nothing fantastic.

  • @louiseo0905 YEA...not so true as these storms are very strong...am in one now ...life pretty much stops as these storms can easily kill u.i cant see 2 feet in front of my face.nothing fantastic..

  • @jmil920 sorry the storms that i seen were fears but the thunder seemed not to bother me. we are suppose to get that today. yikes

  • I'm 14 and I live in Maine and I have yet to live through something like this, at least to my memory I haven't. Just the other night in Connecticut there was some thunder snow.. but none in Maine. ):

  • Awesome video! Love Thunder Snow!

  • this is happening in Alabama right now!! :)

  • holy hell in VA this is happening now! i just looked up snow and thunder to see how this could happen.

  • Always get it in Hamilton, at the edge of Lake Ontario.

  • {possible events after ending}

    (phone rings)

DUDEEE I JUS HEARD THUNDER!! WTFF IS UP WIT THAT!??

  • reminds me of a root beer float

  • Incredible.

  • NO SCHOOL!!!!!!!!!! YAY!

  • i guess 7 people havent seen snow

  • It's thundersnowing right now in Spring Valley, MN.

  • we had a weather like this today

i have witnessed my first ever thundersnow

and im not so young xD

  • @TheDerpe I was young when I had my first thudersnow,I was playing out side in the snow, next thing I hear "CRASH!" A huge bolt of thuder, I was like "WHA?!!?!"

  • Good old Brookline MA where Mr. Tom Brady is moving to soon with his lovely wife Gazelle.

  • Just had one in Dublin too

  • @Geggie79 Is there snow already in Ireland? Some day I will get there and investigate my lineage:)

  • We just had one here in Scotland :)

  • @blugal102 same but in the north east england

  • @blugal102 yes we did DUNDEE :D wooohoo

  • @Hashkid420 Yeah, Dundee! :D It was crazy. At least schools are off, which is great!! it's nearly 12cm in my area.

  • @blugal102 i know lmao , i know hopefully the schools are off the rest of the week its really deep in my end to :D

  • We had a record of 18" of snow in a 24 hour period in Augusta, GA Feb. 9-10, 1973.

During this snowfall, we had lightning and thunder! I now live in the Northeast and have YET to see that much snow in a 24 hour period, with thunder!!! lol

  • @nodlon20 that's awesome

  • at the end there...was that A.S.A.P. by T.I.?

  • I remember this Storm. In Waltham we got the same conditions.

  • Freaky!

  • had this in bc vancouver in 2006 during new years

  • rolig upplevelse i början av oktober ! : )))

    tack för filmen !!!

  • Comment removed

  • Here in Italy we have often thunders during snowfalls =) but we never have real blizzards like this! Amazing!

  • I experienced a thunder-snow storm once as a child...it was so AWESOME!! Hope to see another again someday!

  • OMG I had that thundersnow in Essex where I live during christmas 2005.

  • That is some heavy ass snow.

  • Oh hahah I remember that we had like 6 inches in jersey but also a lot of thunder and lightning and some calmer winds

  • 0:04-0:08 HAHA that would be me

  • @EnglishRose719 LOL me too!!

  • That is intersestin. Never had anything like that in Canada before. =S

  • i dont get scared when theres lightning in thunder with snow. but in the rain i have to day, it kinda freaks me out.

  • I was in Walpole, MA for this storm, right near Gillette Statdium. There was around 15" there and at least 3 hours of blizzard criteria. Also, pretty remarkable thunder and lightning.

However the worst weather was over Cape Cod. Winds gusts between 80-100mph and I believe gusted over 100mph.! Plus the coastal erosion.

  • Lightning can hit objects and people during snowstorms. A church in Pensalvania was hit by lightning during a snowstorm sometimes in the 80s and caught on fire. On a different occasion a man was hit by lightning when he was walking outside during a snowstorm.

I got my info from the weather guide calanders the weather channel puts out. Most lightning in snow storms is cloud to cloud but occasionally you also get cloud to ground lightning strikes.

  • Not so unusual, we get these just about every year.

  • This is happening in an hour and im alone. Im 12

  • right now theres another storm/blizzard as iam typing this this is third one for the season

  • its snowing here right now and its like big pieces of snow!!

  • This is happening at my house right now, it was the weirdest thing!

  • Awesome

  • It's Bush's fault!

  • @rkoliver1 ROFLMAO

  • Thanks for posting!

For a storm to be classified as a blizzard it must meet certain criteria. Thunder is one of them:) Gotta love it! I live not far from where this was..i don't remember this storm but when you have as many as we do in New England they are hard to keep track of:)

  • Your welcome. However thunder is not a criteria for a blizzard.

The National Weather Service defines a blizzard as large amounts of falling OR blowing snow with winds in excess of 35 mph and visibilities of less than 1/4 of a mile for an extended period of time (greater than 3 hours).

  • Sorry but I had heard years and years ago that thunder & lightening was a critieria for a true blizzard. Maybe they have changed that criteria since it's such a rare occurance?

  • @ciao614 fail!

  • @ciao614 Ironically I bet thats why they cal it New England, as the weather is the same as the old one.

  • @dodgerdannyboy Ironically it isn't but I liked your attempted conclusion:) You do know why it's really called New England right?..and you're just messing with me right?.. :)

  • @ciao614 Yes of course I know, New England was fore named by pilgrims who settled in north America from England in 1620 the name New England was sanctioned on November 3 the same year. I can trace my family back to the 1500s from Ireland with some moving to Massachusetts and still living in the Boston area today, In fact like most things American you can generally find a British or Irish root. But you knew that right ;-)

  • @dodgerdannyboy yes i did:) Have you ever visited America or Massachusetts for that matter? My paternal side hails from Cork and settled in Boston. Once I get over my fear of flying I hope to go to Ireland and England:)

  • @ciao614 No, not yet I had planned on it a few years back but for obvious reasons decided not to fly at that time. One day maybe.

  • @dodgerdannyboy Well when you do... the Summer & the Autumn are the best times to come to Massachusetts.:)

  • Nasty

  • cool i didnt know we can get thundersnowstorm jsut out of interest can lightning still strike then

  • It's rare that we got Thundersnow here in Northern Germany, it only happens every few years.

Last time we had a snow thunderstorm was Easter 2008, it snowed about 8 cm (3 inches) and the temperature was around -1°C.

  • At 0:40 that was obviously thunder...

  • i loke so much that weather condition!

  • We had one of those!! Our school still made us go. They sent everyone home after they got there though.

  • LOL it's like a winter themed thunderstorm! XD

  • Al Gore should see this video. LOL..

  • @F1Fanatiko Meaning there is no global warming? Tell that to the polar bears who usually live on ice above the Arctic Circle and now have to tread water.

  • @g1b2j3j4s5 Global warming was a term made up to gain wealth. There is no such thing as Global warming in the sense they want to push on us. MIT professor said the Sun is getting hotter and has nothing to do with what they are telling us...(i.e. pollutents, gases, etc) Google it my friend:)

  • That's what going on here in Tulsa, OK. Pretty cool though.

  • Nice!!!

  • I heard there was some real nasty thunder with snow on 12/9/05....up near the Boston area.....here in southern RI...we had heavy snow squalls but not much thunder activities.... last time I had thunder with snow was on 4/9/96.

  • 36+ in West Virginia

  • inch an a half upstate ny while the city got pounded!

  • 22 inches in marbol md

  • yea here in boston we are gettin a major snowstorm that might become blizzard like conditions i wont b suprised if we see thundersnow just like 1 day in dec 2005 during a storm

  • nice

it just happend in scotland like 5 minz ago

its still snowin but no lightning

  • Awesome. It's snowing here in London, UK right now but it's only about and inch and the country has ground to a halt. Pathetic!

  • I live in Chatham, Kent, UK and we had Thunder Snow last night with lightning as well. Very weird. According to the news, Thunder Snow is extremely rare so I was lucky to see it!

  • its happening right now here in springfield MA! ZOMBIES ARE COMING!

  • why did you say zombies are coming please answer

  • I WANT THIS KIND OF STORM!!!!!!!!

its one of the few storm types I wish to experience before I die

  • LMAOOO!!!:D i wish tooo :'(

  • @MurakumoElite you won't be saying that when you're in it.

  • @cyphi1 but I will, I'll even get a lounge chair and bask in the awesomeness! XD

  • @MurakumoElite yeah it is pretty awesome :)

  • @MurakumoElite Me too!!

  • Actually there is

  • Ahh! I rember this! I was at a freinds house drinking hot coco cause we had the day off, and it started thundering I was like ummm? thats odd. haha I sooo rember this!

  • The same thing happened when i was in New York city. I couldnt believe it was possible. The weather in the states in so extreme compared with the uk

  • I live over in Waltham Massachusetts and I remember this storm well.

  • This Sounds Hilarious to people in the North, but Snow is Amazing to people who have never seen it in Person or been in it in real life.

  • Lol Ive never seen Snow in my life. Well Ive seen it Flury before up In Wisconsin December 2005. I lived in Florida all my life Deep North Florida to be infact on the Border, Its Just cold, and Windy in the Winter, and Bone Dry. We will get Rainstorms before we get cold fronts. Ive only seen a Flury, and 4 inches of snow on the Ground.

  • lol yeah one time i was walking around with my friends and it was snowing fucking hard, and we never expected to see lightning light everything up around us.. scared the shit out of us because it was close and loud.

  • haha.. a snow storm happened where i live... my and my sister was out side playing xD. we didn't even care how cold it was.. lol it was funny. school was closed. everyone was home.. but me and my sis was outside play xD .. lolz

  • it's just a plane not a thunder

  • This is a flurry where i live in Ottawa, Canada.

(Well in the winter at least)

  • stop being over dramatic. ottawa does average a lot of snow, but this is far from being like a flurry.

  • Maybe where you live...

  • ya and where you live too.

  • just flurries? let me smack you in your head a little

  • This is coming from the person for the USA, Canada is much differnet in the USA espicially in winter time.

  • New England has similar conditions in the winter to Ottawa, especially Northern New England and I can tell you that even in Ottawa this not a "flurry"

  • 2 season ago it was pretty intense, everyday it was snowing like this.

  • I live in Buffalo, some parts of Canada are south from it.

  • Comment removed

  • This was one of the All-Time Greatest snowstorms in Southern NE. 12/9/05 will not be forgotten.

  • in buffalo ny we get some good snow storms with thunder snow. we sometimes get a coupple of feet of snow here.

  • Snow all time here never thunder in snow. wah wah wah ='(

  • HEY! Do not say that!

  • it never snows in my country !! :-(

  • what country u from

  • Israel ... small vilage called Arraba :)

  • Cool footage.... I'm trying to think of where I was during this storm...

  • i live in colorado and lightning just hit near my house...but its snowing?

  • I remember this blizzard. I was 7. My sister was really scared. Just because of the thunder.

  • had thunder and lightening in nc march 1, 09. it was as bad as any storm in the summer. i'd heard a rumble or two or thunder during snow but never anything like what went on this night.

then there was 12 inches of snow within about 3 hours. wild stuff

  • Kinda scary, for some reason

  • dang, OUR thundersnow wasn't as cool as yours!

  • i checked the weather last night when it wsas snowing and it said thunder snow. and i heard no thunder

  • I love New England, our weather isn't even in the bible.

  • 2005... that was the last blizzard in worcester... pisses me off... i want more snow... i want to shovel for money

  • My hometown!

    So pretty in the winter!

  • ooh lovely

  • Ehm, I don't heard the thunder hahaXD

  • Listen from 0:29 to the end. You should hear some rumbling. That's the thunder.

  • Thundersnow my dear friends. It happens when there is enough uplift in the atmosphere during a snowstorm.

  • What in the hell is that dumbass doing????

  • ♫ hes trying to re-discover electricity! LOL ♫

  • Wow! Looks like blowing freezing rain AND blowing snow! An snow/ice storm!

  • how can there be thunder??

  • If there's clouds, it's possible anytime.

  • thundersnow is in wikkipedia.... its rare, but is becoming more frequent in the midewest. we're suposed to get some tonight in chicago.

  • yeah, i heard we might get some tomorow here in milwaukee. i better not miss something that could be once in a life time opportunity cuz of school not being canceled. o well, lets hope we have no school tomorow.

  • haha, that's exactly why im researching it right now. i had never heard the term thundersnow before, and since they keep saying we're going to get it, why not look it up? ;]

  • Man oh man that December 9th 2005 storm was insane. 105 mph winds on Block Island, 80 on my home island of Nantucket.

  • The moron is just standing there!

  • Dam your Lucky,in Canada they still send you too skill in Minus-30..

  • I'm from Michigan. Thundersnow was so cool when it (rarely) happened. Thnx for posing this. I've actually gotten into arguments from people saying 'No it doesn't' (thunder when it snows).
