  • Man, you MUST read my comment. i'll keep mocking you until you reply me. I'm an Trekkie/Treker alien, because, i'm 17, i love futuristic Sci-fi, i'm the scientific type of student, and i just think Star Trek is the best series of all time and all time to come. I still can't like the push-in buttons and the necessity of reaching a wall and then pressing something to be able to speak to someone not near you! THAT IS RIDICULOUS! i'm so sorry, but i just hate the outdated concepts.

  • @LauxRO I never made any claims that it was hard sci-fi, or even remotely close. I enjoy it for the characters and wild imagination, in particular the original series. Who cares if some of the science is outdated? The franchise has been going in one form or another since the 60's. OF COURSE what was perfectly acceptable theory THEN isn't necessarily going to hold water NOW, 40+ years later. More recent Trek stories use more recent theories. But as I said, I don't watch it for the science.

  • @Zaranyzerak oh, so you actually reply your comments oftenly! you earned my respect as youtuber. if the purpose of your liking-or-not Star Trek is different than mine, it is perfectly acceptable and we shall not argue about it. but you gotta agree with me, that the push-in click-sounding buttons are quite horrible.

  • @LauxRO Hehehe...yes, I'm not some holier-than-thou YouTuber who only wants comments to boost his numbers, I actually like *gasp!* INTERACTING with my viewers! Amazing, I know. As for the push buttons...meh, it doesn't bother me. Just part of the old school retro charm of the old ones to me.

  • I agree with you. The episodes in the season boxsets should be arranged in production order. That's how Paramount did it when they released the first four Star Trek series on VHS in the 90s and early 2000s. But for some reason, ever since they started releasing TV series on DVD, they put the episodes in airdate order. Not just Star Trek, but almost ALL TV series boxsets have the episodes in airdate order. It's just weird. I don't understand why they are sticking with the airdate order.

  • @KillaCam97 rofl love that movie but i am a lucas hound\trekkie sorry i mean TREKER i like the new star trek and the first second third and fourth and first contact

  • For me if I wanted those two disc special editions you have, I have to order them off of amazon, because they are out of print in the U.S.

  • the next generation was the best, voyager, enterprise crap crap crap. im a huge trekkie im fluent in klingon

  • An ya know what my take is on that? If the person cares enough to make a big deal about distinguishing one term from the other...then they are most DEFINITELY a Trekkie. :D

  • just started watching your videos, very entertaining keep up the good work.

  • I know, like you said in the BD-review, the studio didn't realize with this series that it was in the "wrong" order.

Or else they could have put the intended order on there and the option to watch in airdate-order.

But maybe they can update it externally some time.

Through an online update you know and add a tracklist-feature in the software.

Even include a pre-made playlist to treat the viewers.

Cause it might be some work to do it manually too.

  • Hey, you just gave me an idea.

Maybe it's possible with BD, through Java or something like that, to actually create tracklists.

Either pre-made by the studios or also by the viewers.

I know that you could actually already create tracklists on DVDs, sometimes included with music-concerts and such.

So I have no doubt they can do that and even more on BD.

That way they can let the viewer select a tracklist.

  • The problem is, the watch them in the preferred order means you have to swap discs every couple of episodes. The airdate order is COMPLETELY different, it's not just a slight difference. And there's only 4-5 episodes per disc, so unfortunately a playlist wouldn't make a difference. We've just been dealing with the disc swapping to watch them in the preferred order. It's a bit of a pain, but at least we're getting the most out of the set and watching it the way the producers intended.

  • Ah yeah, I forgot about how far apart they might be and how many there are per disc, or that there even are multiple discs.

That's also not that many per disc, probably because of all the multiple versions.

Hm, that's a bit of a shame then, for this series...

    Just unfortunate for the fans.

Would still be cool if they'd create such a feature for other releases though. :)

  • Well really the only difference is the FX shots, so whichever versions you're watching it just branches to one or the other for those shots. The bulk of the episodes are the same segments for both versions.

But yeah, it's partly space, but also because they're all HD - so they take up about the equivalent amount of space per disc percentage wise as the SD versions would on regular DVD. Meaning, you can fit 4 SD episodes on a DVD in SD, or 4 or 5 HD episodes in HD on a Blu-ray.

  • Yeah, I just made an ASS out of U and ME because I didn't know how much would be called remastered.

It could have been like, that even though there aren't any big effects changed, that even the neutral color or look of things (like the hue or anything like that) might have been altered too in the remastered version.

Having me think it might have everything on there twice.

But the way it is, is much better, and more logical to do of course.

Not to forget the audio-tracks and possible extras.

  • What's your issue with the air date order? All the episodes are one-part stories. The first episode I saw was Episode 13 or something and then I saw Episode 27. I don't care either way.

I lean ti air date order though, because thats the order they have on the sets. (I have the original season sets from 2004 and the remastered ones from last year. Although I really should sell them I just can't let go of my original fx sets).

  • Watch my recent 3-part review of the Blu-ray set. I go into detail about the viewing order, and discuss how it has been presented on all the releases over the years. In short, production order is the generally preferred order, and has a very obvious continuity when watching in that order (it is also how the video releases were done for nearly 20 years), whereas the airdate order was completely random.

  • Oh, and FYI - The Blu-ray set has both the original and remastered fx.

  • I am a Trekkie, too, and I didn't quite like the new film.

But I would DEFINITELY appreciate a review by Zaranyzerak! Please do one!

    greetings from your German fan,

    zensorship

  • Can you do an overview of the new re-released editions of the original series please

  • Do think that the TNG movies will ever be on Blu-ray?

  • Comment removed

  • Whats up? I have a couple questions. First, I am debating whether or not to buy Star Trek: The Next Generation - Complete Series (1987) or wait until the series comes out on Blu-ray. What would you recommend?

Second, I am confused about Shout! Factorys Transformers and GI Joe series releases. Are they going to release the series box sets separately and then Complete Series sets or they going release the box sets concurrently with Complete Series sets?

  • I wouldn't hold my breath for a Blu-ray release of any of the Star Trek shows aside from TOS and Enterprise. The primary reason being that even though TNG, DS9 and Voyager were all SHOT on film, all of the editing and post-production effects (such as phasers and transporters) were done on standard def broadcast videotape. So there would be little upgrade in quality for Blu-ray, aside from maybe a bump up in bitrate, but otherwise it would still be SD.

  • TOS was a rare case because it was ALL done on film, and the original finished film prints are stil held in the archives. So they were able to do a HD version of it fairly easily. To upgrade TNG to HD would mean tracking down all of the original film elements, re-editing every episode from the ground up, and re-doing ALL the post production effects in HD.

  • So, in short, I'd say go for it! I recommend the season sets over the complete. The complete has very shoddy packaging, and only one dinky bonus disc with a handful of new featurettes. Otherwise all the contents are the same.

As for TF and G.I. Joe, Shout is releasing the first volume of both first, then the Complete Series sets will premiere at the San Diego Comic Con, then be online exclusives for a while, and finally be made available in stores. Meanwhile, the season sets will continue

  • simultaneously, with each set being released a few months after the other. No word on what the exact schedule will be for those yet.

The Complete Series sets of both shows sound AMAZING, though, with tons of exclusive extras that won't be in the season sets.

  • hey man i have that whole set i bought the box and only one freaking movie had the little insert inside wtf and nemesis has 2 different disks so again the fuck are urs like this

  • oh and theonly one that had a book for me was the voyage home

  • aww man you a a true trekkie

  • You should do podcasts or radio :) you totaly have the voice for it

  • Huh for some reason I barely saw this review and that bothers me. I don't know how I missed this. Anyways man thanks for this. I will be buying when it comes out, if it comes out. I might just go ahead and pick up the editions that you mentioned as well because we don't know if the features will be there.

You know what really makes me smile though...the fact that Gene Roddenberry the one that started all this greatness...was born in El Paso Texas where I am from. YES!!!! BOOYAAA

  • CBS has The Trouble With Tribbles on YouTube. watch?v=YHTs7zzharg

  • Nice! One of the all-time faves.

  • will these blu rays have the original length episodes? - before they edited them for syndication.

  • Well, since every single VHS/Laserdisc/DVD release of the original series so far has been the original uncut versions, I think I can safely say yes. It's amazing just HOW MUCH gets cut out of older shows like that... With Star Trek a solid 6-7 minutes gets cut out for the syndication versions. Shameful! But yes, they will be the uncut versions on the Blu-ray set for sure.

  • ok first of all all the releases had branching and actualy the dvd and hd versions are better and there a feature to take an outside tour of the ship with a shuttle oh and yeagh 79 bucks really dont think so the blueray is miissng allot of the features the hd and dvd formst has

  • No, none of the previous release let you branch between the original and remastered effects. You might be thinking of something else. There are some special features missing, yes, (which is annoying), but the presentation of the show itself is the best that has ever been available.

  • Oh, and I actually got the set for 60 bucks, not 79. I left the price tag on it, will be showing it in an upcoming video. That's the cheapest any Star Trek series has ever been available on first release.

  • im telling u it does lol i saw a review of it thismorning and a tv spot that set that but thannks for replying

  • I'll be doing a rundown of the previous release in the video, but here's the basic breakdown:

First DVD release: Single volumes, 2 episodes per disc, original version.

Second DVD release: Season sets, original version.

HD-DVD/DVD Combo release: Season 1 only, remastered edition only.

3rd DVD release: Re-release of HD-DVD/DVD combo set of Season 1, DVD only for Season 2 & 3, Remastered version only.

Blu-ray release: Season sets, contains BOTH Remastered and original versions via branching.

  • If it makes any difference, I'm also talking specifically about the Region 1 releases. If there was some sort of branched version available previously outside of Region 1, I am unaware of it. but according to every review I've seen (including fan reviews) of the previous sets, they have only ever been one version or the other (and this was one of the reasons I never bothered with the previous releases). The Blu-ray version is the first to contain both.

  • My dad and i will be getting that on blu ray, thanks for the great news! Dads been a devoted trekkie since it first aired.

  • I totally agree on you about the viewing order for Star Trek TOS. Thanks for the update, I cant wait.

  • I agree about the pricing! the sets they had here were about $140AUD!!!! but that had a fancier plastic case, like my ds9 season 7, but Ive noticed they have re-released them in the standard thin case boxed sets so they are down to about $70 however they are still never on special, I got half of my SG1 dvd sets for $40-$50 bucks each and they have loads more features, even when the new seasons come out the price is still $65max!! It pisses me off I wouldn't mind getting more trek dvds :(

  • thanks for the news. which movie was your fav. I liked the wrath of kahn

  • my fav star trek is voyager because i think seven of nine is hot

  • I think the original broadcast versions will be in standard def and only the remastered will be in hi-def. It's all rumor now but I think Paramount will cheapen out and make it an extra as opposed to the featured content.

  • From what I read it sounded more like it would be a seamless branching feature, so they could have both without using too much more disc space. But it's all speculation at this point anyway...we'll know for sure in a few months! Either way, I'll be happy to have both versions in one set.

  • Definitely. As far as those go, I still want to get the sets of the original broadcast versions of Robotech, and the 3 complete collections of the original Japanese shows. Not sure when I'll get around to it, but they're must-buys for sure.

  • i dont like startrek but i love your vids

  • wrath of kahn is by far the best outta the movies...still waiting for the new 1 tho...great video you rock!!!!!

  • Agreed! Wrath of Khan is my absolute fave. Ricardo Montalban was such an awesome villain (R.I.P.)...

  • You green-blooded son of a bitch! It's your revenge for all the arguments you lost. :-)

  • Lol! One of the best lines ever. :D

  • I don't think you're working on all thrusters. :D

  • Thank you, thank you, thank you! This is great news! Blu ray is probably a ways off for me yet, but it's good to know there is likely to be such a good product waiting for me when I get there. Now I just have to decide whether or not to buy the DVD versions in the mean time. I already have season one HD/DVD, but I've been wanting to pick up the other two as well.

  • Yet more interesting fact from you shaun good stuff too considering im not a fan of Star Trek lol my older brother on the other hand would give his right left and center body parts to own everything of the show lol

  • Yeah, that's the "terrified" part for me. We'll just have to wait and see... I know they're hoping this will be a big reboot for the franchise, so HOPEFULLY they're going to do a good job of it.

Sounds like you got the same editions I have, just in the boxed set. I waited quite a while to get the movies as well, and just couldn't pass up those 2-disc versions! Great extras on all of 'em!

  • 5 stars interesting video! Why are the movies in thick cases? I like them, but is it necessary for only two discs?

  • No idea why they went with the thicker cases, maybe just to give them a little more prominence on our shelves?

  • which is the best sci-fi?.star trek, star wars, battlestar galactica(the original) or dr. who?

  • Oooohhh...tough call! They're all awesome in their own ways, and all very much DIFFERENT types of sci-fi. I honestly don't think I could place one above the other, they all have plenty to offer sci-fi fans!

  • what r ur thoughts about the black dr. who?

  • What black Doctor Who?

  • The new Doctor Who is Matt Smith, and he's very white... But regardless, I would have no problem with a black actor playing the role. It's really just a matter of him being a good actor who can bring something interesting to the role.

  • When you showed the inside of the DVD case, the two discs were so plain-jane...the ones I got have real nice artwork on them.

AND...the ones I got have booklets for the first 5 movies.

  • i am looking forward for the new star trek film

  • 5 ratings shawn keep up the good work :)

  • Thanks, jetcrow! :)
