OOOOOOH MAANNN...i was looking for this like 4 years ago, and me and my homeboy searched for it with no luck...ooooh maaaaannnn..... this song used to scare me for some reason...not quite sure ...but THANKS FOR UPLOADING...OOOH MAAAAN
It really scares me to see how many people here don't understand the point of the song.
It's not really "teaching" anything, IMO. It's just a song expressing something that kids can relate to: the idea that everything "fun" you want to do gets told, "NO!" And however much we need the word, "no," that's frustrating.
This was one of my favourite songs from SST back in the day, so I'm glad to find it here.
@SaiyanLady: Watch AoStH. People have taken Robotnik's "SnooPING AS usual" comment & shortened it to PINGAS, which is thought to be the term for a male's sexual organ in Spanish.
I loved this as a child and it brings back very happy feelings to hear it. It didn't bother me that they were saying no, it still sounded fun and catchy and I love Maria and Gina!
Ah, yes. Sesame Street's way of imposing totalitarianism on the young crowds. Total control, total obedience, total peace...
Just kidding. But I remember seeing this skit in a "flashback" episode where Maria finds one of the props used in this skit for sale at Oscar's Garage Sale.
I thought that it looked a little funny how Gina was doing a teasing look at 1:23 when both she and Maria are singing and teaching the muppets on the skit and the audience the word "no" and what it means. It feels like Gina is singing and saying "No Teasing" but, she is teasing at 1:23.
this song made me angry when i was little. i dont like the color red because it is negative and reminds me of this. red means stop, wrong, no, bad, and danger.
I feel like someone said it's 1988 or 1989. I remember this song VIVIDLY from when I was a little kid in the early to mid 90s. It SCREAMS 80s! The part I remember most is Prarie Dawn at the stop light, Gina making the teasing face, and Big Bird swinging his feet. lol
I liked this song a lot as a kid because it reminded me of how often i sometimes heard my mom and dad tell me "no" - maybe making that kind of connection was the point.
to teach children about the word NO. isn't it pretty obvious!?!? I saw this clip on Sesame English on EBS English this morning. So funny to see it again after all these years. Then i got it stuck in my head. The word is NO!!!!!!
I also really like this song too. If I were to take a guess, maybe this song is supposed to teach kids that "no" is a very powerful word sometimes. For example, if there was a young kid who was drawing on the wall with a crayon, and his/her parents shouted "no" to them would help the kid understand that they're not supposed to draw on the wall after the kid hears the word "no" being said to them. (I might be wrong but, this is just a guess).
Maybe the reason why this skit made some kids cry is because, it was probably confusing little kids that the kids are not allowed to have any fun in life since Gina and Maria are saying "no" to a lot of fun things here. Like, they're saying no to "biking" "swimming", "hiking", "camping", "laughing", "talking", and especially "hiding" where Ernie and Bert were hiding from 1:27-1:33 since hide and seek is a fun game for little kids. So I guess this skit was making kids think there's no more fun.
So classic 80's, A-Ha meets preschool!!! Look how young Maria is. Do you realize that next year Sesame Street will be 40? I was six going on 7 when they aired the 20th anniversary special and now it is going to be 40!!! Wow!!!
This used to creep me out when I was a kid. My mom chased me around the house to get me to understand the meaning of the song because she thought I just didn't like hearing the word "no," but it was really because I thought the song and video were scary.
the grey and black lips said no so thats why i cried and hated this song so much because i hated that word back then when i was 2 but it is ok for me now
i used to hate this song when i was younger cause when the black and grey lips said no i cried because of them. But now everytime the lips say no i get a chill going down my spineever time weird huh?
