  • This guy is GREAT!

  • I just found out a terrible thing about Charlie Rich. He got blacklisted from the CMAs for what he did to John Denver. He burned the envelope that had John Denvers name on it at the CMAs. Why did he do that?

  • Comment removed

  • @gammastation (why did he do that)

Actually Charlie was ordered by his physician (my uncle) not to leave the Mem. hospital where he was being treated. But Charlie's wife Margaret Ann "insisted" that he had to make that trip to Nashville for the awards show. The serious prescription medication Charlie was on at the time did not mix well with the cocktails he had been drinking that evening backstage & well the rest is history. So sad because that decision ruined Charlies career.

    Hav a good one!

  • @1betrman Thanks for the information and you have a great New Year!!!!!

  • Remember this as a kid......beautiful.......

  • This song is great..thank you very much for sharing it!

  • If you like this one by Charlie, check out one of his earliest hits that someway was mostly forgotten over time. "Just A Little Bit Sweet" It is even hard to get to on here. You have to put the title then / charlie rich. If you haven't heard it , it is worth it.

  • i think im inlove with his songs!

  • I emigrated to USA (Houston Tx.) in 1978, I didn't know nothing about country music.

I bought me a 1978 Chrysler Le Baron. the guy who sold it to me forgot his 8 tracks in the car. What a beautiful experiency to get to know the American country music in these 8 tracks.

This song was one of the most beautiful songs I heard those days.

    Luis Cortes from Mexico City

  • I heard an interview in from 1992 w Charlie Rich on NPR Saturday. He sounded like he was 80. It just didnt seem possible with that magnificant singing voice. I read after he died someone said they never saw him without a drink in his hand. I was listening to the interview waiting to hear who the old geezer was. I allways have scan on in the car and came upon this interview in progress. He seemed a little slow mentally too, like I say was really surprised to find out who he was.

  • @bobsixfour

booze and pills kept these"road singers" goin town to town honky-tonk to honky-tonk..just ask Willie and Waylon! That junk fries your brain after a while!

  • Mrs Rich just passed she is now with her loved one. God Bless Mr and Mrs Rich.

  • the most beautiful some for the most beautiful girl I love you Steph........dad. carlos

  • Anybody that Makes a statement, then follows it up with "and i should know because I'mmmmmm im the music business" is a complete moron. Get over yourself.

  • #1 and then some.

  • beautiful play back! Enjoy.

  • God, he was really incredible, wasn't he? R.I.P. Charlie. God Bless You.

  • Charlie will be missed. Though I don't have too many of his songs, this one will always stand out. His voice just pierces my heart.

    We'll miss you Charlie.

  • Timeless! Sharing National Sunday Law by A. Jan Marcussen=)

  • Why in the hell are you all making lists of greatest singers when you should be talking about Charlie, his voice and most of all this great song???? Very weird.

  • Charlie was a class act. I always come back to this song. I remember when this song first came out, the world will miss him.

  • What year did we lose charlie?

  • I think is 1995

  • So many memories with my mom and Dad !

  • Charlie Rich had a voice that put most singers to shame.

  • Johnny and charlie were both from Arkansas.

  • oh I LUV this! Heard it on allmemphismusic and its awesome. OMG he's so WHITE in his hair. So is he head now?

  • It just doesn't get any better than this.

  • this is one great song

  • What a talented man! Love his music and voice. Elvis had nothing on him. I love

Elvis but he had nothing on Charlie Rich.

  • very, very big call

  • And Charlie Rich never had anything on Johnny Cash.

  • CashPresley32 -

What? Johnny Cash wishes he had

10% of Charlie Rich's voice and musical

talent. The man in black was not in Elvis's or Rich's league. Elvis was a better performer than Rich, I'll give him that. But, he certainly was not a better

musician. Don't get me wrong, Elvis will always be King.

  • Johnny Cash is more well known then Charlie Rich, Who sold more albums Charlie Rich or Johnny Cash? The answer is Johnny Cash. People know and like more of Johnny Cash's songs than Charlie Rich. Johnny Cash had more people come to his concerts than Charlie Rich did. That is the absolute truth.

  • Nobody had nothing on Johnny Cash.

  • CashPresley32 -

Johnny Cash had nothing on Charlie Rich. Johnny was more popular. God knows the jailbirds loved him, but he was

not the singer or musician that Charlie Rich was. Charlie Rich was much classier. Johnny spoke more to the white trash crowd.

  • Johnny Cash crossed all musical boundaries. Did Charlie Rich do that? and no I am not white trash, and I love Johnny Cash. I am part white and part indian. He spoke for all America, and all people. He had a heart, and he wanted to help those that were downtrodden. He sang about all kinds of people. From indians and prisoners to farmers and working man. Johnny Cash epitomized America, and people think of America they think of Johnny Cash not Charlie Rich, I'm sorry.

  • CashPresley32 -

Well, I like Charlie Rich better. Maybe you don't, maybe the whole world doesn't.

But, this video is a tribute to Charlie Rich,

who is very underrated, in my opinion.

  • Actually nobody had nothing on Elvis my friend.

  • Well you know what they say. Everyone has an opinion and opinions are like........Let's just put it in perspective. Nobody has sold more records/tapes/cd's than Elvis. The Beatles are # 2 in that category. That's just history speaking my friend. Johnny Cash is a Legend, but nobody comes close to Elvis and The Beatles...As far as singing ability? Cash couldn't touch Elvis. Elvis had a 3 octave range in full voice and even more counting his falsetto. cash on the other hand had a very limited range

  • Well Johnny Cash sold more records than even the Beatles. Read up on Johnny Cash and you will see that. I research on singers all the time, day in and day out. So I think I should know a little bit more than you. 11. Kenny Rogers 12. Kris Kristofferson 13. Merle Haggard 14. Carl Smith 15. George Jones 16. Hank Williams 17. Hank Williams Jr. 18. Ernest Tubb 19. Buck Owens 20. Hank Snow There is my top twenty.
  • Wow I'm happy you have a top 20......LOL....whatever.....Let me share something with you pal. An artist recieves a gold or platinum record when they sell so many cd's(records). Elvis has the most gold and platinum records. The Beatles have the second most. I think you need to do some more research my friend. Johnny Cash is not even in the top 10 all-time selling artist. I love Cash, but the facts are the facts. I'm in the music business and when it comes to Elvis I am considered an expert.

  • Just reading your post I can tell you are not dealing with a full deck.

  • One of the greatest country songs of all time.

  • That is one hell of a song, brought back a ton of memories for me, As a 18 year old an even now..as there is this girl..that I lost an that song made me cry just like way back then.. awesome live version!

search for: Dino John - The Most Beautiful Girl

  • Closest thing to Elvis that country music has come.

  • this song being me back to the 70's beautiful song. where everything some so easy back then.

  • Great Singer!!!!!!

  • this song reminds me when i was 18 yrs old in 1973 , i was at Lon Moiss Colege in Jacksonville _ Texas....Omar

  • Isn't it srange what you don't know. Only found out the other day that the piano on JLL's "Whole lotta shakin' going on" is Charlie Rich. One of the most full on tracks you'll ever hear. Charlie Rich deserves more kudos in the annals of contemporary music as does Billy Swan.

  • does anyone have the clip when charlie was announcing john denver as the recipient of an award and burned the paper because he had a little to to drink and the audience went wild and john denver was not present but appeared on satelite-i have seen it one time and it was so funny--it may have been country music awards or the opra-i would love to see it on you tube

  • It occasionally turns up in Denver documentaries, some of which have been posted on YT.I saw it here myself that way but the documentary got pulled due to copyright reasons.

John is smiling and completely oblivious to the furore.

Apparently years later Charlie went to John's home in Colorado and wanted to apologize but John wasn't home.

I'm sure JD would have forgiven him without hesitation as poor JD had alcohol issues himself in later years when his second wife cheated on him.

  • OMG! I miss Charlie Rich so much. It's too bad about his passing in 1995. :( He was a revolutionary. He didn't get much credit for his music, not as much as he deserved, not NEAR it. He was a beautiful singer and musician.

  • I'm going down memory lane. This was the first song played at my wedding 31 years ago.

  • and what a song :)

  • would you like to know the history behind it.the song that was writtin. the guy who wrote it the last name i think i've got correct ,spelling may be wrong so pardon. norow willson . my grandfather remaried a woman named evelin and one of her daughters named patsy the song was written for. norrow wrote some songs for charlie. another was a very special love song.i was very young back then he was just getting his start back then as a writter n later became a producer.

  • Written by: Bourke, Rory Michael/Sherrill, Billy/Wilson, Norris is what it shows. I guess that is the Noro Wilson you are referring to.

  • yes my spelling is horrable thank you for helping me get his name correct.he went on to be a writer of course and a producer and also i guess looking for talent he worked for some big lables n later had studios of his own. before he retired.

  • what a beautiful and special song. saw him in concert at msg. in 73. country exploded into the mainstream at this time thanks to the silver fox. we all miss him

  • the silver fox---wonderful song, "behind closed doors" is his other brillant hit!!!!WE MISS YA CHARLIE

  • 4 my baby

  • Charie, you should see the most beautiful girl of Peking

  • *sigh* This song really takes me back. He was my Grandpa's favorite...I can remember he and my Grandma slow dancing to this, him singly to her. Thanks for posting this. It did my heart good. Charlie Rich~ he's such a classic! Thanks! You reminded me how good it was to hear his voice~ now, I have to go buy the CD!

  • It doesnt show his hands because it's synched-He recorded everything from this era in his own world class home studio-he was an accomplished jazz pianist as well as pop country

  • Excuse me, but CR didn't record everything inside his home studio, he recorded most of his work in whatever studio he was under contract with at the time. He did, however, record several demos over the years from his home studio, but even his final album, "Pictures and Paintings" was recorded at a professional studio. P&P was recorded at Sire Record studios.

  • silver fox memphis diamond

  • Great Song:) It Was On My Home Playing All The Time:)

  • I can assure definitely - No - Is Elvis The Legendary Danny O'Doul, no!

We are three separate and unique musical artists.

    Sincerely, The Legendary Danny O'Doul*

*Interestingly, The Legendary Danny O'Doul invented slap back echo, first, in the autumn of 1954.

  • Oh please...anyone with an ear for music knows the difference.

  • is charlie rich elvis?

    think about it

  • Charlie Rich is pure class. This is only one of many great songs in many different styles.

  • That's great but it is not LIVE. Why do so many people not know what that means? What a song.

  • The better live version is the Charlie Rich duet with the Legendary DANNY O'DOUL - very rare, if still available due to copyright issues.

  • Charlie Rich is one of the most underrated jazz/blues/rock/country singers. There is much more than this song, believe me. Check out "Lonely Weekends: The Best of Charlie Rich" and hear some STUFF!!!

  • Not once in the clip does it show Charlie's hands on the piano!

  • Please, any body from memphis would just slap your ass!

  • FINALLY!!! Thank you ! Please post more :)

  • if you can find all his music, you will be amazed. Charlie was great singer songwriter. his son even looks like him www.charlierichjr.com check it out.

What a classic! Thanks for sharing.

  • Yeah i remember this to when i was a kid,but you go back& realise the fox did a lot of other class stuff!

  • fantastic.. I love his voice

  • hermoza cancion...linda..trizte... q epocas eran akellas... :(

  • Love everything that the Silver Fox ever did... got to say that the backing band is so cheesy it borders on 70's Dali-esque surrealism!!
