It's what's going on most of the time in deadmau5's songs, where it is musically appropriate to do so. Though I don't like it in dubstep because it feels out of place.

Yes, it's supposed to be a joke, but it's still pretty enjoyable. It does feel synthetic, but that's because the emotion put in to it was synthetic. I think that despite the joke being made here, Skrillex and popular producers like him that use a lot of very distorted basslines and noises actually do put their emotion into it, thus making their music very good despite this popular "trend."
