  • Now if only we could control MMO's with our mind. I would power level so damn quick. lol

  • lazy bastard ;)

  • Beeting another the person who played WWII using gaze only, I pleased to see how many people here doubt that this is real. And then say something like "if (BIG IF) it is real, then it is cool". That is the effect gaze-control have to introduce: it is hard to believe it is real (so much impressive), and is unforgettable when you try it first time.

Should not take long to find gaze-control in Kinect....

  • @lexasss I think they are using the Kinect with the software right now. If I recall correctly they needed volunteers to test it out a month or two ago.

  • cheisse

  • I wish someone would develop eye gaze for Mac.. why are they all windows based?

  • @Katilea69 cause windows is BEAST! main operating system. u should try it!

  • @MegaGunster Windows is actually an extremely lacking OS. Mac is better than Windows but Linux is more superior to both of them.

  • So what happens when your head position changes?

I have to play with a really stiff neck?

  • 2:50 new guy

  • now plz do tell me how does *click* work?

at the back ground i hear some clicking...what is that all about?

  • @bazbazlu never mind now i know... by blinking

  • Behind the table sitting guy with mouse and keyboard and controll the game.Guy what we see just sitting and loking in manetor=)

  • 'This video shows someone sitting behind the camera playing wow while i look where he is moving his char'.

Wonder what those strange clicks are in the background everytime loot window pops up :s

  • Awesome!!

  • ZOMG I tried this and now i dont have an account good going hacker

  • Easy enough to be honest, USE KEY BINDS!!!!!!!!!! YOU FUCKING NOOBS :)

  • very bad fake!!:DDDDD

You hear the mouse, in the background!

  • Perfekt. Jetzt Müssen WoW-Player nichtmal die Handbewegen, und werden noch dicker :D

  • Looks cool especially seen as I have DMD and can only use a thumb and finger... irritating

  • This isn't about the future of gaming, it's for movement impaired users.

Had a go with this set up myself (did a test for the guy running the project at DMU) and it's a reasonable replacement for people who can't use a mouse or keyboard.

  • @AtheistAgent Then why the hell can you hear a mouse in the background, nice try hacking peoples accounts ass face ;)

  • @Replaymw2 Because judging by the wall colour that room would be the old Virtual Reality lab at DMU, which is now the Alienware lab. There was an office inside that room as well as expensive projection equipment for a large panoramic screen used for 3D. No accounts were hacked, I just happen to know the guy that does all this research. There's even a New Scientist article (just search for "eye world of warcraft").

  • u can here pinball in the back ground

  • I think it was the apache helicopter that first used the pilots head turns to move a mounted minigun. His eyes could actually make small adjustments and fire the weapon. My point is that this type of computer manipulation is very plausible and could very soon become available to the consumer.

  • its cool but unconventient for gamers.

  • You mean INconventient. *waggles finger*

Anyway i think this is amazing. Very nice indeed with WoW being maybe its least interesting appliaction.

  • interesting but useless

  • @Funkyfists1 You mean Application. *waggles finger* LOL

  • True true lol :P

  • Unless of course you have no hands!

  • then it wouldnt exist, because there wouldnt be enough profit

  • Great!!! Fantastic!

  • its a cool bit of work but the problem i see with technology like this is that

    a) you are fixing something that isnt broken, at least in this context (although i understand its not meant for WoW use)

    b) what if you want to look away from the screen without affecting whats happening with it? this will probably cause more eye strain than normal because you will be moving your eyes constantly rather than just using peripheral vision etc.

  • I don't normally respond to stupid/insulting comments but... this software we have developed is FREE! The eye tracker I am using is a Tobii x120 and is extremely accurate (and expensive £15k). Web cam eye trackers are superb developments but cannot compete with commercial eye trackers until there are improvements to the resolution and optics. The open source eye tracking you are referring to is developed by my colleagues at ITU in Copenhagen and we are ALL part of the COGAIN research network.

  • DMU we rock

  • For all the people thinking that this is fake;

Do some research on eye tracking; check wikipedia pages etc.

13 years ago, Jason Becker (musician with ALS- could only move his eyes and parts of his face/jaw and neck at this stage) released an album "Perspective", composed on a computer using eye tracking and his chin for clicks- Why would the simple task of walking about in WoW be impossible now, when 13 years ago someone made beautifull music with it?

  • lol NOOOB! :D

  • This is fucking amazing, I want it!

  • You're an idiot, it mouse clicks on the game sound,

Also its proven by a university in Finland, and others.

    Fucking moron.

  • This is an amazing invention and genius but I would prefer playing WoW with a mouse and keyboard. To used to it, I would like this maybe for when I'm not gaming. Really cool machine

  • Pretty cool but I don't see this selling.

  • yes but think about what the future of gaming will come to from a product like this this maybe then way to look into an in game movement control (your movement will take place in game)or maybe even controlling an object

  • how much are one of those??

  • its fake u can hear clicks in the back ground meaning its like wireless mouse and someone is doing it for him

  • Blinking is not a good way of issuing commands. We blink all the time and to control left and right blinks would take a lot of energy and skill!

If I want to emulate a left mouse click then I will perform an eye gesture (in this case a flick off to the left side of the screen) and I can then perform left clicks based on dwell times. The same can apply for right clicks

one point you said that when you stare at something long enough

    that makes a click

and at the start why are you using a mouse?

  • "one point you said that when you stare at something long enough

that makes a click" - what about it?

"and at the start why are you using a mouse? " - so that I can start the application

  • dude you're just an idiot.

  • he could of jist put a vid on nuther vid.

  • now i wanna know how do u jump XD hahah and how do u specs to make that thing to work in a raid environment where u have to be doin like 10 different things at the time

  • imagine using this (with hands to click) on a first person shooter..that would be so sick

  • Emagin using this technology for diabled people to move around. "Look at an object and the wheel chair moves to it". ;)

  • lol i don't know if that would work....they would be constantly moving o.o

  • Unless you program them to stop when they close their eyes for, say 2 seconds.

Mark my words: within the next few years this will be possible ;)

  • Or even better: you look at an object, and the object comes to you :O

  • This is one of the possible outcomes of the project. Do the rules of gaze based locomotion in games like this apply to the real world?

We are part of COGAIN (Communication with Gaze Interaction) and some of our institutions have been looking at gaze driven wheel chairs for some time now and progress is going well.

If you search for "magickey project" you will find a nice video demonstration :)

  • That is exactly what I was thinking about.

To be honest, I have the chance to be a part of the danish "Forskerspirer", and since I'm very interrested in computers and programming, making this work well would be an ideal project for my forskerspirer.

I just don't know if I have the time (or passion) to fullfill this project to the end.

Got any suggestions? I believe you're from ITU CPH, which would be where I end up if I want to continue with this.

  • No I am not from ITU :) ... although, many of my colleagues are there (including one of the project supervisors). I am at De Montfort University in Leicester, UK.

I think it depends on what motivates you - I love programming, gaming and learning. My research also has a humanitarian slant in that it can help severely disable users. If you are interested at doing something like this at ITU then I can put you in touch with the eye tracking people there.

  • I am very interrested in learning more about this. I might want to focus on the possibilities with this invention (...or discovery?) in the gaming and computer usage area rather than how to hook it to a wheel chair (seen it work on youtube - thanks for the link ;) ).

Maybe you could refer me to some computer scientists who have designed the programs needed in order to make this happen? In WoW, as well as internet browsing you know. Could I eventually get your e-mail adress for futher talking? :P

  • @dazzleisace

"it can help severly disable users"

I think you meant "disabled" :P

  • yeah, great video. How much does a gazetracker cost and how much would it cost me to build one?

  • Far out, this is pretty cool. Not very good for the eyes, well.. even more.

  • yunno how some older people are

so clueless when it comes to technology

ever wonder if any of us will be in their shoes

when hella advanced tech comes out,

and we'll say, "ohh, in my days, we used touch screen and eye trackers"

    haha

  • honestly, i cant say whether this is real or not

it's such an astounding mechanism that it seems fake

but if you think about it, our level of technology development is miraculous.

this could might as well be real.

i mean, if you time travel back to the 80's, devices like the iTouch would be fake too

    haha

  • Eye tracking existed for at least the last 7 or 8 years in SLR camera eyepieces. I don't know if it can be done from such a large distance, but from a few millimeters away it can be done (and has been done.)

  • this shit has been around for a few years now at this sorta distance. It is fuken expensive (this OLD setup would still be a decent 1000-1500USD)

  • Stick another zero on the end there... 15k is much closer to the price :)

  • fake...but people ARE working on things like this, just you hear about it being used for minor games..like pong on atari, for handicapped...so it is real, just this one is fake, and they aren't anywhere near this high of it...nice try :)

  • cool concept

    just adding an idea

if this device were to work as is

wouldnt there be a separate mouse click

since you cant really "click" with just looking

whether this vid is real or not, i cant say

but separate mouse click buttons makes sense

and the eye movements can be just for moving the mouse itself

  • you could blink for a click

  • haha

there'd be a lot of undesired clicks

  • You can generate/emulate a mouse click in several ways. One such method is by using dwell time so... you stare at something long enough you generate a click at that position.

I LOVE the fact that people think this video is fake... lol... all you need to do is Google "eye tracking" or "gaze gaming" to see that this technology is 20 years old... the only new things here are the techniques and implementation :)

  • Just wait for the next video... the new gaze interaction techniques we are working on are awesome!

  • Hmmm fake but nice try, its a good idea

  • ...?? why should it be a fake???

  • cool

  • Interesting concept. Realizing that it's fake, if it were to be real, put that sucker in a 20 man raid. Minimum. Then look at the data you collect. That would be pretty cool to look at in the end, but that's because not only am I a nerd, I'm also a geek.

  • Well done.

  • Hmmmm ?

  • Do you not know what a gimmick is?

  • Yes... but I don't understand how it is a gimmick?

This research is aimed at helping severly motor impaired users to play computer games.

  • Hmmm...weird...not sure what to think of that , lol. BUT! if it were possible that is pretty neat. As far as being real is concerened...if you watch his neck collar the whole time...you can see him breathing. Also, his mouse movements are a bit jagged....who knows ^-^.

Where would you get one anyway? Can you imagine the possibilities for poeple who have no arms?

  • IF,,(BIG IF!) it is real, it is VERY COOL!. i personally wouldn't use it due to eye strain or other eye problems, or because it might seem like more hassle then touch screen/voice recognition, but its an awesome software never the less

  • why do you hear the clicking when he like clicks the quest thing?

  • ...because the software makes an audible "click" sound when an action is made. Audio feedback is very important when using any input device.

  • oh cool

  • nice work

  • This is a real experiment, a guy was looking for testers at our university for this and showed clips of these videos there, so I doubt that this would be faked.

  • You can hear mouse clicks whenever he "does" something with his eyes.

Also, the human eye shakes and moves much more than the cursor was moving. I highly doubt that your tech can compensate enough to offer mouse control that smoothly.

I must call this video faked.

  • ...audio feedback and filtering of gaze data. Simple.

  • fuckin sexy

  • it must be hard playing with that

  • sorry i wrote things wrong

  • ... and have got things very wrong!

  • yu hear the fouvkink mouse in the background, somebdy plays from behind him, you dont got to be a foucking genius to understand that

  • WOOHOO now all exercise i get while playing WoW is using the crapper and getting a drink!! sweet!Ok well back to the real world, this looks kinda cool and as early stated usefull to disable people.

  • Seriously ... It would suck to be paralyzed... its nice to know that they can now live in a world where they aren't.

  • wait... hold up... how is this even possible? How does he click? he blinks?? wtf... how does he right click, left click, move the mouse or move period?

  • wow, that was pretty cool

  • The future is here! able to play world of warcraft just by looking at it. i've been dreaming that scenario since I was a young boy

  • Actually, I think it's a great idea for people who suffer from medical conditions that would not allow them to otherwise play a video game. Imagine being paralysed, at least you might be able to play WoW!

  • ive always wanted to use a P server but I herd that actually using it can be difficult as you have to install the world of warcraft delete it and install it again which is EXTREMELY time consuming is this true and if so is there an easier way

  • uh... no u jst change the realm list...

  • wow...wierd

  • The Future! Now you do not have to move at ALL!!!

  • nice one ;)

  • How does it really work? I know that left click can be performed with an eyeblink, but how do U do the right click? With the other eye, or it scans only 1 eye?

  • Blinking is not a good way of issuing commands. We blink all the time and to control left and right blinks would take a lot of energy and skill!

If I want to emulate a left mouse click then I will perform an eye gesture (in this case a flick off to the left side of the screen) and I can then perform left clicks based on dwell times. The same can apply for right clicks.

  • Can clicks be programmed to... I don't know... 3 fast blinks, or enything else U wish?

  • Yep, we could... although we would stay away from blinks... we could use different types of eye movements such as saccades and smooth pursuits, also we can use pupil size and head position. It is just a case of the software detecting what has occured and then us trying to work out what the user was intending to do. The resulting action could be a mouse click... a keyboard event... a macro... etc...

  • Perhaps a wink?? (only closing one eye?

  • Me 2

  • I wonder how u type.. O.o?

  • There are many ways to "eye type"... such as with an onscreen keyboard or maybe something like Dasher which, is very clever but tricky to get the hang of.. you will have to google Dasher because I cannot post URLs.

All I need to do is assign the chosen method of text input to one of the gaze gesture (then ensure that the text goes to the right place)... easy :)

  • he moves cursor with his eyes.. nice clicks with his foot.. ncier!

  • real time weapon change!

  • lol how does he click his hands arent moving...

  • booo alliance

  • what is ur in pvp with that

    get ur serious face on

    >=)!!!!!!

  • lmao!!! nice!!!

  • Aww... That is sweet... And I play with the goggles, but an eye-tracker... NICE..

From Mellenium (Human lvl 70 Paladin)

  • sweeeeeeet

  • My bro goes to De Montfort

  • pretty cool

  • how is he walking?

  • prolly on Click too move? maybe?

  • yeah. pretty amazing

  • wow thats carzy

  • it can be real but i mean thats amazing, i wonder if he would be a holy priest at lvl 70 healing in The Eye.. see how he makes it with eye interaction.. why did i hear clicking?

  • it real. japan has been studying it for many years and if you look at just a little research of how its done it makes perfect sence. the big black box at the bottom of his computer follows your eye movements and then tells the mouse to move to where your looking.

  • O.o

  • that is so cool id love to have one you dont even have to move god that is so cool finely someone as lazy as me :)

    lol

  • Well, it's not necessarily about increased comfort. I'm thinking that a tool like this would be useful for people who for various reasons can't use their hands to control the mouse.

  • that looks intense but i dont really see where this would ever come in handy other than being really cool :P

  • handycap ppl...

  • oh yeh good point

  • yea

  • Thats just a LITTLE creepy to me.

It might just be that the lil red lazers could probibly do damage to your eyes over time

  • The video camera is sensitive to infrared light which is why they appear as they do. There are investigations into long term affects of exposure to infrared but nothing really proven as yet.

  • lol an insult coming from a guy who cant even spell... maybe when you go back to school and learn good grammar we will go out and do something =D

  • This is perfect for really, really lazy people.

  • This kind of hardware has been out for many many years as stated brfore threre are a few odd points about this video though like the smoth mouse; if this was directly maped to eye movement it would be moving so rapidly at would be uncontrolable nor would it ever stay still(you cant keep your eyes still) there would have to be somekind of sensitivity 'meter' as for the clicking im not sure how that works maybe the closeing of an eye? the clicking noises in the background could be from another pc.

  • Guys, turn up the volume! You can hear *click* all the time! Listen carefully! Pl when he targets the wolf, one click, but he missed then one another click and he targeted the wolf, and the third click - attacking.

  • Lol, its true O.o You can actually hear clicking from a mouse and a keyboard.. freaking scammers..

  • lol dude... of course that machines makes the same sounds as the mouse.. but only you do it with your eyes.. when you move the mouse of a laptop with the touchpad you still hear the click when you click a thing, but you don't use a freakin mouse.. smart :D

  • Wow preety interesting.

  • Lol, I still dont understand after watching this vid how this works, how you can click on a NPC and run with only your eyes/mood/whatev.

Anyhow, it looks awesome and I'm looking forward to the future and how this technology will improve.

  • If the mouse cursor was mapped to eye movement, you'd see the cursor following text as it was read, or focusing rapidly on different sections of the screen as the user looked around. Not smooth curving motions (as an idle hand will make with a mouse) over nothing in particular.

I call bullshit on their demonstration.

  • Filters can be/and are applied to produce as smooth a motion as we want... this is basic eye tracking knowledge that has been around for years.

Also, a smooth pursuit eye movement is much more accurate at tracing a moving object than a mouse.

  • A funny thing would be testing this with a draenei female character. Male player.

  • Isnt this Illegal?

  • this is for real, i worked in a office who was working in things like this, i tested the same thing (moving the mouse with the eyes) for using windows, so yes, this is possible.

  • Well if I read the comments, more people ask it. You click on much things, use different skills etc in wow. How? How the heck can you walk? You have to press w -> no keyboard. Or you press left+right mousebutton -> That means that you must close your eyes or something =/?

  • Dude.. I can hear the fucking mouse clicks.

    Come on.

  • No, this is definitely legit if you do some research. Japan has been on this technology for a couple years now.

  • I was thinking the same thing.
