There is ALOT of love in that book. It talks about love and not quitting on kids. It does not talk about drawing blood. Its methods are far gentler than you will see in any culture/family group of animals. If a lioness does not nip a cub when it is too rough, it will grow up to be an abusive bully unable to work in it society and it will starve to death. Discipline is for the benefit of teaching society rules.
I love these guys who have degrees teaching people how to raise children. My grandparents spanked me on occasion. I love them deeply. I am not in counseling. I don't have nightmares. These people are on a misson and its not a good one.

Alright, having now watched to the end of that ugly little show, I want to make two contrasting points: 1) how do you know what to believe when the man being accused is never given a chance to speak? and 2) I actually do a gree that spanking your child methodically and continually for the slightest infractions is abusive and to be detested; love, patience, and communication should always come first; but I cannot agree with the broad statements being made here that all spankings are abuse.

When she doesn't want to eat her dinner, no promises of dessert will get her to eat it. She will stubbornly throw a fit and defy us instead. So what should we do, let her go hungry? That would be neglect. She needs her nutrition. So we spank for disobedience because it works, it teaches, and...she still loves us!

The difference is that he's using fear to get the children to do what he wants, in your case it's psychological conditioning. In your case it's 'good begets good, bad begets bad', in his case it's 'I'm afraid of my guardian, so I'd better not mess up'.

When he/she disobeys, do you point to it and tell them that you've been taught by men in gowns to know what is good for them?
