@HaywoodZarathustra. My favorite was the professional female of that time concerning the ads who were doctors, secretaries, tellers, and so on. Some would wear glasses or not but they were so adorable.
Thanks *SO* much to whoever it was who was able to save this old stuff somehow, and then put it up here for us to see it. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
#1. "That little monkey... the theory was that he was too small for pro football" 8/29/72 Chiefs v. Giants re Mike Adamle
#2. "Look at that little monkey run!" "He's on the 20... the 30... the 35... he cuts upfield... cuts back... the 45... 50... one man to beat.... LOOK AT THAT LITTLE MONKEY RUN!" During Halftime Highlights MNF?
#3. "That little monkey gets loose doesn't he?" 9/5/83 Dallas at Skins re Alvin Garrett
Vikings John Gilliam i remember in 1972 CBS had a competition called "PRO FOOTBALL OLMYPIAD" in 1 competition they ran a 60 dash on the field, mercury morris, issac curtis herb mul-key Gilliam and bob hayes,OMG it was hilarious Hayes KILLED the others he was 5 yards ahead at the finish and pulling away
MNF half-time highlights of the Sunday action was important to fans of the game in those days. There was no ESPN and TV local news highlights tended to show only a few of the games. Even MNF could not show everything - but they showed as much as time allowed. By Saturday, some affiliates would have the syndicated NFL films edition of the week in the NFL. But by that time, you were already long since past that and looking forward to next Sunday's action.
Tremendous! The memories, Howard's ad-lib narrations, the great NFL Films clips, the commercials, Frank at the end, the teams, players- oh the greatness of it all. And Howard is the best all time!
"The new powerhouse in the National Football League...the Pittsburgh Steelers" Boy Howard you hit that on the head! Who would've thought after the first 40 seasons of the Steelers?? Then the 4 championships in 6 years later in the decade. Great to see the beginnings of a dynasty!
The highlight of Monday Night Football in the 1970's was Howard Cosell & the halftime highlights. And he did a fantastic job on the highlights. Chris Berman can try all he wants, but Cosell was much better.
Hunter started every game in '72, but he was removed from this game in favor of his backup, Jerry Tagge. Here's the explanation from The Sporting News: "Scott Hunter was 2-for-5 and minus 5 yards and was taken out by Coach Dan Devine, who called on Jerry Tagge. ...Devine said, 'the coaching staff thought we'd have a better chance of winning if we made a change.' He said he had no intention of putting Hunter, who had a key pass hijacked by Pat Fischer, back in the game 'unless Tagge got hurt.'"
The huge TV contracts generated huge profits from the advertisers, players salaries escalated, as did profits for the team owners, as well as for the cites they hosted teams in.
He may be up for a Pete Rozelle Radio-Television Award in 2012. Contact the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio and let them know it's time for Howard Cosell to get a Pete Rozelle Radio-Television Award in 2012.
I like "back back back back" Chris Berman "but"....the saying "he could go all the way" belongs to the late great Cosell. Made ultra famous on halftime highlights... And Berman knows it!
Speaking of the monkey controversy.....on a later MNF Don Meredith chided Cosell by saying 'you old gorilla you'. Would love to see that one posted.

The players almost look like 'regular human beings' in term of size - hahaha --- as opposed to a whole different species!

Check out the commercials. Normal run of the mill people instead of male and female stepford models like today.

@HaywoodZarathustra Actually a very good point -- you can say the same about the players too : )

I wish they would bring him back. Moving him to Cinko Sayo California was a big mistake. I think they're too cheap to put out 7 figures~ :(

#2. "Look at that little monkey run!" "He's on the 20... the 30... the 35... he cuts upfield... cuts back... the 45... 50... one man to beat.... LOOK AT THAT LITTLE MONKEY RUN!" During Halftime Highlights MNF?

@MirkPurr The Rams wore their blue jerseys at home for most of 1972. Then they changed to blue and gold for '73.
