Bobby Murcer was my boyhood hero and after meeting him, I realized I could not have chose a better man. Bobby, you touched so many lives and I know that you are in heaven where you belong. We all miss you.............
Man, I miss that guy. I grew up watching him play in the 60's and 70's and he was my idol. I still remember Ralph Houk was the Manager, Horace Clark at second, Gene Michaels at third, Danny Cater at first, Munson behind the plate, Roy White in the outfield. The rivalry with Boston was monumental. But I sure missed the M&M boys batting back to back! Holy cow! You can say that again.
@tatters777: Gene Michael played shortstop most of the time (though he also played 2nd & 3rd). In 1972 the Yankees got Graig Nettles to play third base. Before that they had a few guys- Celerino Sanchez, a real hard-nosed player who hustled all the time and Jerry Kenney, a guy who played different positions and had some power. Bobby became my favorite in 1969 when he came out of nowhere and started strong.
@tripfunkmonster did you also know that Bobby Murcer was Thurman Munsons gay born again bisexual roommate fromn 1969 to 1979?If they had a Brokeback Mountain baseball team Munson and Murcer would be on the first team.
I remember Bobby Murcer's playing days. A Murcer memory of mine- after recouperating for 4 weeks in the hospital with a serious bout of salmonella food poisoning saw Murcer hit 2 mammouth homeruns against Texas Rangers at the Stadium one last August evening.(one actually appeared to have cleared the stadium although it didn't)Yankees didn't win pennant that year & I was a Mets fan.Nevertheless it was a very fun experience after spending 4 weeks in a hospital bed. Murcer was class act of Yankees.
I'm a huge Jeter fan & a diehard Yankee fan & unfortunately I have never had the privilege to see Bobby Murcer play except for that play where he goes in between the monuments. I can honestly say that Bobby Murcer from all the games that I see him broadcasting, he is truely the GENUINELY the nicest & good hearted person in the world. We'll miss you Bobby say hello to all the Yankee greats for us when u guys all play baseball up there. Jesus is very lucky to have u bobby. R.I.P Bobby Murcer.
If it means anything..the Yankees and Cubs both won today. Bobby was one of the most geniune and respected individuals in the history of baseball. A true class act, and a fine ballplayer. Rest In Peace Bobby
I was probably 5 or 6 when I watched my first baseball game on TV with my Dad. I saw this guy with the long hair hanging out of the back of his helmet. Big # 1 on his back. I remember him turning on a fastball and hooking one into the rightfield stands. I was a Murcer fan for life. You were all Yankee fans had to root for back then. Broke my heart when they traded him to the Giants, but I followed him there and to the Cubs too.
A great player. A great teammate. And a great person.
wow whats with all this hate > Mercer Murcer who cares. Bobber Mercy was a character played by Mark Walhberg and Bobby Murcer.... well we don't need to tell who he is. Cmon guys show some love. I think the when the Yankees win the World Series this year they should give the Champion Crown to Bobby Murcer.
