@maxpower700 you can't see the rc4wd portals all round on the highlift axles ? at 0:32 you can see the alloy rc4wd portal between highlift axle & wheel very clearly. thanks for the comment mate
@jezwah ah yes, but it was a rather subtle way of telling you that those portal (hubs) isn't axles. when it is a portal axle, the portals is built in and is a part of the axle! take a look at GMADE's R1, and you'll better understand my poor explanation =) and i honestly can't find these parts on the rc4wd-site, so i can't tell if they named it 'portal axles', so i can't see if i'm wrong about my comment =)
@maxpower700 i see where you're coming from mate. and you're right. they are hubs, not true portal axles. and it indeed does look like RC4WD don't sell them any more ! I might be sitting on a lil goldmine with my barely used portal "hubs" :D thanks mate
@jezwah yeah, you're right about the fact that they are a lil goldmine lol i just checked out they're site for some axles for a 6x6 project i have... i was going to use highlift axles for the simplicity (and i already have 2), but i saw that they sell the GMADE r1 portal axles, for about 20bucks more then the tamiya ones! but then i've got to figure out how to get another shaft out from the second axle (from the front counted) =)
@maxpower700 thats a tricky one right there as the gmades are a 1 piece axle (as you would already know). Well if you like to be the first (and pay for it through trial n error) go the gmades, otherwise i'd do the proven highlift / TLTor axial 6x6. I bought two more highlift diffs to make a centre passthrough diff, but then put them on the stock highlift gear i had spare and made a 3rd scaler... can't frikkin win !
@vitamingrin1 LOL i don't know what that sound is hahaha. maybe i farted but it seems too clean for that ! nice spotting lol.
I removed that chassis when i got the trail finder, but still have it laying around awaiting the next project. It suited the portals very well. Thanks !
nothing if it is a shelf queen or runs 2.2 wheels. If you want it to perform, the std chassis is not up to scratch. If you notice i am running leaf under diffs, which is virtually impossible on stock chassis whilst retaining good flex and steering.
you would definitely have better clearance over stuff, buy i reckon your truck probably rolls over easier now too ? COG is much higher than stock by the sounds of it.
it does when i have the spare wheel in the roof rack but no its had other little tweeks on the suspension and wheel weights etc so its really good :-)
hey Merzdaman, truck was from tcscrawlers when they had em, portals, R2, Punishers and Mudslingers from RC4WD, Trail doctors from TinyTuffStuff australian website, servo from electronics store (13kg metal gear), alloy for chassis is from hardware store.
nevermind mine turnd out good then yours turnd out th look GREAT man that thing is da bomb!!how long did it take you to do all the measurements???..PERFECT thanks for showing me whats relly under that beast..
it looks awesome, but those aren't portal-axles =) they're just normal highlift axles! ;)
