I can imagine how difficult could be to learn fiurst the notes by sense of fingers and later on do the interpretation in the instrument. How could it be possible. For me it is so difficult to memorize all this notes reading with my eyes. So amazing....
Impresionante, una clara muestra de sensibilidad al mas alto nivel, muy hermoso, excelente interpretación y notoria concentración, sin duda de las guitarristas con mas proyección Internacional.
how could anyone dislike this video! it inspires me to practice more, and reminds me of what hard work can do. even if i was listening to this oblivious of the performer's condition, i would place this up there with john Williams' recording. superb!
¡Bravo! This piece is very difficult and Ioana make it seems so easy, I have had lots of trouble to play that Fugue. Actually, not too many people want to play Suite II, because of the Fugue.
I used to play this piece a thousand years ago when I had some talent. It was monstrously difficult. That she is blind and can play the piece at all, much less very nicely, is nothing short of incredible.
I love this video. Just discovered classical guitar last week on YouTube. Learned guitarist Ana Vidovic performed at the campus I'm presently posting from--Western Washington University. I contacted David Feingold, WWU guitar festival organizer. He replied WWU is having budget woes; may not be able to afford Ana's return. Yahoo'd Ioana and found she gave a free concert at Kent State University in Ohio (CSNY?) earlier this year. Would Iaona be a better option for WWU? Here's hoping.
how the hell does a blind person accomplish this. It makes you really appreciate what you have, while at the same time showing that someone can accomplish great things without the means to do it effectively.
lovely interpretation, clearity of the polyphony and dynamics. keep on, the best interpretation on guitar of this hard lute piece that i've ever heard.
A very pleasant interpretation of this piece. In general she has a very even play which is most suitable for Bach. I think, however, that her right hand could have a better position. I wonder how she has a good tine despite her nails must be hitting the strings in a wrong angle.
hermx0, my theory is that the angle of Ioana's right hand could be due to her having "longish" arms (that is also the case with me, and I don't feel at all comfortable playing 90 deg. to the strings). As for tone, I've read that she's a perfectionist when it comes to getting her nails just right (using a range of sandpapers to get the desired sound). As she'd be very aware of how her sound comes across, maybe she also alters their shape to compensate for the angle.
I agree with several other posts in that a personal interpretation is not always required, particularly with Bach and that is something Williams made apparent in his performances. You did a fine job.
If god exist, you can hear his voice at a certain measure in this piece. Not this interpretation in particulary but this was very well done. I'm dead serious about what I say, there is something indescriptible at a certain measure, no human can create this in my opinion. The more I listen to Bach, the more I think bach was the instrument of god.
Yes, particularly if you consider the times and circumstances under which BAch lived! Imagine that he got little pay, had a load of kids on his lap an had to make a living as a latin teacher. Hard to imagine what he could have done if he could have devoted his live completely to music (and if his king would have payed him for his musical offering!)
In this interpretation it cannot be really heard since the guitarist dosen't play the way it should be played at this moment, I really insist on this specific moment. I'm not saying she's not good, no way, she's extremely good, but in my opinion only John Williams has done it perfectly (this specific measure i mean). Its at 3:03 to 3:07 the shifting to change movement, no human can write this. Im serious. Listen to John William version with high volume, I think god speaks at this very measure..
Listened to, but didn't really understand your point. He does the same thing 10 seconds earlier too, what's so special about that specific moment? To me it's just the more emphatic way JW plays it (right before the change in movement) vs how he plays it 10 seconds earlier that makes the perceived difference.
[recording: Sony Classical, 82876 78738 2, Bach: The 4 lute suites]
10 seconds earlier hes totally playing differently. 3:03 in this video, not in the 4 lute suites version. In the 4 lute suites version i know know where it occurs. But its definitely different and oh well I personally think this is not human even if it looks simple, its not human but thats my opinion.
I know 3:03 is on this video. It's around 5:30 on the 4 lutes. Anyway you got me curious enough so as to get myself a copy of Teuchert's edition of the piece and trying it myself the feeling was different. Divine I don't know, but there's definitely something there (measures 64, 65 and 66).
You are a loser, an amateur who does not know anything about music, you may play the guitar but you are far from being a musician, I don't even know why I am posting a comment for you to read, you are not even worth it to spend my time.
Talk about a constructive reply, out of nowhere for no reason you just decided it would be a good idea to spread that. I forgive you, after all you are only human, what can I say more.
God didn´t give you any kind of inteligence for loving something as good as this musician. Its a pity. Ioana has into her soul a beautifull loveto forgive you. You can be sure.
It seems she intuited that the piece's rhythm and melody came pre-packaged with their own manners of dynamic---why complicate it with her own humanity. This performance was more introspective rather than a flamboyant, "lap-up-my-bewildering-musicality" presentation. I like it when musicians leave themselves out of certain pieces---especially to the contrary of what Bach tended to insinuate in his more open manuscripts.
it's fantstic.....people may think that blindness might complicate guitar playing but people who's lack of a sense...has the other senses more developed and sensitive. They complement the lacked sense.
this is prety nice playing, technically good, good sound, but in regard to phrasing and dynamics over all its a little flate and mono, if you know what i mean.

Monstrously difficult is a great way to describe this piece. It's insanely difficult on the left hand. The rhythm is complex even for a song in 6/8

In my opinion this interpretation
is very esoteric - looking "inside".
What might appear as "flat" may be only
a fist impression. In fact, Bach would
have probably prefered it to be
played in this manner.
