    Larry

  • Best lesson video on you tube!!!! Awesome Larry!!!

  • Nice stuff. Great tone. I also have a Deluxe Tele. You can play any kind of music on one those. Sounds like you have just the right amount of delay on your signal.

  • @brynttr

You are right.... a tad of digital delay. The Deluxe does have great tonal range.

    Larry

  • Oh man this is great.

  • @zinnington

Thank you ! I have a lesson for this posted at my site.

    Larry

  • Wow, Larry, that's some fine playing - thanks so much for posting this! I've got a reissue Tele Deluxe (the ugly duckling of the Tele family) and I can't get enough of that fat, twangy tone. I've got family in Alabama and if I'm ever down that way again I'd love to pick a little with you. All the best!

    -Nick

  • @urbananick

Thanks for your kind comments. The old Tele Deluxe is a great guitar indeed.

    Larry

  • Sounds like something that Elvis would have used.

  • @metalbornmetalbred

James Burton, Elvis' guitarist, did play this lead on Merle Haggard's record.

  • Great picking!!! Love the "facial expressions" too!! Great stuff!!

  • @Kenny12554

  • @jpipoto

Not to worry....it is two cables. (-:

    Larry

  • Hey Larry...nice work. My uncle learned to play guitar with a childhood friend of his...that childhood friend was Roy Nichols. I've heard some great stories over the years. I live in Central Valley, California, a lot of pickers through here over the years. Sounds good Larry, thanks for sharing!

  • @Dinkeycreek

Thanks for your kind comments and for sharing a great memory. Roy was one of the greats.

    Larry

  • larry, thank you for the fine guitar picken. it was sooo smoooth i can't tell you how great it was. i know you've been asked before but could you show us how its played, i've listened and listened and still can't nail it just right.

    thanks jerry

next time someone tells you how good the guitar sounds send them a picture of it and ask them "how does it sounds now?"

  • @langlefam Thanks so much. I would like to do

an instructional video sometime soon. This song

is an A7 position, with top A and E open. The four

note A7 is repeated at the D and E positions

up the neck, covering low E string with the thumb.

    Larry

  • Enjoyed. Thank you. Liked your expressions too - you put a lot of meaning into it. Gwen

  • @cadjunk

Thanks Gwen. I do believe you have to feel the music you play. Come again.

    Larry

  • Love those Tele Deluxe rigs with the strat headstock.. Love to hear you play.//Phil

  • @PhilCLG4

It is a good old guitar. Plays great.

    Thanks for your kind comment.

    Larry

  • Hey Larry,

Great picking, I just learned this song the other day. I have the same guitar, beautiful piece of instrument for sure. And I agree, it's great, but I play my strat more too... Keep jammin!

    Adam

  • @goblesqb7

Thanks ! I play every day and never cease to be

    excited about it.

    Larry

  • Very fine playing. Your picking style is more than excellent. I've been thinking about getting one of those '72 Telecasters myself. I really love the Wide Range Humbuckers.

    5 stars for excellent playing!

  • @SoerenDKK

Thank you ! The old Tele does have a wide range

of tonal possibilities. But, I still play my Strat more.....

    Larry

  • Great job, Sounds like you have been at the guitar for sometime. I like your style, nice and smootttttttttttth. Thanks for sharing

  • @lutherluke

I started playing more than 50 years ago. I have

never not loved pickin.' Thanks !

    Larry

  • That is some sweet pickin. It would be great if you made video of how to play the riff note for note close up in slow motion. I play this song but can't get thr riff like that.

  • @rondahl1

Thanks my friend. I have not done any

instructional uploads but it is an interesting

    idea. Thanks.

    Larry

  • Loved this one tooo...!!!

  • 5 plus 5 stars

  • I am seeing stars. Thanks so much !

    Larry

  • explain please, what scale u r using to play tat lick?

  • I play around chord forms vs scales. This song

is in A7, fifth fret, top A and E open. Hope this helps.

    Larry

  • nice job sir i sent you a video response of one of my favorite Merle Haggard song my poor imitation/tribute to Hag

  • Thanks for the video and your kind comments.

    Larry

  • that is a cool looking old tele. I have an older Jap made one and I just bought a Fender Deluxe Nashville Tele..the Mexican made one with a strat pick up in the middle. I really like it. Plays great and 5 position switch. I can play country or rock. Very versatile.

  • Sweet. You are the man. Thanks for posting. I have been getting into teles lately. Have you always played with a thumbpick?? My old guitar teacher was a Johnny Winter nut and ALWAYS played with one. You both make it look easy.

  • Thanks my friend. I have used the thumb pick

exclusively at least 30 years. Enjoy the Teles.

  • Thanks for the visit and comments.

    Larry

  • Very good!!!

Plus the added humor of playing in the bedroom, like a teenager...

  • I seem to do my best work in this room. (-;

    Larry

  • the playing is great , the faces even greater !!!

  • Thank you ! (-:

  • nice,im saving some bucks to buy a vintage tele,but reissue.felicidades amigo.

  • nice and clean tone what year is that beuty tele...greeting´s from tijuana mexico amigo

  • The Tele Deluxe is a 1973 model.

    Thanks amigo from Mexico.

  • I believe the Tele is a 1973. I got it in '81.

  • Desde Argentina, (from argentina) five stars, excelente!!! gracias por tan beauty melodía.

    F.

  • Gracias Amigo. I hope to see Argentina

    one day.

    Larry

  • Such sweet tone (:

Thanks for sharing such Great playing ; )

  • I appreciate your kind comments.

    Larry

  • Go over and check out TDPRI

    all telecaster site.

Players from all over the world.

Great site, and no, I don't work for them.

  • I like :D

  • Thanks ! No greater passion than love...no greater love than music...no greater music than guitar.

    Larry

  • Great tone. Just goes to show that even with humbuckers a Tele will twang!!

  • This song lead was made for Tele twang.

    Thanks for the listen.

    Larry

  • hey from france, I've never tried plugging my guitar directly into a wall socket. do you get a better sound?

  • It's a "trick of the eye" of course. Thanks for the visit !

    Larry

  • That's nice. Is that an original Tele or re-issue?

  • It is an original Tele Deluxe. Thanks for the visit and comment.

    Larry

  • I love it! Best version I've heard! That's a beautiful Strat! I play a Telecaster!

    Great pickin'

    5 stars!

    ~Zach

  • Thanks so much. My guitar is a Tele, too...

a Tele Deluxe. I think my heart is in Strats though.

    Larry

  • Oh! Duh! I thought it was a Strat but i guess my eyes deceived me. I like Tele Duluxe's. They are awesome. Great sound aswell.

    ~Zach

  • Nice!!!

  • Played like a true workin man who might know a lil something about hard times. Good job, thanks for posting.

  • I did "keep on workin'." Drank a little beer, too.(-;

    Larry

  • Hey.

Fabulous tone! What amp are you using?

  • Thanks ! The amp is by Kustom, with an added

    digital delay.

  • Man, that is great... great stuff.

  • My gratitude to you !

    Larry

  • lovely stuff !!

  • And thank you kindly !

    Larry

  • Beautiful playing and beautiful guitar. I want that alder body-single-coil twang.

  • I like twang too....clean twang.

    Thanks for the visit.

    Larry

  • You did yourself proud, job well done.THANKS...

  • And thank you also !!

    Larry

  • wow, what a great guitarist.

  • And what a nice compliment ! Thank you !

    Larry

  • Sounds great! Is that a strat neck on your tele?

  • Thank you ! Not sure about the neck...it is an

    unaltered 70's era Tele Deluxe.

  • Fender used those headstocks on the Tele Delux for a while in the 70's, so it's most likely factory-origingal that way. Nice playing!

  • Very Good, Renald

    Have you see my vidéos.

IT is an old Télé w Humberker Pick-up..

    ******

  • I have just viewed your work. Excellent !

The guitar has a great sound, too !

    Larry

  • What a great sound. I am a tone freak so when i hear guitars that sound like this it makes my day. Wahtever you do don't ever get rid of that one. I have had many over the years but have never held on to them. Learn from my mistakes. Some are worth thousands now.....man i'm gonna be sick. Nice job

  • This guitar does well with digital delay and a little

echo. Tone does have to be "just right."

    Larry

  • you're awesome!

  • Real cool!

I admire how you pick the rhythm while accenting the leads.

I admire Chet Atkins too. Look for Chester and Lester, 1975 Grammy winner. It's just a gas listening to the counterpoint between Chet (smooth and melodic) and Les (hyperactive) and they really sound just like they're pickin' and grinnin' like buddies.

"Hey Paul? See that red light? That means we're on the air..........."

  • Seriously impressive! I'm gettin' that guitar very soon. Can't wait!

  • congratulation

  • that was great

  • Thank you !

  • You make it look so easy. Are there any kids around that you have inspired to play guitar? I wish I was around to play bass for ya. I don't suppose you live in SW Michigan by any chance?

    Birdsong player.

    Kalamazoo

  • Thanks so much. My son plays....but a way

different style. We are in Alabama. Thanks

    for the visit !

  • Yes, the tele deuxe had a strat head. I have one too.

  • You should do a father/son jam and upload it!

  • Nice job! Say, that's a strange looking Telecaster. Hybrid of some sort?

  • It is a Tele Deluxe right from the box. !970's era.

    Thanks !

  • That was great! Must admit I've never heard the original but I like Albert Cummings version a lot. Nice job!

  • Thanks so much. Diamond Rio has a great cover

also. Their guitarist is a fav of mine.

  • Oops... The lead on "Working Man Blues" was played by James Burton.

I still think Roy Nichols had a better tone though.

  • You are correct. I need to update my intro.

  • Very nice!

    Cheers from Brazil!

  • the tele deluxe has a strat head?

  • Yes.

  • Great!

  • Very nicely done.

  • Thank you Montana Fiddler

  • Hey man! What's up? What amp are you using? I like your sound! Thanks : )

  • It is a Kustom amp, using digital delay.

    Thanks.
