  • this is so stupid.

  • Uh excuse me, have they never seen Joyce DiDonato? Or Danielle de Niese? As an American, this interview is embarrassing. Opera is and always has been cool in my eyes.

  • Una reina.

  • "Cool-ish"? "Fat Viking Lady's"? Am I the only one who doesn't think of that?????Opera is a beauty that touches the soul.

  • Oh god, please stop blowing this bitch up. She is NOT like the classics. Just another attention w hore.

  • Anna is my hero. she has inspired me to pursue my own dream of one day being a world famous opera singer. its crazy i know... but if she did it in those circumstances then im sure i can do it as well. Anna u r amazing and i love u so much for never giving up =) you are my inspiration.

  • The Madonna of Moscow?

  • Perhaps this woman should speak for herself as that is not the opinion I nor most regular opera goers have of opera sopranos.

  • Audrey Hepburn? Please dont make me laugh Anna Netrobko is so much more beautiful that it is not even worth comparing them but I guess there is no accounting for taste

  • Please! People. All of us Americans are not this stupid. Please don't think we are

  • @rayclentchris I know you are not I spent a lot of time in America and I also know this was made for those people who probably read tabloid newspapers

  • Nonsense blathering interview. She's cute.

As far as attractiveness What about Anna Moffo, young Rise Stevens, Roberta Peters, Dorothy Kirsten, Blanche Thebom, even going way back Lina Cavalieri, Geraldine Farrar, Rosa Ponselle, or today Fleming was/is quite attractive. List is endless. People who think opera singers are or need to be fat and ugly are ignorant and opera doesn't need to be made 'cool.' That attitude leads to ridiculous 'modern' stagings and prioritizing looks over voice.

  • I love her. Her powerful voice and stage presence got me into Opera

  • "STEREOTAPE" 0:11

  • I think that she's one of the most talented opera singers today.

  • Pretty!

  • She's so pretty and sings very well, an example for new generations

  • No other word but wonderful!

  • UUUMMMM, we're not DESPERATE for new people, there is an ever-growing following of avid fans as well as performers, which has never been an issue.

  • What's with the lame and outdated stereotypes about opera singers? There are some who look like movie stars and some who don't. There are some who are very big, and some who are thin. Who cares? Size and image only really matter in certain repertoire. An obese Violetta might be strange, but no one will bat an eyebrow over a rotund Azucena. If they can sing and act I don't care what they look like, and there are far better singers than Anna. You can't see their faces in the opera house anyway.

  • OMG HOW STUPID AND IGNORANT THEY ARE, HOW EMBARRASSING =S

  • She is really inspiring!

  • She looks like Audrey Hepburn!!! Are you kidding?!?! FFS!

  • A typical stupid American interview. I am sure that Anna thinks so as well. And yes there are so many beautiful singers.

  • @Whistlejocket like Angela Gheorhgiu,Renee Fleming,Kiri Te Kanawa amongst others

  • @Whistlejocket I agree with you. Opera was not made for americans . Anna is an angel. her voice is the best.

  • Успокойтесь Анна русская. Казачка, да. Но казаки это этническая группа русских. Так что она русская россиянка.

  • Moffo was the ultimate diva, Netrebok isn`t even near, because her technique isn`t that great.

  • Ugh some opera fans are such snobs. I think its great opera is being thrust into the 21st century. We need opera stars like Fleming and Netrebko to introduce the beauty of opera to the masses. I'm all for making art accessible, even if people get their first taste of it on Good Morning America.

  • hahaha, she's so funny :)

    like her a lot.

and btw opera can be modernized in really good way - just see Carmen with Elina Garanca and you'll know what I mean

  • Opera needs to stay old fashioned to an extent! Why turn it into the same kind of thing as...idk...pop! give me a break

  • Ugh! Please! Opera's becoming more like main stream, its too superficial.

  • How embarrassing!

  • i love anna,,,,,,

  • Yeah the journalist was absolutely offensive.

  • Sexy opera singers besides Anna (and there are a ton) - Fleming, Persson, de Niese, Callas, Moffo, Petibon, della Casa, Dessay, Garanca, Te Kanawa, DiDonato, Damrau, Gheorghiu, Tebaldi, need I continue? These are all the cream of the crop in terms of both beauty and singing. Of course, Anna tops this list as the loveliest of them all, and what a voice! Who could forget her Violetta, or Lucia, or Mimi, or Manon, or the countless Prokofiev and Bellini roles she made her own?

  • This segment is so disrespectful. "The new face of opera-- oh, by the way, she can, like, sing." A voice that can break glass? The Mythbusters can break glass. If I were Ms. Netrebko I would have felt a fool after seeing how they twisted her words into cliches.

  • This model like guy saying Il Puritani is soooooo funny :)))

  • "Fat ladies" omg, that is so rude.. :S As if everyone pictures fat ladies? What the.. And as if opera is about the weight of the sopranos.. Clearly good morning america is uneducated. This was so awkward to watch !

  • wtf hey are not desperate!!!! thats so stupid! im 13 years old an im watching opera, not because they're "desperate" but because I like opera!!!!

  • I think that she is very good, and she does have a lot of envy people around her.

That's the nature of a business and she is a very good bunny too.

  • How about Anna Moffo, Tebaldi and many other very attractive female opera singers. Leontyne Price is another, in fact I can think of many beautiful women with fine voices while very few hefty ladies come to mind.

Opera is musical drama. When there is a comically fat tenor or soprano it destroys the magic of the dramatic moment.

  • Yes, the opera industry is sooo desperate.. come on! even certain metal bands have an opera singer as the main vocalist! how is that not cool?

  • What is she cooking, and how do you make it? I want to try that.

  • @Polarcupcheck It`s easily!) * 1 cup all-purpose flour * 2 tablespoons sugar * 2 teaspoons baking powder * 1/2 teaspoon salt * 1 large egg, slightly beaten * 2 tablespoons vegetable oil * milk, just enough to make pourable batter

    Preparation:

Combine dry ingredients. Stir in egg, oil, and enough milk for batter to pour easily. Mix lightly to blend. Cook pancakes on a hot, well greased griddle. This recipe for pancakes makes 2 to 3 servings.

    приятного аппетита!))

  • @ankapmt I found that, too. They say take the pancake, put in filler, and fold. I just don't know what is the popular, or traditional filler is know.

  • What a moronic broadcast

  • What a bullshit! Russians NEVER say "na zdarovie" before drinking vodka. Anya only did so to please that journalist and not to embarass her and people who watch this program on TV and think in Russia everybody does. Phrase said by Anya means "to your health" or "for your health" and is used like a response to a child who says to a grown-up "thank you" for some sweets or another tasty food. NOBODY says it with a glass of vodka in their hands. Don't be stupid and never do such a foolish mistake!

  • Holy ass. She is 35. Appart fom my previous statement, I am at a loss for words.

  • haha american 'journalists', what idiots. i'd be so embarrassed to be them.

  • Спасибо!!! Красавица! Поет прекрасно!!! Оперные "кошелки" не простят ей этого новшества, призабыли Марию Каллас, так же стройную и красивую.

  • wow these reportes are retarded!

  • @ohbelamusic Exactly!

  • She is the greatest, this lady... What she has made me feel, nobody else...

  • Netrebko is the best soprano ever! Her voice, amazing acting, and beauty can't be matched.

  • @teleblanx well... surely you can't be serious. Not the best.

  • @teleblanx The best?... Oh poor Opera Lirica...

  • This interview is like sending a monkey to interview Stephen Hawking. The woman pretending to be a "journalist" doesn't even have the foggiest idea about Opera.

Obviously, such astounding ignorance can only be callously displayed by an American because she knows her target audience is definitely much more stupid that she is.

And yes, Opera is desperate, desperately trying to get rid of you philistines.

  • @pm2424

Stupid Americans. That's a new one.

  • Comment removed

  • Brava La Netrebko!

  • Do you have like this documentary of Fleming?

  • Thanks for posting this video!

  • These reporters must live under a rock, they are about 100 years behind! Nobody thinks of fat, ugly people in viking costumes when they think of opera singers! It's not Anna Netrebko who shattered that old stereotype of opera singers. Rosa Ponselle, Maria Callas, and Renata Tibaldi were all beautiful women who sang opera several decades before Anna.

Obviously they know NOTHING about opera!

  • @zucchini2007 So true. Today's singers - sopranos like Renee Fleming, Anja Harteros, Sondra Radvanovsky, Diana Damrau etc., mezzos - Elina Garanca, Jennifer Larmore, Denyce Graves, Joyce diDonato, etc. ; tenors -Piotr Beczala, Jonas Kaufmann, Juan-Diego Florez; so many others are very good-looking people. When they talk about people in viking costumes, they think about Wagnerian sopranos, but Kirstin Flagstad was quite good looking. But really, they should look at the Met's flyer.

  • @jewelmarkess Do you know how much is a ticket for the Met? I'd love to go see any performance at the Met someday!

  • @zucchini2007 The price range is $25 - $420 next year. But they also sell discount "rush" tickets for weakday evening performances where they reserve 200 expensive orchestra seats and sell them for $20 each before the performance to first people in line. There are also HD broadcasts to movie theaters all over the US, but it's not the same as live performance. BTW - I sent you a couple of related videos, did you see them? I found several more of those if you are interested).

  • How embarrassing. There are so many pretty opera singers!

  • @thedridis there's nothing I could think of.

  • @thedridis seriously, did they never see Elizabeth Schwarzkoff?

  • Hmmm. Seems like it's the journalists who are behind the times.

  • this makes me angry

  • so ignorant. opera is NOT for fat ugly singers...

  • What fucking morons these "journalists" are. Its like they just skimmed Wikipedia before making segment.

  • I say goodbye to these pages of Anna Netrebko. I am not available right now, But I thank you for caring enough to write and reply . I am making some changes in my life. Please leave a message if so you wish it. If I do Not return your message, you are one of those changes.

  • Anna Netrebko by THE LOVE OF GOD, AND NOT ALREADY Allows maa10able, 09avenger, ad80ad, spqrmor and others, will them CONTINUE with your STUPID mantra , BECAUSE AGAIN come back "you-know-who."

In the dictionary there is one word: Masochism.

  • More opera singers should be interviewed on TV.

  • @MsMollusk they are! just not on the US of course!

  • This is hilarious! Was this programme intended for ten-year-olds?

  • Quite magnificent!

  • anna netrebko poetry in motion.....nuff said!!

  • she seems to be a sweet person...i like her a lot=)

  • @HateNetrebko

What's the big deal, mate? You may not like her voice, look, personnality or God knows what, that's your right but, let me ask you this: Why are you so mad, so hateful and disgraceful about her? What force drives you to write loads of posts all around youtube simply to insult this woman? Are you mentally ill?

Are you an opera singer yourself, got rejected in audition and is jealous because she's hot and you think that's why she got the job?

Why don't you stop listening to her?

  • @HateNetrebko wow jealous freak, if u know you're not a fan of her which is fine, then why are you here wasting your time then. there is a simple way just stay away from her videos then simple.

  • she isnt coming from moscow! wtf

  • I wish more musicians could be as humble as she.

  • What opera is featured from 2:41 to 2:43?

  • Verdi "Traviatta"

  • Comment removed

  • Mainstream American media is geared towards the illiterate. It should not be over-analyzed.

I am relatively young (30) and I am a new fan of opera, which I consider to be a true art. The future of opera is bright. Besides, I don't think opera was ever 'music for the masses'.

  • the opera industry is NOT desperate. what a load of crap. Journalists really talk such rubbish. The notion of a fat lady singing opera was overturned well over 40 years ago when maria callas came to international fame as a svelte diva. They need to do more research.

Anna was adorable here, she's so russian!

  • @jrr1234567890 Even before Callas, there was Rosa Ponselle. And she was a beautiful woman, certainly no ugly, fat lady in a viking costume!

  • @jrr1234567890 be real it's very hard to compete specially with hip pop, pop and rock on top in the music industry. Specially here in the US. I don't know that many people if any that are even into Opera. I, on the other hand am a sucker for it :)

  • @Joskun opera isn't trying to compete with mainstream music, that's a false comparison. Opera, for better or for worse, has always catered for the privileged few, the elite of society. It originated as a form of entertainment for royal courts in italy during the renaissance.

  • @jrr1234567890 Totally agree!

  • @jrr1234567890 true, for an exemple, write this in youtube and you will find stefania singing il brindisi: Libiamo Ne' Lieti Calici, "La Traviata"

    she is so gorgeus

  • @jrr1234567890 they really do need to do more research.. opera industry "desperate" indeed.... it has been me and others like me who are 'desperate' to get tickets to sold out performances all over the world.

I remember literally crying outside the Vienne Stads Opera because I could not get one single ticket for the whole week that I was in Vienna !!

  • @jrr1234567890 True, but it is the job of a journalist to re-invent the wheel. It's worse in politics...

  • @jrr1234567890 actually she isnt russian

  • @06ladi are you sure?

  • @ilovemeganekko3 yeah she is ethnic ukrainian,(even her face proves it,typical)

ukraine has the best voices, thats really true

  • @06ladi You're definitely on drugs

  • @tenor220 and you are definitely stupid.drugs??

She is from Krasnodar, where ethnic ukrainians live

she even sing ukrainian folk songs with her friends and family, soo

  • @06ladi You're not even intelligent enough to understand why I called you an idiot. That speaks volumes in and of itself.

  • @tenor220 that is very intelligent to call a young woman an idiot.thank you tenor220, you are a real geltleman!

and very very intelligent,oh intelligent tell me please, why am i so stupid?explain, cause i dont understand....and thats makes me so sad...hmhmhm

  • @06ladi Успокойся, Нетребко - казачка, а не украинка. А это не одно и то же.

  • @barsicat donskie kasaki eto bivshie saporoghskie kasaki, kotorie pereselilis tuda mnogo let nasad.v podtverghdenie - hor donskih kasakov poyut pesni na ukrainskom yasike :-P

  • @06ladi Нетребко - кубанская казачка!!! А потом, Вы ее или ее родителей лично знаете, чтобы утверждать, кто она по происхождению?

  • @barsicat ta da ta da ta da ta da

  • @barsicat ta da ta da ta da ta da tak kak ona v vene ghivet, ona navernoe avstrijka

  • @06ladi Смешно.

  • @barsicat ya staralas

  • @jrr1234567890

well Callas, Schwarzkopf, Hallstein, Mofo, Tebaldi and a few other beautiful ladies were actually the exception I think. Most operatic singers do not look that well basically because if such vocal talent is rare, the combination with another one (physical beauty) is even rarer. Let alone the rest of the talents (acting skills, actually high IQ etc)

  • so they are trying to lure in the younger audience by having a hot lady perform?

Nothing against Anna, I like her, not a huge fan but that seems extremely shallow. I remember when I was 16 and I listened to Callas, Anderson, Ferrier, Damrau, Moffo and the likes and It was the beauty of their vocals that attracted me, not physical appearance.

To me, seems a little silly.

  • Do you prefer if the singers on stage simply wore Jeans and Birkenstocks and sang next to dumpsters in an alley? Of course presentation is important. If she can sing well AND is beautiful, all the better!

  • To be honest, I wouldn't care if Netrebko wore jeans and a t shirt. It's nice to see and hear a performance but for me, what I hear is a lot more important than to what some lady is wearing. Albeit I would be worried if she was singing behind a dumpster, sounds a little shady.

  • What a vulgar introduction - WOW!!!

  • well said in all posts loismustdie26! couldn't agree more.

  • Yes plesase tell me what is diffrence in Anna Netrebko And Katherina Jerkins voice and how they have got good job?

  • what is diffrents to Katherina Jenkins and Anna Netrebko?

  • Anna is a very beautiful, accomplished opera singer with an amazing voice and as well, dramatic actor and dancer. (To me anyway.) Jenkins is very good but not on the same level, yet.

  • they both have breasts they don't mind showing off, but neither of them have the emotion needed to keep opera alive. if all opera is turning into is just sex, than count me out. these new singers have no idea what the term artistry means and it sickens me to see where opera is plummeting. and how eagerly people are following it there.

Please bring back artists, show me a woman who can sing and bring me to tears, not raise a tent in my pants.

  • @Loismustdie26 - You have got to be kidding. Obviously, you haven't watched many of Anna's videos. She is an exceptional dramatic opera singer, and singing is only one of her many talents, not to mention her beauty. : )

  • I've listened to a lot of her videos, and was actually not disappointed wither her Lucia at the met last year, however, everything else she has done is so bad I can't begin to like her.

Sure her voice has an amazing timber to it, it is pure, incredibly well trained, succinct, and powerful. It's a gorgeous voice, but a voice with no artistry. She hits all the notes, but hits every one with all she has, no variation, and it makes for very bland (and therefore hard to stomach) listening.

  • Anna is quite adorable. I love this interview of her.

  • no doubt she's well poised, classy, and clearly a nice woman, I'm rallying against this sex-ization (at the helm of which is Netrebko and Peter Gleb) of opera at the detriment of its musical integrity.

People are picking up on it all over the world, opera is no longer this stuffy hoity toity institution. but people are so excited about making opera sexy that they seem to be missing the point. it's about the music not about the bust line of the soprano.

I'm not moved any more, and I miss that.

  • Anna has a lovely, positive and fun personality. She really shines in this interview which shows her more natural side. : ).

  • @Loismustdie26 - if you want to complain about entertainers, you can begin with Adam whatshisname. You would be highly justified my friend.

  • What goes on outside the opera world, however silly, is hardly the point. My thoughts on Adam Lambert are really irrelevant.

There's been this big push to get people interested in opera who weren't before. and while that's a wonderful goal, i think everyone can enjoy opera, they're going about it in a bad way.

If you want people to enjoy opera as it was meant to be enjoyed, teach them how to enjoy the music, don't just give them busty females who can't sing like the greats can.

  • Comment removed

  • Are you asking what differentiates their voices, as in you can't hear the difference? or as in how are either of them getting work because they're both so bad, because I have an answer to each.

  • wtf? elina garanca is beautiful and talented too. shes better that anna and she can sing mezzo. anna netrebko is completely overrated.

  • What? Thanks to her? What??? Why does he compare dramatic opera singer to Anna.

This interviewer does not know he saying !!! Anna would not be singing with horns on her head that is for the big voices.

He need to apologize for saying big voiced singers FAT! Anna has beautiful voice it is lyric nanan dramatic!

  • I admit she has a good voice and beautiful to look at , but that is her and opera does not have to change!! . I like the fat ones too Men and women !!! So dont get ride of those beautiful voices. I think it is shallow to say that the singers have to be like her. She is her own and she is lucky to have a nice package. Still Let the Fat lady and men sing !

  • Yes, her technique is not perfect. But let me tell you that I'm an opera lover and I know about this stuff. Anna is extremely good, she is amazing, a goddess!.

If you want to hear a real vocal disaster listen to Katherine Jenkins. Her voice is very unpleasant to the ears, even she pose as the pioneer of classical crossover, while the artist who created this genre is british diva Sarah Brightman.

  • Cant see Jenkins as a vocal disaster, as she doing very comfortably in her life and i wish to have disaster like she ve got! Do like Sharah Brightman as well

  • MrWardie44

Annanetrebkobasher means Maria Callas the most overrated singer for all the times!!!

Forgive him.....SHE is an JEALOUS IDIOT!!

  • To annanetrebkobasher, please check out Ms Netrebko singing O mio babbino caro and just listen, rather than watching. Her technique in singing all the higher notes in this aria is the best that I have heard during many years as an opera lover. If you still don't like her singing after watching that video, perhaps you should go back to pop.

  • Most overrated opera singer in history.

  • I agree but do I agree so much that I'd make a youtube account just to comment on a video of her being interviewed on some retarded morning show? Probably not.

  • hay people i study in the same college that she did =)and im a tenor

  • Derevnya!

  • She has very good voice, not the best, but she's very, very good. And there is her beaty . You don't have to write things that you all write about her. It's not nice!!!! Anna rules!!!

  • What y mean not the best!? Opera is not only vocal, coloratura and other technique things! Nowdays opera it is also a spectacle, a sight wich at last attracts young people to the opera art and this very good! To critisize is always easier! As to me I adore croatian singer Dubravca Zubovich but I don't compare and don't critisize anybody. regards

  • She is always making a mistake of raising her larynx and that diminishes the color of her timbre. The correct technique is to sing with a low larynx and open throat.

  • Now I understand what she is just PR-project, but no way a singer. All that bullshit what she said about vodka, it's absolutely false and russian never say tost "na zdorovie". What a fool... An attractive fool.

  • She is an amazing person and a great soprano!

  • she is a blip

  • she´s hot....and sings horrible...

  • She has a dynamic range of a popera singer, no depth, no variety of tones, monotonous, shallow, very poor enunciation of the lyrics and no precise control of dynamics.

  • Come on! If Callas hadn't lost weight and hadn't made a difference in acting, all those singers would still care little about looks. And I don't agree that netrebko is sooo beautiful and sexy. Fifty years ago, she may have been the only one. But nowadays most of them are beautiful AND thin AND good actresses AND good voices.

  • Anna Moffo was the most beautiful soprano in her time. She sung with Callas.

  • Agree! It was real too!

  • She's famous because she's beautiful. Her voice needs more training.

  • she's beautiful

  • WTF A MAKEOVER? SHE MURDERED OPERA.

  • True.
