What this socialist bastard from the great state of child molesters fails to tell you is that his 40,000,000 uninsured includes illegal aliens and citizens that CHOOSE not to buy health coverage. After you take out the bullshit, that leaves roughly 10 million people without coverage. He is an avowed socialist, firmly against the American way of life. He needs to honor this country with a contribution such as Ted Kennedy offered a few weeks ago... And the sooner the better.
Dashdouche...So let me get this right...You think its good that we pay 6,000 per capita for healthcare compared to 3,000 in Canada - that 40,000,000 uninsured going to ER's costing even more money is grand, oh thats rights, its 10,000,000 my mistake - that its heavenly that we allow any Citizen, our fellow Americans and countryman pay higher and higher premiums to support 30% admin costs with less and less payouts oh and if they failed to report to be denied - Yes man!, treat others as yourself!
Single Payer was killed. The Public Option has just been killed. The insurance companies plan worked: they scared Americans with a smear campaign and paid thugs at Town Hall meetings to scream down the speakers, and they poured millions of dollars into Democrat Congressmen's pockets, to bribe them into switching sides.
The American voter is too apathetic to make a phone call to their Senator regarding this con job: And so, we deserve what we get; to be enslaved to our insurance company.
I disagree. The Insurance companies may have scared a few citizens, but most of them still favor a public option. The objective was never to build a true public consensus against the public option. That would be impossible. The point was as you said, "to bribe [the Democrats] into switching sides."
You see, in America, it really isn't important to win vast public support as most realize that the system is already not working for them. That is why voters are apathetic. But we can change things.

Well, then let's be thankful that Congress is not proposing government-run health care, except as one option for low-income earners. I'm glad that I'll be able to select from a variety of private insurers. And I'm especially glad that I will not be denied due to preexisting conditions.
Dept. of Energy was created During the Carter Admin. to LESSON our dependance on foreign oil.
32 years later, The Dept. of Energys budget is 24 Billion/year. It has 16,000 employees + 100,000 contract employees with more armed agents than any other Federal Dept. including the FBI!
Have we lessoned our dependance on foreign oil? No.
Do you really want this government to run health care?
That's a ridiculously flawed statement. The Govt can't control the CONSUMPTION of petroleum all they can do is monitor it and react. We live in a very progressive industrial society and on top of that we thrive on vain self image insisting on driving gas guzzling SUV's and invest in high petroleum consumption machinery to counter labor costs let alone the populist situation is becoming unmanageable. That was a futile attack on the Dems as if they're the only ones hiring and firing in that dept.
WHat? Seriously this is an example of extreme government waste.. this is what the government is good at.. Waste.. I wasn't attacking the dems.. I'm attacking politics and greed. I don't trust this government.. call me cynical for pointing out one example out of a hundred.
You are right about that.. that's why jefferson wrote this...
"I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around [the banks] will deprive the people of all property until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered. "
Why would the government be "more efficient" ? It never is. It always costs 2-3 times what they think it will cost. Also, if insurance companies have to cover everyone, the cost will go up. I want these things addresses. And, I want TORT addressed.
Way to go Mr.Stand...... Good old fear mongering. Now this is the American way.
Forget facts, just spew what sounds like it will get a reaction, no need to back up your claims, just call people crazy or nuts for not agreeing with you and surely some sheep will follow.
Keep fighting the good fight against truth and facts. Maybe Fox news will notice your "good work" and offer you a job.
i'm one of those people who will be eternally left out. i must have Jesus Karma. I got hurt on the job and it way my bad fortune to have been ensured by [liberty mutual] who just hired some lawyers and f***ed me over. It doesn't matter what you pass; i will not benefit. i'll live until croaking day, and i will never had had insurance. Probably i'll die of hypothermia under a bridge somewhere, some cold winter. May insurance companies suffer in the pits of hell for eternity. Yay.
When I hear we would be share holders of the health care I have to laugh. You are the same ones that still think the Fed is still our gold and is part of the people. Who gets the shares are the private share holders of the Fed. Think about it, they yell over the CEO's making 3 mil a year but they will profit in the billions. Lasafair
Pretty much like all tax payers are shareholders in GM,AIG,ACORN,all the major banks in the USA,now a small shareholder in a oil company in Brazil. Two days after Obama got the extra $2 billion for cash for clunkers, he gave(not loaned) State-run Petrobras' $2billion in cash to help them drill offshore.
but yet says they ran out of money for the CARS program two days later.
People Obama is a liar and a thief to the American tax payer.
secretly amongst the big and midium sized employers groups that cover 60% or more of all Americans...they want single payer, or at least the public option health plan passed in Congress, so as to free up the Billlions of dollars that are tied up in employer provided health care plans now...so they can be more competitive in the free markets around the world with those private employers that have their own nationalized public health care plans that are already provided for their citizens.
The second thing that pisses me off is that they are trying to exclude themselves from being covered by this new health care plan. Why is that? Because they know it will suck. And do they deserve to have all these special benefits for the rest of their lives after only 4 years in office with continued non debateable raises. I don't think so.
Choice of doctor, choice of treatment, that is what single payer means. And it costs the tax payer less a year then the current system. They've framed the debate eschew. Ever wonder why most low income families all seem to want any kind of healthcare and the wealthy, who already afford healthcare and as much could afford to be denied, say the systems fine and we don't need reform? Probably not. The free market is not a place for our health it is a place for shoes and cars.
This stupid fuck talks about the Single Payer system. I've got a problem with this for two reasons. First of all, it would do away with Tricare which is the current Health Care Plan that covers retired military, something that we paid for and earned with over 20 years of service to the country.
What makes you think that you wouldn't be covered just as well under the Single Payer system, or that there couldn't be a place for Tricare in the Single Payer system.
And Sanders isn't a "stupid fuck", he is the smartest Senator and the one with the most integrity in the whole Senate.
The answer makes good sense to me. I like Sanders. It makes me angry when Sanders says the people in Congress don't have the political will to take on the private industry. What is wrong with the politicians? Don't they work for us?

Medicare/Medicaid waste $1 to every $3 it spends on fraud overpayments and administrative cost. Is that a plan worth expanding? No one has talked of fixing the system just throwing more money at a system that has failed. How about before we spend 1.6 trillion we repeal the regulations that have decreased competition. Put the health dollars in the hand of consumers. Just allowing purchasing accross state lines would give 17 million access to affordable care.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Of the 46 million, 10 mil are not U.S. citizens, 11 mill. choose not to buy insurance but can afford it, 10 mill qualify for a Gov. program but don't sign up. So spending 1.6 trillion for 5% of the population. That is real smart. I guess the Senator doesn't know that the single payer systems around the world are all fighting rising cost by rationing care. And he must not know we have the best performance and outcomes of all major disease of anywhere in th world. You get what you pay for.
Senator Sanders There is a plan "C". That's to allow insurance companies to cross state lines. There will be no competition if the governmnet is allowed their healthcare plan in all 50 states.
it still won't work if illegals are alowed to be covered in emergency room.
You ding dongs need to work on helping the whole country then work on health care. Guess you don't care you helped to put most of the non-covered out of work making them lose their healthcare.
Medicaid up 130 to 150%, its a broke bureaucratic black hole & you want to do what? The public option will be a more efficient government program, now theres an oxymoron. Single payer would provide comprehensive and cost effective HC. My father resided in the UK and the British NHS judged his illness as too expensive for an old man, very efficient. Medicare is working for seniors but it is also bankrupt and it cant be fixed. Your ideas do not stand up to common sense or logic.
Medicare is broke. Social security is broke. The system is broke. Government not the answer. Corporate healthcare not the answer. We are the ones who do the work of healthcare, the people. We are the Doctors and the nurses. But the Government ties our hands in helping each other with regulation. Think of how more Freedom could help solve the problem, think as if there were no regulation and large corporate healthcare. We tried to solve the small problem using gov in the 70's look what we got.
PressForFreedom There are thousands of American doctors and nurses for Single Payer. I do not know where you get your figures, however Single Payer works far better in all free Western Industrialized Nations. USA is the only "free" nation without Single Payer and we are rated 37 in overall healthcare by World Healthcare Organizaton, and France is number one.
What figures? I quoted no figures. My point is this government is not capable of running anything well. They just want more and more power and money, it's funny how they get you to beg for your own destruction.
So I suppose you don't drive and are never driven anywhere (as roads are provided and maintained by government, which is obviously incompetent). You probably also attended private school, not public. I'll also assume that you are also stabbed or shot on a fairly regular basis, since the judicial system sucks so much. I guess you live in a commune where you trade services and hunt/gather for you food, since the government prints money.
You're right, just because he's trying to improve the system, he's obviously against everything it stands for. Head-in-ass is not an argument, carryanation.
His comments clearly show that he cares for America and is doing what a true patriotic American would do. And, he is spot on about the problems with our health care industry.
You on the other hand appear to hate the values America was founded on which made it great. It seems to me you would rather see America be the USSR. What is it your looking for? A collapse due to excessive spending and borrowing? If that happens health insurance will be the least of our problems.
we also elected obama BECAUSE WE WANTED HEALTHCARE FOR ALL!!!HE IS DOING EXACTLY WHAT WE ELECTED HIM TO DO,,, THINK ABOUT IT HE RAN ON THIS HEALTHCARE FOR ALL PLATFORM,,AMERICA VOTED HIM IN THE LARGEST MANDATE IN 30 YEARS,,AMERICA WANTS THIS ,,,WE VOTED FOR IT,,THOSE THAT OPPOSE IT REPRESENT A FRINGE MINORITY VIEW,,,,
STEEEVVYZ Actually Obama is for HR3200 which is Public Option, however a growing number of Americans want Single Payer for all. Even though Single Payer was silenced during the hearings, Congressman Anthony Weiner managed to get HR676 ON THE TABLE on July 31! Single Payer will be allowed for debate and VOTE after the Congressional recess!!!
We cannot allow for mommy and daddy to take care of us forever but you want the fed to do this. I hear so many say to be responsible and vote healthcare. They are totally the opposite. You meant to say, stop trying to take responsibility for yourself and vote healthcare for someone else to be responsible for you. So stop teaching your kids to be responsible but rather ignorant and easy.
It was the Fed that killed the dollar not healthcare. This issue is taking you away for the real issues of the breach in our contract with the feds. The contract I am talking about is called the Constitution of the United States of America.
living outside the states for some time I have learned something by experience. What you pay for one aspirin there I get a whole days room if I had to. What you are paying for is the drug companies and insurance companies to profit.
Take it to the depth and you will see if the hospital took the responsibility to police itself better and not protect the doctors there would be higher standards which would lower malpractice and hence the cost of insurance.
The drug companies support the malpractice by drug before treatment or honest care. Make the hospital responsible and you will quickly see them rat on all the bad doctors. If they had to pay for their payoffs would find too costly.
whatever, there are some things we need to use local and state for yes, but only an idiot feels that if you need one you have to take all. All government business is not freedoms. You need your mommy and daddy to suck your thumb for you too?
Medicaid and the VA do work, and deliver medical care for less money and with much less bureaucratic overhead compared to the private system. Just imagine the disaster that privatizing Medicaid would be. Care to shop for grandpa's insurance in the for-profit system?
Here's what I don't get: why are so many other countries able to provide universal health care, but we can't? Taiwan modeled its universal health care after the US Medicare program. Why do I have to move there to qualify for it?
Good question. The answer is: they don't go on military adventures. I'm not for public health care, but would be more welcome to spend our money on health care than wars. We can't afford the warfare healthcare insanity. Think about it. In 10 years we will be spending 65% of our taxes on war and health. Insane.
midwestcharm You are not for public health care, but would welcome more money spent on healthcare than wars? Then think of this as a domestic war! For- profit "wealthfare" insurance corporations take lots of our money and won't cover us 100% when we are sick! Clearly for-profit insurance corporations are a domestic enemy against WE THE PEOPLE. Let's end this war against the people, end for-profit insurance and have Single Payer for all instead. Peace and health will be for all then!
If "for profit" is the problem. Convince evryone with health insurance to cancel their policies, so we are all uninsured. this would be more effective then thinking government is the answer. Let's not forget, there is alot of corruption in government too.
midwestcharm Yours is not a solution to the systemic problems with for-profit insurance. Many people are uninsured now because for-profits refuse to insure them or their prices are out of reach. Even the under-insured and insured cannot afford the out of pocket expenses because for-profits refuse to cover 100%, yet somehow for-profits manage humongous bonuses and dividends for their CEOS and stockholders. Single Payer would eliminate all that profit and put it all towards healthcare instead.

This is nonsense. Why even work? Drug dealers will get the same insurance as you? I got an idea, let's make paychecks a right because businesses shouldn't be the only ones to make alot of money
midwestcharm I see , Single Payer makes so much common sense you don't get it. Did it ever occur to you that you pay for drug dealer's children to go to school, etc? If everyone had healthcare , far less people would use illicit drugs and far less would be sold. You would rather spend your taxes on more prisons so that ONLY drug dealers can get guaranteed healthcare!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
On the contrary, health through an employer encentivizes people to work. Some offer better healthcare than others. It's up to the person to get dressed up and compete for the job that offers better healthcare. Yes, they wait 1 year to treat pre-existing conditions, but that is what we can fix not government control over all of it.
midwestcharm No, it's INCOME that is the incentive for people to work. It should not be up to an employer if you live or die or not in a free society! This is insanity, & contrary to the Constitution. People without a job do not have healthcare, so how does that help them "compete"? They grab the first job that will pay them INCOME. With Single Payer, your job "competition" scenario would actually happen, because people would no longer feel stuck in jobs with low income just to keep insurance.
midwestcharm So you don't give a damn about the average American, yet you have no problem paying for imprisoned drug dealers' guaranteed healthcare. You are giving people the incentive to COMMIT CRIMES!
Drug dealers can already go to the doctor if they make enough money from drugs. Hell, if they don't want to pay, they can just go to ER, and then we all pay for it, and we pay too much. A public option would cost half of what ER costs.
midwestcharm We have no power over corporations unless we are stockholders, and all they care about is profits over patients. When we vote in Single Payer, WE THE PEOPLE then have the power of patients over profits.
This is one of the more cogent arguments I've heard against US public health care.
But frankly, if my choice is between paying more taxes for government health care, or paying a corporation for my health care that is mandated to maximize its profits , I'll take the first option. It doesn't matter to me if I pay lower taxes if I'm paying exorbitant rates for my health insurance, and have to fight them to pay my claims.
I do agree with you, though: less warfare, more health care.
What your are choosing is to allow the government to control your most private and most sacred right as a human being, the care of your own health.
To transfer this power over yourself to the hands of the state for the sake of your convenience is to transfer the power over your children's lives to the state as well.
Anyone who wants to be more educated when it comes to the facts regarding health care please visit the comment section of my profile. There you will find lots of information and resources as well as ways in which you can get more involved.
A public option is what we need. Anything else will mean more of the same. Look we have public universities and private universities. The public ones were started to make college more affordable to more people. The public universities did NOT put the private universities out of business. Public colleges increased the number of educated people in the US. Today they all thrive. It can be the same with health care. Private health care companies will just have to learn to be more efficient.
I'm all for single payer but our Congress is owned by big corp. Never going to happen in America, not in my life time. So at the very least, we need a public option.
How about we have Congress create a plan for everyone including themselves. Give them a deadline and then take away their health plan until they fix the system. Hmm.
Brilliant! That's what I call an REAL incentive plan! Also, why in the hell are we even considering the private insurance companies? They've ripped off the system and sick for far too long. They're mercenary vultures feasting off the sick and suffering.
What about all the People in Tenn who were sprayed with MALATHION @ 7yrs Pd for by Federal Gov. I am not part of any kind of lawsuit ! I never even knew till last yr ! HELP TENNESSEE ! #HR676

Right now you are free to choose, if you opt for government run health care you will lose this freedom of choice.

1947classic 2 years ago
The second thing that pisses me off is that they are trying to exclude themselves from being covered by this new health care plan. Why is that? Because they know it will suck. And do they deserve to have all these special benefits for the rest of their lives after only 4 years in office with continued non debateable raises. I don't think so.
beachbum7706 2 years ago
Choice of doctor, choice of treatment, that is what single payer means. And it costs the tax payer less a year then the current system. They've framed the debate eschew. Ever wonder why most low income families all seem to want any kind of healthcare and the wealthy, who already afford healthcare and as much could afford to be denied, say the systems fine and we don't need reform? Probably not. The free market is not a place for our health it is a place for shoes and cars.

This stupid fuck talks about the Single Payer system. I've got a problem with this for two reasons. First of all, it would do away with Tricare which is the current Health Care Plan that covers retired military, something that we paid for and earned with over 20 years of service to the country.
beachbum7706 2 years ago
What makes you think that you wouldn't be covered just as well under the Single Payer system, or that there couldn't be a place for Tricare in the Single Payer system.

Single payer would provide comprehensive and cost effective HC. My father resided in the UK and the British NHS judged his illness as too expensive for an old man, very efficient. Medicare is working for seniors but it is also bankrupt and it cant be fixed. Your ideas do not stand up to common sense or logic.

living outside the states for some time I have learned something by experience. What you pay for one aspirin there I get a whole days room if I had to. What you are paying for is the drug companies and insurance companies to profit.
Sheeple102 2 years ago
Take it to the depth and you will see if the hospital took the responsibility to police itself better and not protect the doctors there would be higher standards which would lower malpractice and hence the cost of insurance.
Sheeple102 2 years ago
The drug companies support the malpractice by drug before treatment or honest care. Make the hospital responsible and you will quickly see them rat on all the bad doctors. If they had to pay for their payoffs would find too costly.

Insane.
midwestcharm 2 years ago
midwestcharm You are not for public health care, but would welcome more money spent on healthcare than wars? Then think of this as a domestic war! For- profit "wealthfare" insurance corporations take lots of our money and won't cover us 100% when we are sick! Clearly for-profit insurance corporations are a domestic enemy against WE THE PEOPLE. Let's end this war against the people, end for-profit insurance and have Single Payer for all instead. Peace and health will be for all then!
Yankhadenough 2 years ago 3
If "for profit" is the problem. Convince evryone with health insurance to cancel their policies, so we are all uninsured. this would be more effective then thinking government is the answer. Let's not forget, there is alot of corruption in government too.
midwestcharm 2 years ago
midwestcharm Yours is not a solution to the systemic problems with for-profit insurance.

On the contrary, health through an employer encentivizes people to work. Some offer better healthcare than others. It's up to the person to get dressed up and compete for the job that offers better healthcare. Yes, they wait 1 year to treat pre-existing conditions, but that is what we can fix not government control over all of it.
midwestcharm 2 years ago
midwestcharm No, it's INCOME that is the incentive for people to work.
Yankhadenough 2 years ago 5
midwestcharm So you don't give a damn about the average American, yet you have no problem paying for imprisoned drug dealers' guaranteed healthcare. You are giving people the incentive to COMMIT CRIMES!

No.
xgunnBlaze 2 years ago
Drug dealers can already go to the doctor if they make enough money from drugs. Hell, if they don't want to pay, they can just go to ER, and then we all pay for it, and we pay too much. A public option would cost half of what ER costs.
xgunnBlaze 2 years ago 4
And you can't get preventative care from an ER either, just wait for catastrophic illness to occur and then you're really in the shit.
The Public option, as sad a compromise as it is, is the best we can hope for for now.

You would NOT be a share holder, the Federal Reserve would be. You still think that is the same thing!
Sheeple102 2 years ago
This is one of the more cogent arguments I've heard against US public health care.
But frankly, if my choice is between paying more taxes for government health care, or paying a corporation for my health care that is mandated to maximize its profits , I'll take the first option. It doesn't matter to me if I pay lower taxes if I'm paying exorbitant rates for my health insurance, and have to fight them to pay my claims.
I do agree with you, though: less warfare, more health care.
scotchfaster 2 years ago 3
What your are choosing is to allow the government to control your most private and most sacred right as a human being, the care of your own health.
To transfer this power over yourself to the hands of the state for the sake of your convenience is to transfer the power over your children's lives to the state as well.
Freedom is always the best choice.
