The MK shaft is a composite with a dia of 1.13 inches. I am not sure what your intentions are so can't help much using this site with its limmited space for replys. I suggest you go to Winchuck River Store and E/M me there. Just address your message to Jim and I will get back to you. Thanks for your interest....Jim
The motor is a Minnkota Endura 40 lb thrust, available at wallmart and other stores. It has been modified for this boat. The motor tilts up from verticle to horizontal (out of the water). You can then paddle through shallow water that is 6 or more inches deep. Check out the video "searching for dead fred". This soon to be released 12 foot boat is more suitable for your handicap. It uses the same motor and controls, but has more room.
We use a 40 lb thrust motor, but the 36 will work just as well. The motor is a modified MK Edura 40. The plans give details on how to make the mods. The motor controller (proprietary) provides a continuously variable throttle and gives more than twice the run time on the battery compared to the stock MK40.
The boat weighs 55-60 lbs w/o battery and motor. These are installed when boat is at the water and require no tools. Battery will run at 3 mph for about 8 hours. Top speed 4.5 mph. No retrofit to existing kayaks planned. Check KingfisherElectricBoats website for more info..
hi lynette this is suzie, or nuwzud, i love your invention , its great, i see alot of people have been looking at your video, how cool, and you have a lot of comments, kisses and hugs, you look great enjoying your kayak,
Yes! It works great with paddles. The reason we didn't show that is we wanted to show the hands-free capability. We'll produce another video with the paddle soon. Thanks!
We are in the process of putting together a website and more videos. Our primary intent is to sell this as a full kit (all parts precut, components, drawings & instructions), however we will build-to-suit if necessary (and it's more expensive that way, naturally).
The steering is done through a foot-pedal system that also controls going into reverse and forward. It truly is hands-free. And, there are only 2 pedals!
The boat is steered with two foot pedals. The pedals also start/stop the motor and select fwd/reverse. Easy to learn and like riding a bike, soon you don't even think about it.

How much does it all weigh and how long will the batteries run under average condition?
It seems the most innovative feature is the control system. Can it be retrofited to exsisting kayak designs?

You did not show paddling. Does the Kingfisher not work so well with paddles?

Awesome kayaks.
Get a website.
These things will sell.
I kayak for exercise and to look for wildlife.
If I were an angler I would want one of these.
