Wow I'm really impressed with Maia's attention (for the sake of the student) of all those subtle details. A lot of instructors simply don't know how to communicate those types of nuances because they are very second nature. Maia's explanation offers so much more insight and really adheres to the spirit of Jiu Jitsu - your strength against your opponent's weakness.

not necessarily. Dan henderson is an amazing wrestler with good submission defense, look at his fight against nogueira. I think they only type of fighter that can beat silva is an unorthodox crazy fighter like shogun.

first of all, henderson fought at heavyweight when he fought nog Second of all, that was way back in 2002. Fighters change. Third of all, hendo had a hard weight cut to 85 when he fought silva. Silva is too tricky on the ground to get submitted and it seems like no one wants anything to do with his stand-up. He doesn't have the best TD defense. If chael sonnen had some power in his shots and was better at sub def, then that would be a great fight.

He's got a really good shot, Silva's a really strong fighter from a lot of areas but he's best in the clinch. Demian Maia may be the one guy who can take away Silva's clinch game and force him to fight on the ground. Silva gets caught in a lot of triangle chokes.

Having said that, he needs to be very careful. Anderson Silva would exploit any mistakes and knock him out. That is if Demian gets a title shot before Silva retires. I could see that happening. There aren't very many people left to fight Silva at MW.

I would say hes going to take UFC and that divsion by storm. Hes probubly the only guy who can submit ANderson Silva. My brother is with Maia Jiu Jitsu and the only school in America. I had the opertunity to meet Maia and spend time with him. Hes a master and hes an even better guy. Just a class act.
