people worry to much about the type of game changes that will be made, I can put up with almost anything as long as it's set in the Diablo universe, I love the universe of this game and not even large changes could dissuade me from playing it, that said, this song is still pretty awesome.
People don't often like change and let's be honest here - Diablo 3 is A LOT of change to take in. If you don't like what Blizzard has done with the franchise, that's cool. But to quote TB here "It's OK to not like things, just don't be a dick about it."
@Dirkasnivs Thing is, the internet seems to spread a virus that makes people incapable of disagreeing without being complete douchebags. Believe me: Try to post a comment saying "I thought this wasn't all that good" on a popular thing, and you'll be getting trolled for YEARS. I really don't understand why different opinions seem to be banned on the internet.
I personally think they're taking this in a wrong way: I wouldn't call this music, it's more like ambient sounds. I'd prefer it D1 style.
@aahatch If not being able to see redeeming qualities in a sterile, unprovoking, soulless and directionless "ambient" turd is being stuck in the past, then cool!
What is with all of the Diablo 3 music tracks being atmospheric? There is no harmonic interest in these scores, and I feel like they are missing the eerie harmonic progressions that Uelmen mastered so well ON TOP of the atmospheric dissonance. If you listen to a score and you can't play back what it sounded like in your head after listening, you have a major problem in attracting the attention of your audience and the score fails to become compelling to the overall game theme.
@DanceTurbo only melodic music can be "played back in your head".. tons of D2 music couldn't be "played back in your head" due to being a lot of random notes... go play lut gholein in ur head
@DanceTurbo I think Blizzard's idea is that music should be less memorable and more ambient in areas where you spend the most time playing. Uelmen's score was amazing and all, but it drew a lot of attention to itself. No matter how fantastic a piece of music is, you'll be pretty sick of it the 50th time you've listened to it.
if this is the kind of background music we can expect - i'm a happy man. this is lovely and atmospheric, there's an edge of menace to it. I like this a lot
I think the idea behind this music is that it's not supposed to be taking the forefront. Maybe Blizzard just decided they wanted the gameplay to speak for itself.
still think this is alright tbh it still has that really chaotic feel to it like the music in the first game alot of you are just complaining for th sake of it if your gonna complain focus on the gameplay i think the monsters and stuff dont seem as hellish and grotesque as they should be on the demo i saw sum big fat guy with a mace didnt even look like a demo wtf is that about and more blood aswell please comment to me i like talkin about it
Don't know what problem you guys have, it's ultra dark and gloomy, so it is not exaclty the same theme as D1 or D2 thank god, that would be unoriginal.
Funny observation - evidently everyone claiming that this kind of thing is bad for a horror-themed game (not whether it's music or not, just that it's bad for its intended purpose) has never in the entirety of their lives played an ACTUAL horror game.
Mix a soundscape like this with periods where very little is going on, except for things moving around that you can't reach or quite see, you're going to get spooked really quick. Done well enough, you can have gamers literally jumping at shadows.
@Pyre men we dont say this is a shit only... this is a shit compared to the original soundtrack from diablo 1 & 2... blizzard let go MATT UELMEN.. just listen the previus soundtracks... and you will see this is the worst shit ever made.
Seriously, those saying that most of us don't remember anything from older diablos in order to justify their posts of music being "subjective" should really get a grip.
First of all, this is not music, this is sound. There's a big gap between those two.Go do your homework about it.
As for "not" remembering any soundtracks: Cathedral,Act I ,Desert,Act II ,Mephisto's Sanctum,Act III (all 3 from diablo II)
I didnt even have to use tristrams music from diablo I+II...
@LordTyrannus Hurrr no. Aside from this moment, I just don't have the time to argue with every single person who disagrees with my stance on this "track." (to which I got about 3 stubborn people a month) The only reason so many shot at me about this is because 70 other people agreed, and it was the first comment to show for this video...
The newer comment is completely right. Even if this DOES qualify as music, Uelmen knows how to handle it better. Nobody will remember this shit in 10 years...
Even if? I just explained and proved that it is music. Try to be a little less ignorant. Saying Uelmen makes better music is unsubstantiated. It's more likely nostalgia is clouding your objectivity. Do you remember every ambient track from the first Diablo? I sure don't. In fact, the only theme people seem to recall when they think Diablo is the Tristram guitar melody.
@LordTyrannus I only played through Diablo 1 once, and beat it. That was about three years ago when I finally got it working. I remember the music explicitly, even after I I had taken a break from gameplay. I have listened to some of it's tracks more than about 15 times afterward. I have the entire soundtrack.
I said that music is subjective, but just like art, it has to be important to mean something. Also note: Calling people "ignorant" over an opinion based affair makes you sound pretentious
@LordTyrannus I have explained my reasoning for not seeing this as music before. But OK. Putting beeps in boops in order to form music is different from this. There is no definite rhythm or reason. No melody. So all you get is a bunch of instruments.. That's it! Oh look, it made an echoing noise! It just used another sound effect. Totally music! MUSIC is only noise retained to some sort of artistic perception. Just give Diablo 1 another chance... you'll see the difference.
You're still not getting it. Using ambient soundscapes, electronic sounds and effects together is music. Sound art counts as music. This track is an expression of a dark spooky environment, thus it has a reason, it has changes in pitch, introduces new variables, and follows a logical progression thus counts as rhythmic. Come to think of it anything that uses sound in an organized manner can be defined as music. Whether it occurs naturally, or at a computer.
@LordTyrannus "Come to think of it anything that uses sound in an organized manner can be defined as music. Whether it occurs naturally, or at a computer."
And thus music is an artform, therefore being subjective. I will leave you to your outlook.
The music presented the tetric and dark ambient of the world, and gave it a very great feeling that was pretty accurate... being the D3 world even more screwed up, i guess they wanted to show that... but its just not the same feeling, this is more like a tiny detail
@AnimeeTrapper94 Ofc you can, did you perhaps miss that the music in Diablo is among, if not THE best soundtrack ever created for a game? I can buy that they change some of it, to reflect changes in the world etc, but they should most definatly keep the same overall theme going. "Don't fix that wich is not broken" is a pretty accurate way to describe it. The music from the first two Diablo games pretty much defined the mood set in the game, and was a vital part of the overall structure.
@AstrobaseAC Except StarCraft II STILL hasn't dropped, at least not in stores. It takes Blizzard years before they drop prices. The damn battle chest for D2 is still 50 bucks!
@moonasha@moonasha Wow, calm down. So I shouldn't reproduce because I think that so far, the score for D3 doesn't live up to D1 and D2? No shit this is ambience, and it's bad. Matt's overall work on D1 and D2 was brilliant. I must say that if you are going to settle for D3's awful overbearing, chaotic score, you my friend are the ignorant one. Go listen to "overture", than listen to Matt Uelmen's work. Get back to me on reasons you think this is better so far. Throwing ad homs for critics=fail.
@superduperjew yet criticizing something that isn't released yet is a bigger fail. As was said earlier this music was pulled from the website. It's background music for the website.
Anyways I like both the new theme and Uelmen's score. They both have their merits. In a sense that makes me less ignorant than you.
@moonasha I am criticizing the score released thus far, how is that a fail? I know that the entire soundtrack isn't released, I'm just not liking the direction. I LOVE the gameplay, graphics etc., but the music makes the game for me. In my own opinion it is fail in comparison to earlier Diablo titles, but perhaps and hopefully it will change. The title of this video is "Diablo 3 Cathedral - Soundtrack ". So obviously, people aren't going to automatically assume it's website background ambience..
I dropped $60 on StarCraft 2 opening day and regretted it, I'm going to sit back and see how this game turns out this time around. Buy them when the price has dropped...
To the complainers: Blizzard probably expected this out of you after making a nearly flawless hack-and-slash game (diablo 2). Just wait for it to come out, then judge. Jeeze.
@Nothization I understand how you feel, but the something about the way diablo 3 was presented annoys me -
They fired Blizzard North because their version wasn't "fun" - despite having created one of their most successful series ever and don't even acknowledge them that much.
They talk about WoW things they put in that people don't like just as if they are enhancements, yet a lot of the people who are Diablo fans are very different from WoW fans.
yea, the thing with WOW is nearly everyone knows what it is, and it's hard not to see some resemblance, but we'll get a hooded girl with a bow in a completely non related movie - many people will say "rip -off, she's like sylvanas".
If we're talking about the form, everything was already made, shown, etc., it just gets some details changed.
I like the idea of the demon hunter, but why the hell did they not make it a damn PALLY. c'mon, a veteran paladin? I'd go for that.
@jackoneill45 i am a wow fan, and a diablo fan aswell. And i can understand that these 2 games are way different and in no way should they even have anything in common. One is a dark, gothic deep game, while the other one is more cartoonish with different settings.
@Nothization finally some true fan who understands that change is part of the life and who doesn't whine like a child. i played these games since d1 aswell and i just don't see what's the point. do you people want to experience exact the same over and over again like rain-man? i would be bored to death if diablo 3 would be like d1/d2 with better graphics.
@Nothization You are right, but the Demon Hunter video was terrible. Cheesy dialogue, melodramatic, strange art style to it that didn't feel like Diablo's. And it also felt pretentious, like I was being told "You are supposed to feel suspense now" whenever the demon hunter said something incredibly cheesy like, "As long as I'm here, they are prey", and then she got up and pulled out her crossbows... /facepalm
@Nothization sad thing is ... we played D1 and D2 when it came out ... thats why we are so nostalgic ... and since D1 is 12 old .... we arent definitely kids :D
@Nothization Compared to the first two iterations of the series D3 falls fabulously short and robs players of the "magic" that past games in the series had. You have absolutely no moral authority to tell people to stop whining when the product is inferior. If you make an inferior product you're going to get a lot of people complaining about it. That's basic logic, get used to it kids.
@Nothization people are not whining just about changes, they are whining about BAD changes, D1 music was so living yet still had a great tune and melody to it.
whoever decided not to hire Matt Uelmen (the guy who writes the diablo game music) to make the diablo 3 music should be fed to diablo. this crap sounds like generic movie music/effects/strange sounds? and has no real character.
@Endolaylith It would very cool to have Matt do the music for DIII but unfortunately/fortunately hes currently busy working for Runic on the next Torchlight game. Unfortunate that he won't be a part of Diablo III (although they might build of whatever work he produced while still at the company) but fortunate that he's found a good home with Runic and their Torchlight series.
The same thing happened with Starcraft 2. I thought all the songs were gonna be WAY too epic for gameplay but then when the beta was released it came out with different songs that fit perfectly with Starcraft, so chances are, this is more like a preview of how the music is gonna sound, the different instruments and such, and it'll probably have a lot of remakes of older classics.
@Dallishar So far none of Blizzard's game brought disappointment, and Diablo 3 will be no different. People just tend to whine a lot about pretty much everything, especially if it's internet.
mmm... i believe diablo 2 music was like a nice cocktail, while the new soundtrack, at least so far, sounds like someone mix 90 % water, with 10 % of the good stuff. i dont really like it, but "im an alcoholic". Hope theres a way to change the sound files, so a few good fellas from ocremix make an alternative score, with more "flavour".
is not bad, but when i imagine myself slashing things over this track and watching the candy graphics its just crap, what happened to matt? his tristam theme is still my fav.
I like the vibe of this, plus the first Diablo had a lot of good ambient sounds/songs in it. I don't even remember much of the music from Diablo II other than the Tristram theme and that was because of the first game of course.
Actually Diablo II in general really wasn't all that memorable to me. The setting, the tone and addictiveness was much higher in the first game even if Diablo II was a more varied and deeper game.
D3 needs some more Gothic-style guitar tracks. But this Ambient-style rhythm is flat-out AWESOME! It feels gritty, dark, depressing, and lonely ~ just my style! I love it, great choice.
Im sure if i were new to this game and werent biased with the old ways, i would be like "this stuff if obviously much better suited to the gaming experience"
I can.... This music isn't that good :C I liked the old dark and mysterious ways of the D2 music. I have that OST on my iPod and i've listened to "Sisters" more than any other song on my iPod. To me this just doesn't match.
Oh my God, 1:06 amazing sounds!!!

Waiting a lot from Diablo III.
Didn't like II that much. It was nice that they invented running and all,
but just because I can now run, does not mean that I love to spend
time roaming through 4 fields twice longer longer than taking stairs down in
the next room. And that's not all, after the fields end, I get to roam deserts!
It also lacked the dark musty atmosphere that the first one had.
Hope this one is gloomy as hell and with less strolling.

superduperjew 1 year ago 2
@superduperjew yet criticizing something that isn't released yet is a bigger fail. As was said earlier this music was pulled from the website. It's background music for the website.
Anyways I like both the new theme and Uelmen's score. They both have their merits. In a sense that makes me less ignorant than you.
moonasha 1 year ago
@moonasha I am criticizing the score released thus far, how is that a fail? I know that the entire soundtrack isn't released, I'm just not liking the direction. I LOVE the gameplay, graphics etc., but the music makes the game for me. In my own opinion it is fail in comparison to earlier Diablo titles, but perhaps and hopefully it will change. The title of this video is "Diablo 3 Cathedral - Soundtrack ". So obviously, people aren't going to automatically assume it's website background ambience..

@superduperjew yeah, diablo music should be dark and awesome!

That the music won't be nearly as good as that of the previous installments' is at least something we can be completely sure of.

To the complainers: Blizzard probably expected this out of you after making a nearly flawless hack-and-slash game (diablo 2). Just wait for it to come out, then judge. Jeeze.

Too bad they fucked up the music, but i guess i have diablo 2 soundtrack in the background... bitch niggaz ruin it fo me...

I've played all parts, damn, I remember playing Diablo 1 when it came out.
So...
So screw all this whining about the changes. I'm gonna buy D3, play it, and have FUN.
The world changes, so the trends do. get used to it, kids.

@Nothization I'm sorry, if the world changes to crap, It doesn't mean I will too.
jackoneill45 1 year ago
@jackoneill45
I won't argue on that. I'm just fed up with everyone following a trend (sic!) to criticize a game before it came out.
And only because it's new, differs from the last one, etc.
Nothization 1 year ago
@Nothization I understand how you feel, but the something about the way diablo 3 was presented annoys me -
They fired Blizzard North because their version wasn't "fun" - despite having created one of their most successful series ever and don't even acknowledge them that much.
They talk about WoW things they put in that people don't like just as if they are enhancements, yet a lot of the people who are Diablo fans are very different from WoW fans.
That, and the classes just don't seem to fit.
jackoneill45 1 year ago
@jackoneill45
yea, the thing with WOW is nearly everyone knows what it is, and it's hard not to see some resemblance, but we'll get a hooded girl with a bow in a completely non related movie - many people will say "rip -off, she's like sylvanas".
If we're talking about the form, everything was already made, shown, etc., it just gets some details changed.
I like the idea of the demon hunter, but why the hell did they not make it a damn PALLY. c'mon, a veteran paladin? I'd go for that.
Nothization 1 year ago
@jackoneill45 i am a wow fan, and a diablo fan aswell. And i can understand that these 2 games are way different and in no way should they even have anything in common. One is a dark, gothic deep game, while the other one is more cartoonish with different settings.
flashvlad 1 year ago
@Nothization finally some true fan who understands that change is part of the life and who doesn't whine like a child. i played these games since d1 aswell and i just don't see what's the point. do you people want to experience exact the same over and over again like rain-man? i would be bored to death if diablo 3 would be like d1/d2 with better graphics.

Ty :)
not to mention I completely agree with you.
Nothization 1 year ago
@Nothization You are right, but the Demon Hunter video was terrible. Cheesy dialogue, melodramatic, strange art style to it that didn't feel like Diablo's. And it also felt pretentious, like I was being told "You are supposed to feel suspense now" whenever the demon hunter said something incredibly cheesy like, "As long as I'm here, they are prey", and then she got up and pulled out her crossbows... /facepalm
I hope Blizzard can pull it off.
bradpittftw1111 1 year ago 2
@Nothization sad thing is ... we played D1 and D2 when it came out ... thats why we are so nostalgic ... and since D1 is 12 old .... we arent definitely kids :D
Gorstt1 1 year ago
@Nothization Compared to the first two iterations of the series D3 falls fabulously short and robs players of the "magic" that past games in the series had. You have absolutely no moral authority to tell people to stop whining when the product is inferior. If you make an inferior product you're going to get a lot of people complaining about it. That's basic logic, get used to it kids.
xPythox 10 months ago
@xPythox And how exactly do you know the product is inferior? it isn't even out yet, i'd say: don't judge a game before it is finished
beardfosh 10 months ago
@xPythox
"You have absolutely no moral authority to tell people to stop whining when the product is inferior."
It's only your subjective opinion, that the product is inferior, and you have no "moral authority" to impose your opinion on to others.
Sir! Using words like "iteration", "inferior", does not make you a more inteligent person!
Have a good day.
Nothization 10 months ago
@xPythox Rofl, dude its not even out yet, how can you say its inferior?!?
Let it come out, roll it once and than you can judge

Alco0276 1 year ago
whoever decided not to hire Matt Uelmen (the guy who writes the diablo game music) to make the diablo 3 music should be fed to diablo. this crap sounds like generic movie music/effects/strange sounds? and has no real character.
Endolaylith 1 year ago
@Endolaylith It would very cool to have Matt do the music for DIII but unfortunately/fortunately hes currently busy working for Runic on the next Torchlight game. Unfortunate that he won't be a part of Diablo III (although they might build of whatever work he produced while still at the company) but fortunate that he's found a good home with Runic and their Torchlight series.

Sounds like someone is on a very bad horrortrip
Rodriquez124 1 year ago
There is one thing lacking from the Diablo III music that was dominant in the other games. Thunderous, demonic drumming.
Aufdie87 1 year ago 2
The same thing happened with Starcraft 2. I thought all the songs were gonna be WAY too epic for gameplay but then when the beta was released it came out with different songs that fit perfectly with Starcraft, so chances are, this is more like a preview of how the music is gonna sound, the different instruments and such, and it'll probably have a lot of remakes of older classics.

Just like SC2 D3 will be a dissapointment, this time i will not waste my money though.
Dallishar 1 year ago
@Dallishar So far none of Blizzard's game brought disappointment, and Diablo 3 will be no different. People just tend to whine a lot about pretty much everything, especially if it's internet.

mmm... i believe diablo 2 music was like a nice cocktail, while the new soundtrack, at least so far, sounds like someone mix 90 % water, with 10 % of the good stuff. i dont really like it, but "im an alcoholic". Hope theres a way to change the sound files, so a few good fellas from ocremix make an alternative score, with more "flavour".

Dkzdrood 1 year ago
I like the vibe of this, plus the first Diablo had a lot of good ambient sounds/songs in it. I don't even remember much of the music from Diablo II other than the Tristram theme and that was because of the first game of course.
Actually Diablo II in general really wasn't all that memorable to me. The setting, the tone and addictiveness was much higher in the first game even if Diablo II was a more varied and deeper game.
notyoursavior78 1 year ago
D3 needs some more Gothic-style guitar tracks. But this Ambient-style rhythm is flat-out AWESOME! It feels gritty, dark, depressing, and lonely ~ just my style! I love it, great choice.

this "music" is not demonic without the acoustic guitar... its all like, led zeppelin and shit

the 12 string acoustic guitar was always a piece of diablo and its mystical/diabolical atmosphere.
