  • Little John held his own. Sorry he's sick now but to me, he saved the Spinners after Philippe left. And he did so without trying to BE the guy who left, just like Philippe didn't try to be GC Cameron. That's a mistake too many groups have made.

  • Beautiful music, period.

  • The voices of blacks are the best.

  • i guess Berry Gordy felt at the time he had too many male group acts.....when success finally hit them, these men were in their mid thirties....the youngest member was Philippe

  • He a church Man. No doubt. Good, but not as good as Phillipe' Wynn, the original. But i'm glad they chose the new guy. He's good.

  • I dont know how someone can call the Spinners a cover band without Phillipe Wynne, he wasnt even a founding member of the group. Of course there was never anyone who could ad lib like he did but they had a string of hits without him, his solo career also failed, so who made who? I love all the brothers of this mighty group and John was Sam cooke reincarnated all day long and he's still alive just in bad health.

  • @DaninJonesboro They weren't a cover band without Philipe, but they were certainly not nearly as good without him. They only had 2 top hits "Working My Way Back to You Girl" and "Cupid" after he left--nothing else. Philippe's solo career was not very good. He should've stayed with the group. He didn't make the group, but he helped take them to heights they had never seen. Damm mad he left though, Philippe and Bobbie Smith were the best lead duo ever alongside of Ruffin and Kendricks.

  • @ewiz06

While you do bring up some valid points the man singing this lead John was no slouch by any stretch of the imagination, the spinners knew exactly what they were doing when they selected John to replace Phillipe. It was no mistake that they kept right on rolling and soounding just as good with John, I'm sure that Phillipe must have know that he made a mistake leaving the group. I was only saying to call them a cover band when they still had Bobbie Smith was very insulting in my view.

  • @DaninJonesboro John was no slouch--he brought a different sound to the group that I really liked, but he was no Phillipe. They had two hits without Phillipe (of course PW had no solo hits). They did sound good with John, but no one will tell you they were just as good without PW. I totally agree with you in that is a foolish comment to say that they were a cover band without PW. Either way, sounds like we're both big fans so I'm just going to sit back and enjoy my favorite group!

  • @ewiz06

That's the truth my friend and yes, in the end we are die hard Spinners fan and just like the group, I wish you health and strength! You take care and remember this is a timeless thing and moment in time that we are priviledged to be a part of!

    PEACE

  • ilalfisto

  • Without Philip Wynne, this is a cover band.

  • @ilalfisto and without the spinners phillipe wynee would have never been famous. just saying

  • How can anyone dislike this!!!!

  • One of the top hits of 1974. Let the Disco Era begin.

  • I don't think it's a matter of who is better. I like them all and appreciate each groups unique vibe. They're all bad to me!! ( bad is good for those who don't get it)

  • would'nt it have been cool for the temptations,o'jays, and the spinners to have did a recording together?

  • The Spinners as a group was not better then the other groups.. As for the lead singer Philippe Wynn, he was equal to or better then any lead singer in any group, he made the songs his by ad living through the song unrehearsed, the song didn't make him.. No one can even remake anyone of his songs, Ron Tyson sounds like Eddie, Ollie Wodson sounds like Dennis, and David, but i love them all.. The temps are my favorite group, my favorite lead singer is Philippe Wynn. Although i love Eddie Kendricks

  • @CARIBANA00...well said...as a musician, the term is "adlibbing" deriving from the term for the term "ad-lib".

  • It's fine to like one group one day, one another day or all of them. People are led to believe music is a competition. It's isn't. It's here to enjoy and be inspired by.

  • @myklmusic

Dude they are better, just accept it and you will be a better person for it

  • @1980Triumph

    Dude... better person? Better group?

    Competition?

I was correct... you've lost your mind.

    Hahaha!

  • @myklmusic

Glad to see a fag hag like yourself cares so much

  • In a day of so much "public smut", it is SO refreshing to see entertainers who just had fun on stage. Artists today are so disgruntled, angry, rich twits, they forget their audience and then wonder why "we don't get them". This is just "clean", "wholesome" entertainment. Though a Zeppelin fan, I GET THIS!

  • Every group has their own style. They were all great. They all brought something for the World to hear.

  • Man I Miss John.... He made the gig worthwhile.Well Him and PJ with all of his jokes. LOL...

  • He killed them at 2:34-6 (smile)

  • "I'm Gone!" What a dope way to end the song!

  • Detroit Spinners - Mighty Love. It just doesn't get any better! Total magic!

  • Four Tops a the only Motown group that didn't need help with their vocals. It's been said that they assisted the male groups more than a few times.

  • *snapping fingers* **bobbing head** ***tapping feet***

    ~Tiffany~

  • there is the temptations and then their was everyone else.. no other group like that had more #1 songs, more top 10 hits, more albums sold, on an on and on... just the facts.. not an opinion but a fact!!

  • |You people act like there was no |Dramatics, Whispers, BloodStone, let alone Herald Melvin, EWF.. I am sorry but the spinners could not touch any of the group's i've named let alone the ojays, or the tempts.wat kinda music you talkin about?

  • your crazy, Spinners beat everyone you mentioned with the exception of EWF

  • @54cookie1 bit over stated. They're all good.

  • It's a toss up. There were many great groups at that time. Spinners, Manhattans, Blue Magic, Stylelistics, OJays, just to mention a few. We loved them all and still listen to them along with today's greats!

  • Agreed except for the part about...

    "today's greats!"

    Where are they?!

Haven't found, liked any pop/soul music in the States since ~ 1983.

  • As far as the Spinners-O'Jays-Temps-Four Tops debate goes...it's pretty close. Clearly Phillippe was the difference maker, able to hold his own with Levert Sr., Ruffin, Kendricks, et al. The Spinners were clearly superior, in my mind to the Ojays and Tops (and easily out-sold these groups during the 70s) and about dead-even with the Temps. But it was all great 60s and 70s R& B though.

  • your are so right, I even wrote the same thing in my Spinners video on youtube. The Spinners did outsell them in the 70's. All Eddie did was scream. You are not alone in believing the Spinners were superior

  • @devernie1 .... Shit it's a tough call. The Four Tops should not be in the top three at all. Everyones gonna go with The Temps because it's customary to do so but I'm remembering all the hits the Spinners had. Man they ran the 70's! But like I said, tough call. With Ruffins versatile and smooth voice I may have to go with the Temps.

  • Mighty, Mighty, Mighty Love Jones.....naw naw uh-uh, its not the same without Phillippe

  • Oh hell naw! If they were going to get someone to replace Phillipe Wynn, he needed to be a strong baritone. This is bullshit!

  • @ViewPoynt I know everyone is used to Phillippe, even John Edwards said it was hard for him to follow Phillippe, But John did himself and that's a good thing. John did the damn thang HIS way.

  • I like john but he no Phillipe wynn

    long live the philly sound.

  • kentcarmona: i agreee!

  • Ahhh. Sweet memories of first love. Great classic song from the 70's. I love it!! Thanks for posting... :=))

  • As much as we ALL LOVE Phillipe, I couldn't imagine a better replacement than John

  • @1980Triumph

I agree! John is amazing. As replacements go, he's tops!

  • @1980Triumph For sure. What is John's last name? Is he still alive?

  • @JayByrd53

Edwards and yes he is alive but suffering from a stroke.

  • I am one of the few who think the Spinners are better than the Temps, Tops, and the O'Jays

  • Maybe not the Temptations but definitely better then the O'Jays and 4 Tops. Spinners have always been one of my favorite groups.

  • I can respect that, glad to see someone who doesn't put the Spinners so far back, it seems they are somewhat put back but they were one of the top selling groups in the 70's

  • I LOVE the Spinners, but to say they are better than the Temps or O'Jays is taking it a little far. I think they are/were better than the Four Tops and came close to the Temps and O'jays WITH Phillipe Wynn but after Phillipe left they wern't even in the same category as The Temps or O'Jays!

  • Ok, as far as hits in the 70's they were neck and neck with the O'Jays. To me personally, I just love the Spinners sound, I grew up with more influence from hearing the O'Jays but as an adult the Spinners are just it for me, as far as that type of group. With Phillpe they were amazing

  • I can totally understand where u are coming from. The Spinners did have that uniqueness that separated them from ALL of the rest especially with PHILLIPE on vocals :)

  • @1980Triumph I agree whole heartily. The best of the best they did their thing.

  • @1980Triumph I completely agree with you. All other groups can often be mistaken for another. But when you hear the Spinners you know it's the Spinners. They are truly one of a kind love em.

  • @1980Triumph You are not the only one who thinks that. I have been looking through all of the old footage on youtube and it seems to me the spinners are the best of them all!

  • @ohc3rd1

Glad to know I am not alone.

  • @1980Triumph mmmmmmmm......I would rethink that one. Nobody gets better than the Tempts....past or present......C'mon now. Just MOP

  • Now THATS good music right there!!!

    The music you hear nowadays....

Now THATS Good music right there! (lol)

  • He's not Phillpe but John is jammin.

  • tompaixaoreporter ....Phillipe Wynn died July 13, 1984. He is sorely missed because this just does not sound like the Spinners I remember. Phillipe's sound was just so unique!

  • where is phillipe wynn, the original singer of this song?

  • He died several years ago.

  • God I love this tune, and the singers are so great. This is the best group ever !! So much talent. John get better and come back to use soon.

  • I posted the entire medley 10-19-07 long before bits and pieces were lifted for separate posts.

  • It's not a medley. It's one song: Mighty Love

  • You are right. Thanks for correcting me.

  • GET WELL JOHN !

  • he's sick?

  • John Edwards suffered a stroke about 5 years ago as what I read from several Spinners fan sites . I don't know how bad it actually was , but I hope that it was not that serious and that one day he'll be back !

  • Luv it..Luv It...Luv it thaks for posting:-)

  • "I don't mind/Telling the whole wide world." Ha!
