I have looked for an answer to the question I am about to ask, but nobody has asked you what I want to know...I do not mean to be offensive in any way, but I want to know if your teeth were filed down? they look smaller than your much earlier videos. I have had my braces for 2 months now, and my teeth are similar in appearance to your earlier videos, and I have always wanted small, perfect cute teeth like yours are now. I am 45, it is never too late. To have braces at my age is a celebration.

My orthodontist has not mentioned filing my teath yet, but maybe somewhere along my treatment or even after my braces are removed she will. If she does not, I may seek consultation from a cosmetic dentist. I want the minimum done to my teeth such as filing, so I will be alert and aware for cosmetic dentist trying to push other treatment, such as porcelain veneers; they do wonders, but filing is all I need. BLESSINGS.

You are the Walgreen's queen. I went...no RAN to walgreen's one time because you said they had the Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie and I always wanted to try it. So I bought it the day I watched your vlog. I currently use Taaliah Waajid as my staple products. I love the whole line, even the kids berry shampoo. I wonder is Walgreen's will sell them for slightly less money. Taaliah Waajid averages $7 per item, normally.... Hmm, you are going to make me RUN again! Love your hair Summyr!
Love the hairdo! I am not surprised to hear you're 30. I think people who are shorter than average (I think I heard you mention your height before) seem to have a younger appearance. In fact, I know people who are under 5 feet 4 and they look like they're in their late teens. I had a 2nd grade teacher who had to be like 4 ft 9, and when I ran into her recently I figured her to be in her late 40s, imagine my surprise when she told me she was in her 60s!

Summyr, why do you need the retainer after the braces--and for how long? Hooray! No braces! I think glasses--which I wear--look worse! The braces didn't make you look any less cuter, but I know they are really uncomfortable! Wow!--To think that they actually hurt coming off too! When you get your retainer, follow the directions of your orthodontist...I've had mine for almost a year (retainer)...it feels funny when you first get it but just like the braces, you get used to it!!! Enjoy the remainder of your journey...I have an essix retainer! as always your hair is awesome!!!

I got braces the end of April 2011, and I'm 29 years old. I can't wait to see the end results because my teeth were jacked up, and I'm paying out of pocket.

@tweetsss20 Maybe it was a some locations before. It was never at my Walgreens. I did see the shea moistue stuff there and TW was available at some CVS stores, but not mine. I got the earrings at the hair show in Atlanta in April.
I got braces at 32 years old and I don't regret it. Having braces for 1 and 6 months was nothing.....I thought it interesting that you had your braces removed before the retainers were ready. The dentist created my mold 2 weeks prior to removing my braces. They wanted to pop my retainers in my mouth as soon as they removed the last bracket. Congrats on your braces removal!!!!
Hey Summyr, you look great! It's never too late to enhance your appearance. A co-worker of mine got braces and she's in her early thirties too. Btw, I tried the lock it up gel and I love it too! It's light, not greasy and holds really well.
yaay! i can't wait to see how my teeth look when my ceramic braces come off, i have an open bite and i have rarely ever smiled EVER until recently after putting these braces in. By the way i am 24 with braces, so what it's never to late to get them if your gum and teeth are strong and healthy.

My orthodontist said I could have fixed the problem I had by wearing a retainer for a while, or he could pull out 4 teeth put me in braces and make me perfect. I opted for perfect. No. I've been slippin on the pics. I never get on Fotki. I'm on Natural Sunshine. I usualy post pics there.

@Summyr1988 My issue was minor 2. All of my teeth r str8 but I had a permanent tooth that didn't grow n the correct spot. It grew BEHIND the correct spot. I got braces Feb '09 & by the middle of March, the tooth was n the correct spot but my ortho told me since we made room 4 it, we had 2 shift my other teeth so I had braces for a full 2yrs! And I'm like you..I got insurance so I'm gonna get it!! and I have clear braces too...you've scared me now. I'm getting them removed June 20th...yikes!
lol. when i got them again in my 20s one of my good girlfriends asked me "why are you getting braces? you teeth are going to fall out when you get old anyway." i wasnt sure whether to laugh or educate her. i just kind of balled up my face out of sheer confusion and told her that teeth are not supposed to fall out as you age. *sideways glance, mouthing WOW* best thing that ive ever (re)done. your hair looks great and congratulations! get efferdent or the like to clean the retainer.
I had braces around the same age. It makes more sense to have them when you're older. You're body has stopped growing and you're more likely to be responsible about the retainer. Two of my cousins (sisters) had braces twice in their lives. Once around 13 years old and again in high school. Anywho, congrats! You look beautiful!

Girl I had to payout of pocket, but they were worth EVERY penny! LOL about sitting in the waiting room with the kids... I used to go to my appointments like WHAT!... say something... I dare!! LOL!!! I remember being SO excited to just being able to bite into foods again without having to cut up EVERYTHING.... I do NOT miss having to cut up my food.... yeah to you again.... thumbs up to you for getting braces as an adult, you do what you gotta do when you can do it! I'm happy I did it too!
love the hairstyle! i agree with you about braces b/c 1) teeth is usually the 1st thing folks notice 2) if i had an issue with my teeth; i would've fixed the issue TO BE SURE I'M EXTRA CONFIDENT 3) it's your money; it's your teeth; it's insurance; it's between you & the dentist; it's your business :) i love my hair now; but when i was getting relaxers i wasn't confident about my hair!

OMG I loved my braces. I encouraged one of my friends, who is 33 and a man, to get braces. He thought he was too old but my mother was 35 when she got hers and was 40 when they came off. A persons smile is a great first impression
I bet you many of those ppl who questioned "why braces at your age" needed some for themselves. If you're 70 then I guess I can understand the question (I guess) but 30, 40, 50 even 60....why not? @harlem4you--Hey I read your comment & just thought I'd chime in and say, don't be scared to get the braces. My aunt is in her mid 50s and just got her braces off. Her teeth are beautiful, she had a overbite and other issues. In fact, where I live, I see a lot of adults with braces (my aunt had the metal ones).

@justicenga This is my second time too. I will hold on to that retainer and wear it however they tell me to. :) I lost my retainer the first time and was afraid to tell my dad bc he would have to pay for new ones.
What kind of insurance paid for braces?!??!!? I've tried to find orthodontic insurance but I can't find any!!!!!! My employer only provides basic dental insurance. Did you get insurance through your job? How much of a discount was the insurance and how much did you have to pay out of pocket- percentage wise? Hope these aren't too personal questions.. I just want braces soo badly.. but I can't afford it. Neeed to find a way though!
@unicqueky I have Delta Dental insurance and they cover part of the cost of braces. I have insurance through my job. I forgot how much of a percentage they paid. I also got a flexible spending card to pay the orthodontist and the money was taken out of my paycheck. I paid maybe 500.00 out of pocket. I also had the ceramic braces which are more expensive. My orthodontist offers a payment plan, so I bet others do too. That may be an option if your insurance won't help.
what kind of problems did you have with your teeth to need braces? i feel like im going to have to wear them when im older because the dentist told me i needed them when i was like 12 but i have never heard anything else about it n now im 18 so idk....
@Letta510 I just didn't like the way they looked. I don't think any of us "need" them. It's more of a matter of how you feel about your teeth. If you don't like them, check to see about getting braces. If you are happy with your smile, don't worry about it and save the money. It's a personal thing.

Congrats! Your teeth look beautiful. I got braces when I was 21 and yeah I felt weird being in the waiting room with teens, preteens and their parents lol. Best investment ever though. I got them off 2 years ago but lost my clear retainers and the spacing started coming back. I just got a hawley retainer (the ones that look kinda like braces) and I'm embarrassed to admit but I love wearing them because i feel like i'm wearing braces again.
@lepetitecherie Thanks Hun. I understand how you feel. It's like a sense of security if you can feel the wire. They asked me to pick colors for my retainers, So I think I'm getting that kind. I picked tiger stripes. :) It's a good thing that you like them, that's too much money to waste if you stop wearing the retainers.

Wow Walgreens is getting everything great!! Lol, i got braces when i was like 32 and had them for 2 years and the whole time i never seen an adult in there it was always small children and teenagers. My only advice (if you did ask me) is i had to wear mine when i went to bed, and i was bad and only did that for a year and i stopped and my teeth started separting, what a waste huh?

I got braces Feb '09 & by the middle of March, the tooth was n the correct spot but my ortho told me since we made room 4 it, we had 2 shift my other teeth so I had braces for a full 2yrs! And I'm like you..I got insurance so I'm gonna get it!! and I have clear braces too...you've scared me now. I'm getting them removed June 20th...yikes!

lol. when i got them again in my 20s one of my good girlfriends asked me "why are you getting braces? you teeth are going to fall out when you get old anyway." i wasnt sure whether to laugh or educate her. i just kind of balled up my face out of sheer confusion and told her that teeth are not supposed to fall out as you age. *sideways glance, mouthing WOW* best thing that ive ever (re)done. your hair looks great and congratulations! get efferdent or the like to clean the retainer.

I had braces around the same age. It makes more sense to have them when you're older. You're body has stopped growing and you're more likely to be responsible about the retainer. Two of my cousins (sisters) had braces twice in their lives. Once around 13 years old and again in high school. Anywho, congrats! You look beautiful!

I got mine at 11...why did my last baby tooth come out at 17, oh yeah after the braces came off. Anyway, they look beautiful happy for ya!

Girl I had to payout of pocket, but they were worth EVERY penny! LOL about sitting in the waiting room with the kids... I used to go to my appointments like WHAT!... say something... I dare!! LOL!!! I remember being SO excited to just being able to bite into foods again without having to cut up EVERYTHING.... I do NOT miss having to cut up my food.... yeah to you again.... thumbs up to you for getting braces as an adult, you do what you gotta do when you can do it! I'm happy I did it too!

love the hairstyle! i agree with you about braces b/c 1) teeth is usually the 1st thing folks notice 2) if i had an issue with my teeth; i would've fixed the issue TO BE SURE I'M EXTRA CONFIDENT 3) it's your money; it's your teeth; it's insurance; it's between you & the dentist; it's your business :) i love my hair now; but when i was getting relaxers i wasn't confident about my hair!

OMG I loved my braces. I encouraged one of my friends, who is 33 and a man, to get braces. He thought he was too old but my mother was 35 when she got hers and was 40 when they came off. A persons smile is a great first impression

I bet you many of those ppl who questioned "why braces at your age" needed some for themselves. If you're 70 then I guess I can understand the question (I guess) but 30, 40, 50 even 60....why not? I had braces from 18 -20 so during my beginning young adult years lol and now it's my fourth year of having them off and I still get compliments all the time from random strangers about how straight and white my teeth are lol...my teeth aren't naturally white, but after crest whitestrips supreme from amazon on these bad boys I feel like a teeth model LOL congrats again!

And Im 35 so im way to old to be doing it but Im like you, I have insurance and I have an issue with my teeth so I guess it will be worth it.. @harlem4you--Hey I read your comment & just thought I'd chime in and say, don't be scared to get the braces. My aunt is in her mid 50s and just got her braces off. Her teeth are beautiful, she had a overbite and other issues. In fact, where I live, I see a lot of adults with braces (my aunt had the metal ones).

What kind of insurance paid for braces?!??!!? I've tried to find orthodontic insurance but I can't find any!!!!!! My employer only provides basic dental insurance. Did you get insurance through your job? How much of a discount was the insurance and how much did you have to pay out of pocket- percentage wise? Hope these aren't too personal questions.. I just want braces soo badly.. but I can't afford it. Neeed to find a way though!

@unicqueky I have Delta Dental insurance and they cover part of the cost of braces. I have insurance through my job. I forgot how much of a percentage they paid. I also got a flexible spending card to pay the orthodontist and the money was taken out of my paycheck. I paid maybe 500.00 out of pocket. I also had the ceramic braces which are more expensive. My orthodontist offers a payment plan, so I bet others do too. That may be an option if your insurance won't help.

@Letta510 I just didn't like the way they looked. I don't think any of us "need" them. It's more of a matter of how you feel about your teeth. If you don't like them, check to see about getting braces. If you are happy with your smile, don't worry about it and save the money. It's a personal thing.

Congrats! Your teeth look beautiful. I got braces when I was 21 and yeah I felt weird being in the waiting room with teens, preteens and their parents lol. Best investment ever though. I got them off 2 years ago but lost my clear retainers and the spacing started coming back. I just got a hawley retainer (the ones that look kinda like braces) and I'm embarrassed to admit but I love wearing them because i feel like i'm wearing braces again.

I picked tiger stripes. :) It's a good thing that you like them, that's too much money to waste if you stop wearing the retainers.

Wow Walgreens is getting everything great!! Lol, i got braces when i was like 32 and had them for 2 years and the whole time i never seen an adult in there it was always small children and teenagers. My only advice (if you did ask me) is i had to wear mine when i went to bed, and i was bad and only did that for a year and i stopped and my teeth started separting, what a waste huh?
