When you say that you're NOT the best and that playing is just an art, while some of the best musicians in the world claim unanimously that you're a guitar genius, then most likely you got a shot to be "The Best" OR at least one of the two (2) best in the world.
Steve is on a plane of making the future of guitar available now. He is a creator of novel guitar. To be the 'best' you have to compete ... who can compete with a guy who creates NEW guitar stuff ?. When you get to the realm of being a creative artist the only person you are competing with is yourself. Steve is such an artist. He creates and this inspires. That's better and more of a contribution than being a competitor for a 'best' title.

Absolutely nothing. Its a whole cut in a solid wood body. It actually kills off some of the wanted harmonics but does however make the body more susceptable to feedback which can be desiable. I happen to know Steve just wanted a handle on the guitar, simple as that! :o)

in my opinion he never reached his mentor, the REAL master of guitar: frank zappa. and that is becaue technical skills are one, compository sklls are the other! I am deeply sad aout what shallow records steve has made because of his lack of mastering composition.

Stop comparing already Vai just said it, and hes absolutely right how can there be best in guitar, guitar can be played in millions of ways blues metal alternative ect. but u can always state witch is best in your opinion deppending on your style,
now days teenagers like to compare Synyster Gates, hes a very great guitarist amazing sweeper, but this comparing thing is ridicilous,

Yeah, it pisses me off when people argue about their favourite guitarist, or musician for that matter, as if they're the world's greatest. If there was a world's greatest, there's be rankings an tournaments and the like, and even then, hardly anyone would agree with the outcome. I mean, if I were to say that John Petrucci, Chris Broderick and Paul Gilbert were the "best guitarists in the world", who would agree? Hardly anyone. That's cause as Steve said, there is no best. Sorry bout the rant.
