@SpadeAce90 You're wrong. This new graphical feature is actually very stupidly easy to make on any 3D software. The hardest part of water is mostly the foam + waves which requires a lot of set up to have stunning visual result.

Easy to make = Less time designing game = Profit.

PS: A good card will likely cost you between $350 - $750.

@antripod123 I disagree, Crysis is not the only game that can render shaders at this level. Unreal Development Kit can make some pretty realistic shaders that are as complex as this. ID are working on an engine that would be able to easily handle this quality also.

@antripod123 well there is no game yet but there is a free rendering engine that can achieve similar effects as the crytec game engine and that is the ogre realtime render engine if that were used in game engines we would have cheaper game engines that even the average joe can afford besides the $100+ game engines we see today. (and yes I now about the untiy game engine but that is only to directx 9 and doesn't support linux.) Long story short ogre can do all new technolgies ex. DX11 and opengl4

@bleedadream777 But the ground's appearence it to do with texturing, not realistic animation like this water is. Realistic dynamic realtime water is ever harder, because it can't be rendered in advanced and things (such as the player) can then interact with water.

@bleedadream777 Yeah what barnaby said. Ground mostly consists of texture data. So the more realistic texture is, the more realistic ground looks. If you're trying to say that ground should draw individual grass plants, then yes it would be complex rendering but only because there are so many things that need to be drawn. Water is a lot different like Barnaby said. Realistic water is very hard to do because then you would need to add physics on water interaction.

Consoles have the advantage of being able to make assumptions about the hardware capability which is how such dated technology still pumps out rather great looking games.

Plus Diablo 3 is on the way and looks amazing, not to mention S.T.A.L.K.E.R: CoP and all. Plus Amnesia: The Dark Descent (Hailed as one of the best survival horror game ever). Not to mention PC's get to emulate everything from the Wii, PS2, DS, PSP etcetera.

Overall, there is no shortage of great PC titles coming out, sorry, bro.

@IngloriousSob guess you dont know anything about computers. consoles use DX9 which means it can have more fps. It also runs in 1280x720. PCs can go 2560x1600. consoles doent have anti aliasing which means Jagged lines on all objects. and you can buy a PC that is as good as a console for $200. Unless you buy ATI then any retard will not get a buggy driver from nvidia cards.

What are you talking about? Of course consoles use antialiasing, even the N64 had it. And while you're right in saying that the hardware nowadays consoles use is outdated, it's also more optimized for gaming than anything you would find in a normal market.

@narutofan9999 well most games use anti-aliasing and 1080p and most dont. The game that has these 2 and good visuals are racing games. Racing games have 1080p and AA. MOstly because it doesnt take a high end PC to play it. i could play need for speed on max settings with a GT230 and it would get 40fps tops. earlier games are a great example. look at GTA4 the jagged lines stood out like heck and it was 720p. Modern games have better engines so it does utilize better graphics but not that much.
