hey nice demo,i have the same amp but it sounds like shit,no matter what i try it sounds so muddy and horrible,i tried many different eq settings and lowering and raising the gain but still it sounds horrible,im 100% sure its not a problem with my guitar/cable and i tried asking help at like a roland forums, and it seems im the only1 with the problem, could u help me out?thx
@megadeth806 Hmmmm, sorry to hear that. I would try your guitar through another amp and see if it sounds good, using your cable. If good results, then has to be the speaker or amp. I would try and find another cube to try using your guitar/cable. Every Cube i've tried has sounded the same, 30x wise.
@motokev can you somehow give me an web page where is show the different sound settings for this thing...i lost the paper where is shown the differend souds....i need it because one sound was wery good and i dont remember how to find it ...
@megadeth806 dude I have the same problem too! The moment I plugged in my guitar it sounds horrible! My stupid Fender amp sounds better. (Trust me my fender amp sucks buttnuggets.)
@ArmedAlex yes, that would be correct. Gilmour is my favorite for sure. People think his playing is easy, its not. But, i must say its fun playing a few PF solos !
@motokev I think we share the same taste. It's relatively easy to follow Gilmour's style because he uses a lot of minor and pentatonic scales, but the difficult part is following his sound, tone and creativity, in my opinion. I can't reproduce his bendings and tremolos, and I can't reproduce the feeling he put into every note he plays. They are his trademark I think.
@afsartori that is very true, its all about the feel that gilmour puts in his playing. His bends are beyond words as his vibrato and phrasing. All we can do is thank him for such great music.
@rclocutor It's funny... thanks to you I changed my mind. I bought the VOX Valvetronix VT15. The Cube and the Spider are no match to the Valvetronix VT series, in my opinion. First of all, the VT15, VT30, VT50 and VT100 have all the same features. Only the power changes. They have 22 amp models and 11 differente effects, plus independent reverb. You can ajust the speaker power output to your desire, unlike the Cube's power squeezer which is only "on" or "off". Go check VT's videos and website.
@rclocutor And more, the VOX Valvetronix VT series amps have a real tube. The Cube and the Spider don't. You have 4 different channels available to save your preferable amp settings and you have 22 different presets that allow you to get the sound of famous songs. They don't have a built in tuner, but I don't find it necessary when you have so many features. Roland and Line 6, I'm sorry, but you'll have to do better :-)
@afsartori You're right about the features: the vox has a lot of features, but i think that the cube has some advantages too. First of all, roland is a brand that traditionally manufactures synthesizers, whereas vox produces valvular equipments. Therefore, given Roland's tradition of emulating all kinds of sounds, the emulations of classic amplifiers - though it possesses less-, they are much more reall than vox emulations.
@afsartori Without doubts the vt 30 possesses many independent effects, but when they are comnbined with the clasics amps presets, the sound turns confuse … it does not happens with the cube. Finally the most important thing: the cube has an awesome clean channel, that is perfect to play with an acoustic guitar.
In addition, his construction does that the sound wins in basses … whereas the clean channel of the vt 30 loses clarity, since it has a little crunch.
@afsartori If we evaluate the amps for their features, I stay with the vox. But if we evaluate for their sound quality … i preffer the cube 30 x, that in addition does not have buzz at high volumes, whereas the vt 30 do. What do you think about?
And please: sorry for my horrible english jajajaja.
@rclocutor Well, I can't say much about the Cube because I never had the opportunity to "test drive" one properly. I had a Cube 15X for a few minutes once. I enjoyed the sound but the amp was a bit limited. I like a lot the VT15's clean channel. You won't have crunch if you adjust the gain and the volume. No complaints. I'm still learning how to get the sound that I want from it but so far I'm very satisfied. About the bass, the VT15 has a lot of it.
I think the Cube 30 sounds more realistic to the amps its trying to imulate. This is where line 6 amps lack. But, I must say, playing a Pod 2.0 or XT with headphones sounds purty good. But, I think the Cube 60 or 80 lack in that imulated sound compared to the 30.
The other thing is that Line six sounds are really choppy and dirty until you wanna spend at least 500 dollars, which won't compete with other amp models at that price. Peavey and Marshall can hold whatever you want there. At this price range too, this amp defeats all competition for what it does.
Hey does this amp have any buzzing? it might be the single coils... So i am using an Ibanez ART-120 (High End Ibanez les paul copy not a piece of shit :P) and it has two active humbuckers called LoZ there is no interferancer with them one my Crate FW15r hoever there is with my strat... i think its the single coils... BUT if i were to get this amp... and use my ibanez art would i get a buzz??
yes, I would say so. U want to dial in a Plexi. so, that will be Brite with Bite and no Effects. I would use the STACK CLASSIC, T=1pm, M=10am, Bass=1pm
I just want to say....I'm still playing this amp and LOVING it. I played the 80x, did nothing for me. I think the 10" speaker is the KEY for this amp.
yeah you can change the trebe basses and the middle but or to metal classsic rock acsutic or even elevate the gain but it dosent sounds real distorcion
Boss pedals are nice and they will set you back about half the price of this amp... so in my opinion... get this amp with all the FX... and use a MT-2 metal zone... or another boss distortion pedal..
I would start with the Stack Classic at 10:00, mid on1:00, bass 12, treb 1, some short delay. I had an Orange Rockerverb, I thought that sounded like J Page.
I do about the same but put the gain on (1-2) turn the volume up a little higher than I need...turn my guitar volume control around 6, and get a good page tone, but when it comes to a solo, or more aggresive part, I just roll up my guitars volume knob to get a bit more volume and gain...glad you like your cube btw, and nice demo man!!!
I have 2 cube 30's and run them in stereo, they are great for what they are, i run them in stack classic, but i like my Roland Bc-60 blues cube amp--60 watts of ass kickin shit!, have a Ibanez with a Tv Jones Pick up on the bridge, a 91 lespaul standard, a reverend slingshot, and a 2000 G@l asat classic semi hollow, amps-1964 Gibson Skylark, 2004 Revend Goblin 5-15 amp- 1965 Vox pacemaker--epiphone valve junior head, and my baby an Orange AD-15 amp built in 9-11-2001try and find it!
i have a epiphone lp custom and this amp and it sounds great! stock pickups which are the same as lp standards epiphone that is. i love the amp too, its great. the gain is adjustable for the modeling channels and is very realistic, best buy under 500 bucks
Well Sir, your rendition of Hey Joe, along with the comments on this video has convinced me to stray away from a Marshall MG30DFX and to get one of these amps :)
You think it would sound good with an Epiphone Les Paul Standard?
Sure it can!! And you dont even need a USB audio card, you can even connect it to your own motherboard´s mic or line-in input and record the pure signal directly into your favourite software. (mind the volume though)
Nice demo! No matter what the purists & tweek-heads say, these modelling amps are just the ticket for your ordinary strumming joes - plug it in, great range of sounds. These seem better than the Line 6s (which are still good): nicer modulations (Roland = Boss), no silly "insane" setting (which I've no use for, but maybe that's me showing my age)
No, never played one. I see they make a 60, 100 and 120. the 60 is $499. the cube 30 is $225. I like amps that are simple. I had the line 6 vetta, Vox VTX60..they have too much stuff. I just want to sit down and turn a couple of knobs and play.
I have been recommending this amp since it came out. I was playing it tonight....thinking, why do i have expensive amps sitting in my basement. Do I really need them, not really. Honestly, I love the tone and feel of this amp. ENJOY !!!
whats the difference between this amp and the 20x cube version? Except for the price and the 10 less watt. Really good review btw, i hope someday i'll be as good as you are.
the 20x has a 8" speaker. I personally like 10" speakers like the 30x. I want to buy the MESA 5:25 with a 10" speaker. the 20X does not have the TWEED or Blackface, which I love.
I plan to buy a Digitech Metal Master pedal, do you think the R-Fied and Metal setting is enough to play heavy stuff like old Metallica, Megadeth ,Slayer, Disturbed and Iron Maiden ? .... or should i buy the pedal ????
Sup man, i got this thing too, if it helps the metal setting-5150 is definetely high gain, godsmack/manson type stuff, i find it too heavy for megadeth, the r-fier/mesa is crazy high gain, this video is nowhere near showing its true gain, sounds just like a triple rect mesa
well the only difference is that it has 30 more watts. if you going to have to be playing loud, the 60 should be your choice. I have a cube 30 and it is loud enough for me.
i have the 60 and 30. I think the 30 brings out the character of each model better than the 60. I think its the 10" speaker. The 60 is more FULL sounding, though.
i have this amp and its great, you can use any pedals (boss work best).there is a built in chromatic tuner it can go RELLY loud for 30 watss. there is as much distortoin as you will ever need with 4 amp models.Four effects tremolo phaser flager chorus delay and reverd you can even plug in your i pod and play along.
nice im definately lookin forward to this a amp,i need one cause i usually play metal and metalcore so i need the extra distortion boost cause i dnt think the amps distortion is enough......is it?????
nice video buddy.......hey jus tel how can one change effects on it i mean if one is usin a heavy metal kinda tin for lead nd wishes to switch to crunchy lead can he do it??? i mean r there any foot switches wit it???? nd wat can te foot switch do??
unfortunetly you can't switch from one model to another. You can switch from the model side to the Clean side with a foot switch though. U know, I was playing the 30x again last night after playing a marshall tube combo. I'm still amazed how close it can come.
so wat do u think abt tis amp jus tel in a nutshell......... a great one for beginers looking for warm tones who cannot afford effect pedals nd hate the overdrive nd fuzz on the cheap processors????
I thought both Amps have the same effects and when i saw the 30x's panel i was disappointed!
I wanted the overdrive and distortion from the 20x and i didnt find them on the 30x, so i thought I'll have to buy the 20x
but i changed my mind after seeing your video. it looks like i can still get that heavy distortion from the 30x along with all the clean effects. would you please confirm that?
If I got it right there are two type of Cube. One is outdated and the other is on the market right now.
My friend bough a Cube 30 two years ago and I didn't like the sound coming from it. It was too digital and 'cold'. Wasn't a very good first impression for me.
i don't have the older one, i sold it. the new cube sounds the same as the old. the cube is a great and fun practice amp. its not a tube amp. its not a amp you would play live. its a amp that sits in your bed room or next to the couch. I think it sounds and offers a lot for a small cheap amp. the best in this type of class of amps.
Thanks...U know, I've had many many amps; some very expensive. But, for home playing I usually plug into the Cube 30. Its hard to explain, but I really enjoy playing the amp. People ask me all the time what amp to buy. I always tell them, BUY the CUBE. I wonder how many of these have been sold. I bet its a very high number.
I own the original cube30, and from this video the new version seems to sound more "tube like" or is it just my ears. At any rate, do you think it's worth buy the newer version if I own the original?
thanks...I can't tell any difference in tone between the old one and the new. Is it worth buying a new one ? well, I think the Dyna Amp, Tuner and 1/8" aux jack are a nice addition. The squeezer they added is so so.
i'm not sorry for the upgrade. I'd like to see them make the CUBE 60 better. it seems to be more bland on the amp models. Its kinda MUDDY also.
ah ok, perhaps its the pickups you have that are making the difference in sound quality... I have some semi-decent stock pickups on my ibanez s470 but they don't sound nearly as vibrant as your emg's
i like the Bass on 11am, Mid about 10am and the Treble about 1pm. I like the Gain around 9am. I like short delay with the marshall. I like reverb with the blackface and long delay with Mesa. Yes, the David Gilmour EMG pickups are very nice and are very transparent, kinda fender vintage I think.
hey nice demo,i have the same amp but it sounds like shit,no matter what i try it sounds so muddy and horrible,i tried many different eq settings and lowering and raising the gain but still it sounds horrible,im 100% sure its not a problem with my guitar/cable and i tried asking help at like a roland forums, and it seems im the only1 with the problem, could u help me out?thx

have you tried the peavey vypyr? I'm torn between this and the vypur :-(
scytale88 3 years ago
No, never played one. I see they make a 60, 100 and 120. the 60 is $499. the cube 30 is $225. I like amps that are simple. I had the line 6 vetta, Vox VTX60..they have too much stuff. I just want to sit down and turn a couple of knobs and play.

your welcome...........
I have been recommending this amp since it came out. I was playing it tonight....thinking, why do i have expensive amps sitting in my basement. Do I really need them, not really. Honestly, I love the tone and feel of this amp. ENJOY !!!

hi, im a punker nd i was wonderin if its good for punk
LiamBamBam 3 years ago
U know wut ??? I think U can pretty much dial in any tone U desire with it. If U desire more, I would put a BOSS EQ pedal in front of it.

i put a video respose with my review for the guys who asked how a cube handles metal - enjoy
gillenh2o 3 years ago
By The Way ,
whats the EQ on your cube here?
IronDoll2 3 years ago
i always like this amp and other amps set at: Mid=11 am, Bass=11, Treb=1 and if it has presence, i like it at 12:30
motokev 3 years ago
Treble on 1?!
it kills your highs
IronDoll2 3 years ago
whats the difference between this amp and the 20x cube version? Except for the price and the 10 less watt. Really good review btw, i hope someday i'll be as good as you are.
nwLohmann 3 years ago
the 20x has a 8" speaker. I personally like 10" speakers like the 30x. I want to buy the MESA 5:25 with a 10" speaker. the 20X does not have the TWEED or Blackface, which I love.
motokev 3 years ago
I have the Roland Cube 60X, which is awesome for practice..
Santaslave666 3 years ago
how would you say this thing performs for metal, specifically Rammstein, Metallica, Sabbath, Disturbed? So basically both classic and modern metal...
VanTheKraut 3 years ago
i think it can do METAL very well.....
its not my thing, but i think the 5150 would be a good model or the rectifier.
motokev 3 years ago
I have the cube.
it really can do metal but in this video he didnt use all the gain.
IronDoll2 3 years ago
OK .... Can you give some setting for Metallica , Megadeth , Iron Maiden , Slayer and Disturbed ?? ....... i like your tone and sound !!!!!
conanvt6 3 years ago
i like the rectifier. I like the Gain on 9:00 am. I like the MID at 11, Bass at 10 and treb at 1. I like delay on about 9:30
motokev 3 years ago
I plan to buy a Digitech Metal Master pedal, do you think the R-Fied and Metal setting is enough to play heavy stuff like old Metallica, Megadeth ,Slayer, Disturbed and Iron Maiden ? .... or should i buy the pedal ????
conanvt6 3 years ago
Sup man, i got this thing too, if it helps the metal setting-5150 is definetely high gain, godsmack/manson type stuff, i find it too heavy for megadeth, the r-fier/mesa is crazy high gain, this video is nowhere near showing its true gain, sounds just like a triple rect mesa
miller434 3 years ago
yeah, i agree...... its difficult to get the true tone of an amp using just a digital camera. take my word, this amp is worth buying.
motokev 3 years ago
Hello, will it sound good with a multi-effect processor or a distortion pedal?
conanvt6 3 years ago
don't need them, but yeah....
on the clean channel
motokev 3 years ago
how bout that cube 60. i heard it is better than this one
thecoolkid657 3 years ago
well the only difference is that it has 30 more watts. if you going to have to be playing loud, the 60 should be your choice. I have a cube 30 and it is loud enough for me.
ftball9773 3 years ago
i have the 60 and 30. I think the 30 brings out the character of each model better than the 60. I think its the 10" speaker. The 60 is more FULL sounding, though.
motokev 3 years ago
yay, go roland! i love this amp.

so if i was playing guitar with my friends and theyre playing on like 45w amps, will i get drowned out with this amp?
dmacthemac 3 years ago
tube amps ?? if so, then most likely. if 45 watt solid state, you'll be OK
motokev 3 years ago
actually we'll be playing in overdrive so will i still be ok?
dmacthemac 3 years ago
Ooo, loved the sound at 7:50!!!

Bowtome09 3 years ago
Nice playing mate.
I really like the tone and your set up.
It also sounds like you have a single coil tele
BlindLemonJR 3 years ago
thanks.....
the pickups are EMG SA single coils. Its the D Gilmour assembly from EMG. Love that setup.
motokev 3 years ago
i have this amp and its great, you can use any pedals (boss work best).there is a built in chromatic tuner it can go RELLY loud for 30 watss. there is as much distortoin as you will ever need with 4 amp models.Four effects tremolo phaser flager chorus delay and reverd you can even plug in your i pod and play along.
beachlaxman5 3 years ago
does it sound good when you play it loud?
thespoon 3 years ago
yes, very much so
motokev 3 years ago
can u use boss pedals with this amp????plz reply thnx
TwiSteDxMeTaLx91 3 years ago
yes u can....
best on the JC or Tweed. But, I never use a pedal, don't need one.
motokev 3 years ago
nice im definately lookin forward to this a amp,i need one cause i usually play metal and metalcore so i need the extra distortion boost cause i dnt think the amps distortion is enough......is it?????
TwiSteDxMeTaLx91 3 years ago
im pretty sure it is man, if you whact some of jhonny demarcos stuff,
youll see it is enough.

hey do post a video showin the different settins wit hig gain.........if possibl
rishulmatta16 3 years ago
nice video buddy.......hey jus tel how can one change effects on it i mean if one is usin a heavy metal kinda tin for lead nd wishes to switch to crunchy lead can he do it??? i mean r there any foot switches wit it???? nd wat can te foot switch do??
rishulmatta16 3 years ago
unfortunetly you can't switch from one model to another. You can switch from the model side to the Clean side with a foot switch though. U know, I was playing the 30x again last night after playing a marshall tube combo. I'm still amazed how close it can come.
motokev 3 years ago
so wat do u think abt tis amp jus tel in a nutshell......... a great one for beginers looking for warm tones who cannot afford effect pedals nd hate the overdrive nd fuzz on the cheap processors????
rishulmatta16 3 years ago
Dude, Thank you so much!!
I was really confused between the 20x and 30x
I thought both Amps have the same effects and when i saw the 30x's panel i was disappointed!
I wanted the overdrive and distortion from the 20x and i didnt find them on the 30x, so i thought I'll have to buy the 20x
but i changed my mind after seeing your video. it looks like i can still get that heavy distortion from the 30x along with all the clean effects. would you please confirm that?
thanks again for a great demo.

If I got it right there are two type of Cube. One is outdated and the other is on the market right now.
My friend bough a Cube 30 two years ago and I didn't like the sound coming from it. It was too digital and 'cold'. Wasn't a very good first impression for me.
Can you make a video compare them two?
mindlancer 3 years ago
i don't have the older one, i sold it. the new cube sounds the same as the old. the cube is a great and fun practice amp. its not a tube amp. its not a amp you would play live. its a amp that sits in your bed room or next to the couch. I think it sounds and offers a lot for a small cheap amp. the best in this type of class of amps.
motokev 3 years ago
nice video & nice playing.
I own one of these amps, they're awesome.
Do you use a tremolo bar?
Squax01 3 years ago
What EQ and Gain Settings do you use for each amp Setting in the video? THX for your help!

Beautiful Playing, especially on the Dyna-Amp part. I'm thinking about getting one of these.
Wes919 3 years ago
Thanks...U know, I've had many many amps; some very expensive. But, for home playing I usually plug into the Cube 30. Its hard to explain, but I really enjoy playing the amp. People ask me all the time what amp to buy. I always tell them, BUY the CUBE. I wonder how many of these have been sold. I bet its a very high number.

Nice video
I own the original cube30, and from this video the new version seems to sound more "tube like" or is it just my ears. At any rate, do you think it's worth buy the newer version if I own the original?
albobear 4 years ago
thanks...I can't tell any difference in tone between the old one and the new.
Its kinda MUDDY also.
motokev 4 years ago
ah ok, perhaps its the pickups you have that are making the difference in sound quality... I have some semi-decent stock pickups on my ibanez s470 but they don't sound nearly as vibrant as your emg's
albobear 4 years ago
btw, what are your usual settings you use for the amp? thanks!
albobear 4 years ago
i like the Bass on 11am, Mid about 10am and the Treble about 1pm. I like the Gain around 9am. I like short delay with the marshall. I like reverb with the blackface and long delay with Mesa. Yes, the David Gilmour EMG pickups are very nice and are very transparent, kinda fender vintage I think.
motokev 4 years ago
it is! a friend of mine have one and it's kick ass... I think I'm gonna buy one.
