  • hey you guys, do someone know the name of the usb interface? because de link show different interface!

  • and thus the midi fighter was born

  • James Franco?

  • i have a rock band drum how i can use it as a midi controller?

  • @dsv3000 lol, I saw on a live gig video DJ Ravine used his "guitar hero guitar" pick thingy for rolls

  • What's that amazing song in the inbetweens? I must know!

  • @stickmister321 Sean Kingston one?

  • @DjHutchx 7:07 comes that heavenly amazing song.

  • Better buy a gamepad, disassebmle it and put in the box. With a software it will work like a good controller.

  • The awkward moment when your controller blows up while you're performing :S

  • the birth of the midi fighter

  • lol why spend all that money and time building a pile of crap, go buy a cheap one for 40-60 bucks lol

  • @agdthatguy This is funner.

  • I could even play with it at a club... Thanks ;)

  • I love the music it's from Borderlands !! Cage the elephant

  • Legend

  • Faggot

  • God, I'd hate to dive that far into actual hands on work. I'll just stick with Touch OSC, any control I want, anyhow.

  • believe me, you can do TONS with a tiny box.

    nopedo.

  • *pentiometer....not potentiometer...

  • @freeheelfreestyler haha what's wrong with you?

  • @conor1148 oh shit, you're right. hahahahaha

  • Hey Ean, where can i find a smaller version of the interface you used in this video?

  • Why didn't the sliders work?

  • so my question is can i use piezos instead of buttons and can this work with something like ez drummer for electro drum set thanks

  • whats the last song

  • Dj 101

  • joder que putada no esta en español cuanto dinero se han gastado en todo eso?

  • @fibraoptica41 juajajajaj las ventajas de hablar ingles, muy barato lo mas caro es la interface y los botones suongo...

  • haha XD, this dude is the brother of Hugh Jackman....

  • hey ean, where would you get good touch sensitive rotary encoders and what did you use to connect to usb? please reply thanks

  • Dj - LOL

  • dj lol... lol

  • Dj-lol

  • Can I control FL Studio with this?

  • @JotaLegendOfficial I wouldnt know, but I dont think so, Fl studio Isnt very good for live stuff, id suggest after you have the converter you run it into traktor pro.

  • why not use regular wire and strip ends?

  • Great job, Ean. I see you couldn't get the touch strip potentiometers to work. Have you found any since this video that you would recommend? I see this video was from a while ago.

  • thats whats up! now i can make my owne equiptment!

  • Oh, man. I'd forgotten that Ean is actually kinda cool.

More like this please and less of the selling stuff.

    (I know, I know, you're developing a business) ;]

  • it looks like a gaming controller

  • osculator is also a good programm!!

  • Thanks a bunch for the tip Leo! It works just as you said.

Adding a 100k ohm resistor across Ground and Input forces the board to see the softpot when the board is initially powered up. It also pulls the "open" (untouched) output values down toward zero.

I'm going to try a 120k ohm resistor to see if I can get the "open" (untouched) value down to zero.

  • Hi guys, the soft pots did not work because they were not detected when you plug the controller in.

When softpot is not depressed it looks like (and it is) an open circuit from its wiper (moving point) connection perspective.

If you want to FORCE their detection take a 100 kOhm resistor and connect it between softpot output (that would go into BU0836X input, e.g. X, Y, Z, etc) and GND terminal.

This makes BU0836X see that there is something attached to its input when it starts up.

  • "Happ" arcade buttons are nice, but i need something more space saving for the design i have in mind, i like the size of the buttons on the monome 256.

does anyone know where i can find something like that?

  • heh...hiv..

  • Starting to buy the potentiometers and various toys now, but am not sure which case to go with. Any recommendations? Figure I want a fader for the tracks, a rotary to slide through playlists, 8ish arcade buttons, and 4 rotary knobs. What am I looking for in terms of size or a specific one? I was looking at Mouser part # 563-CU-1933-MB, but am not even sure if that's what I need to look for.

  • in 100$ i can buy one..

  • @236987451

Not many midi controllers for 100 other than korg nanoseries or an mpd18. Do u know of any others? let me know if u do lol im looking for one.

  • Song is «Jacknife Lee - Making Me Money (switch remix)»

  • LOL "Each of our potentiometers is sending out three signals ... " - pots are passive - they don't "send".

  • baller

  • OMG..!! You are so.... Dave Grohl.. :))

  • You guys Rock!!!!

  • i think i pat my bak too hard.

  • Eh would of cost like 8 bucks if you made it with an actual midi port. That would involve knowledge of how to wire up and program a micro. I guess most computers don't have midi ports anyway.

  • Song in beging?

  • 1:03 - 1:08 That's what SHE said.

  • @seowhistleblower 3:27 - 3:30 , that's also something she said...

  • HAhahahahahahahaha how does thishaave more views than my video

  • Good job Very good teacher ;) Thanks.

  • Please someone tel me where i can find that board!!!

  • should i make one out of nes case?

  • i didnt know that pots had ground, signal and power.... retard

  • @RUTGERMORTENSEN just some good natured ribbing is all. As long as the word is communicated successfully i suppose it doesn't matter what noise you use. good analogy would be all the BS spellings used for net-speak.

  • @Chemie89 I hate that Brits add an 'r' sound to any word that ends in 'a'.... "area" not "airier" :D

anyway, i'll just keep saying it the way i always do "conductive metal melting fixative"

  • @Prohl84 thats the way the word is said, remember america is still a new country in comparison to the english language

  • The current will ruin the LED not the voltage...n00b

  • does it have midi-out output? A mean using midi cable, not usb

  • how about faders??

  • you wanna make sure theyre fairly long, ALMOST AS BIG AS ME, 7 or 8 inches...

  • if u hook up piezos will the buttons become velocity sensative?

  • I hate that Americans say sodder.....Solder is pronounced "Soulder" not "Sodder"

  • this is one poronga de jet

  • can you use a mouse board to make this?

  • what midi chip is he using anyone? i'm trying really hard to find a midi chip D:

  • Linux software? I am going to see if i can use this with MIXXX look it up.

  • Very nice tutorial and project. I've been looking for a way to make my own MIDI rig to use with Guitar Rig 4, and this has helped A LOT! One question though. The buttons that you have used are momentary buttons and not toggle buttons, correct?

  • @cperalta92 yeah arcade buttons are always momentary

  • what amount of ohms per potentiometer is suitable? is 1k ohms enought or I need more?

  • thats dope than a mug!!!!!!!....but i think if i had to pay 100 id just buy one....but still thats dope than a mug!!!

  • Very good tutorial ean!

What interface do you use ?

  • DJ-LOL

  • what interface did you use?

  • @pphatmat, wont work because i need pots wont work on buttons of a video game control

  • OMG GO TO SHOP AND BUY A KEYBOARD FUCKING HORSES

  • @Ve1Ndetta ok apperently you have no iea what a midi controller

  • @1nitromax Fuck You

  • @Ve1Ndetta haha ur soo stupid

  • @Ve1Ndetta

  • hello, i got a question, i'm a 13 year old dj and computer freak and i'm verry handing in this stuff. i only need some help, choosing my stuff to build it... i was thinking about 4 knobs: ( black ) effect on, and the 3 parameters on or effect 1,2,3 on ( 1 button left for other things ) and 7 potentiometers for: ( also black if possible ) 3x effect selecting 1x dry/wet and 3x effect volume or 1x dry/wet 3x parameter 1x effect select 2 sorry for bad english thx for help grtzz
  • @laurenshens hey just use an old video game controller then replace them to the spots you want them.

  • @pphatmat

Really, can yU show us, or guide us or i don't now, im kind of new with all this, but i want something for a mac os with a Logic Pro 8 ). anything., Thanks...

  • just buy a trigger finger for $80...?

  • Shmik very shmik, thanks bro

  • WTF? I know how to wire this $hit! 4:00 i thought you were gonna say HIV -_-

  • WTF? I know how to wire this $hit!

  • yo what is the name of the outro song?

  • awesome !

  • are you gonna show how it works.....sounded interesting but its stupid not to demo it

  • Hi There, great project I was wondering if you can give me a little advise, I also have bought a midi controller and experimenting with it, im just stuck on one thing I want to convert midi signals into visible light pulses using a LED, can you tell me were do I solder that LED on the board ? I really appreciate if you can help me.

  • how is that thing at 8:02 called? can i find sth for less than 50$?

  • @DJGPR2

    it was h ttp://w ww.leobo dnar.c o m/products/BU 0836X/

    without spaces

  • or u could buy a decent one novation dicer for £79

  • you know. as an arcade afficianado you can use simple aligator clamps for the wireing instead of having to sodder the wires from the buttons to the pcb. if you open up a Madcatz Standard edtion or Tournament edition fight stick its set up like that.

  • Wtf is a soddering iron and toobing? Last time I checked it was a SULD-ER-ING iron and CHOOBING

  • @gergy008 Its spelled Soldering and Tubing and pronounced "Sod-er-ing" and "too-bing"

  • @DancingWaldo ignore gergy008......he is obviously trolling......don't feed the trolls

  • Not trolling, Just expressing my opinion. I'm curious to why the Americans say it like that.

  • @DancingWaldo Unless you're British, in which case it's "sole-der-ing" or "sol-der-ing" (we pronounce the "L" - I have no idea why Americans don't) and "t'you-bing" (sometimes "choo-bing" in some regions).

Yeah, gergy008 is probably trolling, but his profile says he's in the UK, so (aside from choosing some odd ways of spelling things) is accurate.

  • @DancingWaldo Well the english language comes from england not america so you obide by our rules.

  • @DancingWaldo h*tt*p*://t*in*yurl.*co*m*/37y5ash and h*tt*p*://t*in*yurl.*co*m*/2vd7ltx

    Remove the asterisks

  • What is that song that goes through whole video?

  • Here..is..some..tubing..

  • @1;27 thats a brad point drill bit,not a routing tool

  • OMFG U ROCK MAN! ur the best i support u!

  • lol i thought it said "basic mind control"

damn i wanted to learn mind control...

  • @smellyDEADMEAT brain control is better :P

  • Could you tell me the song in the beginning?

  • @Dennispr0 switch remix makin me money :D

  • have you made any videos showing controllers we can make to compliment existing midi controllers like FX buttons etc

  • simple, easy, awesome!

  • Awesome!!

  • the longer is anode, the shorter is katode

  • this was a very bad tutorial. spotty coverage and not very explaintiory

  • @2reallyboredguys I disagree... I thought all of the relevant material was covered. It was quick simple and gave you leads to gather any additional information you may require. One of the better tutorials I have seen on this subject. Maybe you were just being a little hyper-critical?

  • Why don't you just configure your midi card a return signal to lit the LED when particular function is on or off. Most cards provide this features. I wish I could find a cheap card with this feature as well for my project now(USB Dj midi controller). Over all you r project is excellent.

  • @gigabrid I'm lookin for a board too...any advice?

  • just brek open old gamepad and make with its parts ;)

  • @ jollymosher: yes you can use the internals of a USB keyboard, that's what i'm gonna do to give bass kill and sync functions to my crappy little DJ mixer.

however, you cannot use potentiometers or faders, just simple buttons or switches, because whatever you do to it, a key still has only two states, pressed or not pressed.

  • i was thinking about doing this same kind of thing, but using the board from a usb keyboard. Putting it in a wooden box and Soldering new connections for buttons straight onto that in place of the keys. Does anyone know if this will work?

  • @jollymosher It does work; I did that a while back. Word of advice though: use good buttons. I used crappy plastic Radio Shack ones, and they crapped out on me VERY quickly.

Also, if you happen to be using Ableton Live, you don't need to worry about USB to MIDI stuff, as Live lets you assign any key to specific functions.

  • thats what she said when he was talking about the wires

  • it almost looks like it says: DJ-LOL

  • how about us linux folk?

  • Comment removed

  • Does any1 noe if u can make a midi control 4 virtual dj thats already built and has a usb?? SUM1 PLEASSEE HEELLPPPP!!!!:(

  • @ThugLifePr0ductions "make a midi control thats already built"

  • lol nice chunky drill bit... :^P

  • How much delay does a home made midi controller have?

As far as I know, it's supposed to have ASIO drivers.. I'm not sure..

    What are your experiences?

  • ty m8:::::::::::::::::::::::::DDD

  • Let's hear more of that song at the end of the Vid,. Please?

  • well this helps, but how would I set it up to control volume/modulation? I want to put a volume/wah pedal on mine and I'm not sure how to make that happen.

  • Jacknife Lee - Making Me Money (Switch Remix)

  • for 100 bucks you can just get the hercules e2

  • Which USB Inteface u are using?

  • on a side note "tube" is spelled with an "e", tub is what you take a bath in, other than that nice vid 8)

  • too bad i only wanted to see how to map faders lol nice work tho

  • can you use an arduino?

  • Use a 1/chunky drill bit (lol) love it!

  • in the LED as in life the size do matter

  • is this the guy who made the midi fighter? GENIOUS

  • I like the song :D

  • you forgot about midipipe for mac. :p

  • Awesome man, awesome!

  • hi there ean im just wondering i got a joy stick. doze your software lists stated on this video works with ps3 joystick

  • this looks almost possible :P

  • looks nice.

do you know how to make an external MIDI pitch bend wheel?

many keyboards have pitch bend wheel. many don't :(

  • the project is excellent but i just got a fool question, what's the name of the green board?

  • @CtoniosQuimio its an HID device, you can get one for a joystiq or a less specifical one i think would do it too

  • fatty cocky

  • Great tutorial, which software did you use with your MIDI controller? And im not sure, do you use a Mac or PC?

  • Hi there my name is k1rkyd and i was wondering if when you have any sort of power running through the pot, does it give a crackle?

  • that tubing is actually called heatshrink. good video though

  • You can also program your own HID to MIDI converter using PD (PureData). También pueden usar PD (PureData) para hacer el convertidor HID a MIDI.

  • @psicodelio I use MidiHID, easy as fuck if you know basic scripting...

  • thank you for this video. most people don't like to make these sorts of tutorials for the beginner. It was well done! I subscribed n 5*starred.

  • Comment removed

  • you looks like a young wolverine xP

  • where can i buy arcade buttons

  • watch the end of the video, he tells you everything

  • you could always do a bit more work and go the midibox way. i know people have done pretty amazing stuff on midibox kits, including full-blown midi controllers for traktor pro.

  • hes a dick, you should see his other vids / site - ripping people off

  • thank you for this video, i will definetly build a midi devise even though i own a few, just because i love to lern things like this, it helps me apreachiate what i do more, anyone intrested in this mite also be intrested in circuit bending and creating there own vsts to, as for the comment about the nano pad yea u kud buy one and it will probably be better but were is the fun and self education in that?

  • this is very cool!

    I want a drill too

perhaps I buy a whole set!

  • just buy a korg nano kontrol.. cheaper and waaaaay better and more knobs, faders etc.
