@JotaLegendOfficial I wouldnt know, but I dont think so, Fl studio Isnt very good for live stuff, id suggest after you have the converter you run it into traktor pro.
Great job, Ean. I see you couldn't get the touch strip potentiometers to work. Have you found any since this video that you would recommend? I see this video was from a while ago.
Thanks a bunch for the tip Leo! It works just as you said.
Adding a 100k ohm resistor across Ground and Input forces the board to see the softpot when the board is initially powered up. It also pulls the "open" (untouched) output values down toward zero.
I'm going to try a 120k ohm resistor to see if I can get the "open" (untouched) value down to zero.
Hi guys, the soft pots did not work because they were not detected when you plug the controller in.
When softpot is not depressed it looks like (and it is) an open circuit from its wiper (moving point) connection perspective.
If you want to FORCE their detection take a 100 kOhm resistor and connect it between softpot output (that would go into BU0836X input, e.g. X, Y, Z, etc) and GND terminal.
This makes BU0836X see that there is something attached to its input when it starts up.
"Happ" arcade buttons are nice, but i need something more space saving for the design i have in mind, i like the size of the buttons on the monome 256.
does anyone know where i can find something like that?
Starting to buy the potentiometers and various toys now, but am not sure which case to go with. Any recommendations? Figure I want a fader for the tracks, a rotary to slide through playlists, 8ish arcade buttons, and 4 rotary knobs. What am I looking for in terms of size or a specific one? I was looking at Mouser part # 563-CU-1933-MB, but am not even sure if that's what I need to look for.
Eh would of cost like 8 bucks if you made it with an actual midi port. That would involve knowledge of how to wire up and program a micro. I guess most computers don't have midi ports anyway.
@RUTGERMORTENSEN just some good natured ribbing is all. As long as the word is communicated successfully i suppose it doesn't matter what noise you use. good analogy would be all the BS spellings used for net-speak.
Very nice tutorial and project. I've been looking for a way to make my own MIDI rig to use with Guitar Rig 4, and this has helped A LOT! One question though. The buttons that you have used are momentary buttons and not toggle buttons, correct?

hello, i got a question, i'm a 13 year old dj and computer freak and i'm verry handing in this stuff. i only need some help, choosing my stuff to build it... i was thinking about 4 knobs: ( black ) effect on, and the 3 parameters on or effect 1,2,3 on ( 1 button left for other things ) and 7 potentiometers for: ( also black if possible ) 3x effect selecting 1x dry/wet and 3x effect volume or 1x dry/wet 3x parameter 1x effect select 2 sorry for bad english thx for help grtzz

Hi There, great project I was wondering if you can give me a little advise, I also have bought a midi controller and experimenting with it, im just stuck on one thing I want to convert midi signals into visible light pulses using a LED, can you tell me were do I solder that LED on the board ? I really appreciate if you can help me.
you know. as an arcade afficianado you can use simple aligator clamps for the wireing instead of having to sodder the wires from the buttons to the pcb. if you open up a Madcatz Standard edtion or Tournament edition fight stick its set up like that.
@DancingWaldo Unless you're British, in which case it's "sole-der-ing" or "sol-der-ing" (we pronounce the "L" - I have no idea why Americans don't) and "t'you-bing" (sometimes "choo-bing" in some regions).
Yeah, gergy008 is probably trolling, but his profile says he's in the UK, so (aside from choosing some odd ways of spelling things) is accurate.
@2reallyboredguys I disagree... I thought all of the relevant material was covered. It was quick simple and gave you leads to gather any additional information you may require. One of the better tutorials I have seen on this subject. Maybe you were just being a little hyper-critical?
Why don't you just configure your midi card a return signal to lit the LED when particular function is on or off. Most cards provide this features. I wish I could find a cheap card with this feature as well for my project now(USB Dj midi controller). Over all you r project is excellent.
@ jollymosher: yes you can use the internals of a USB keyboard, that's what i'm gonna do to give bass kill and sync functions to my crappy little DJ mixer.
however, you cannot use potentiometers or faders, just simple buttons or switches, because whatever you do to it, a key still has only two states, pressed or not pressed.
i was thinking about doing this same kind of thing, but using the board from a usb keyboard. Putting it in a wooden box and Soldering new connections for buttons straight onto that in place of the keys. Does anyone know if this will work?
@jollymosher It does work; I did that a while back. Word of advice though: use good buttons. I used crappy plastic Radio Shack ones, and they crapped out on me VERY quickly.
Also, if you happen to be using Ableton Live, you don't need to worry about USB to MIDI stuff, as Live lets you assign any key to specific functions.
well this helps, but how would I set it up to control volume/modulation? I want to put a volume/wah pedal on mine and I'm not sure how to make that happen.
you could always do a bit more work and go the midibox way. i know people have done pretty amazing stuff on midibox kits, including full-blown midi controllers for traktor pro.
