They just released a brand new recording in October called "Bang." It's an album of mostly originals. "Hard Time" and "A-Punk" are the only two covers. John K. Brown wrote "Shemibos." Steven Dorian wrote "Malibu Grand-Prix." George Baldi III wrote "No Pressure." Jeff wrote "Too Much" and "The Shortest Path." Everything else was written by Scott Leonard.
@mormonhobbit Barry left in 2002 and was replace by George Baldi III. Elliott left in 2004 and was replaced by John K. Brown. And most recently, Kevin left in 2009 and was replaced by Steven Dorian.
@Jude1968 Actually, Scott officially said, in the last Rockapella newsletter, that recording is underway for a new one.
And rumors are flying around on the Rockapella message board on their website that there's a Christmas one in the works, too, both with the new guy on them.
I've gotta disagree. My first exposure to a capella was an old video of an all black group from the 60s. Couldn't tell you what that group was called, but they were even better than Rockapella (which is saying a hell of a lot because these guy are the bomb).
These are great men! Met them back in 2004. Check out their website and get some tickets near ya!!! An experience that change my life, it's awesome! God I love Rockapella!!!!
the stage presence on these guys is priceless. This is something I've rarely seen elsewhere- they move together but it's not "dancing" per se. just the subtle effect of everyone moving forward at the same time can be really compelling to the audience. pure brilliance.
Race has nothing to do with it. That being said, I like George and John. I'd prefer to have Barry over George (no offense) though I prefer John over Elliot.
ok cdubzzz...from watching your videos it seems you would have a lot of room to talk, wouldn't you? i just saw rockapella live a few weeks ago and they don't lipsync. sorry to insult your intelligence, but you clearly have no idea what you are talking about. so save us all the trouble and don't talk.
HOW DARE YOU COMPARE ROCKAPELLA TO BRITNEY SPEARS! If it looks like they're lip syincing - it's a glich in the video. I've seen Rockapella a dozen times over the past 7 years and I can assure you: it's as real as it gets. I hate to say it, but there are nights when they can't perform certain songs based on how their voices feel.
Tonight Tonight Tonight Tonight - you know it's 'bout that time tonight Tonight I'm gonna feed that cat Tonight I'm gonna get me mine tonight Tonight you know it is, Tonight you know it is Tonight you know it is 'bout that time tonight Tonight I'm gonna, Tonight I'm gonna Tonight I'm gonna get me some sugar tonight Oo the beat is sweet tonight, I got a pocket full of spendin' money Do your honey bunny right Tonight Tonight Tonight, oh get me some sugar Tonight Tonight Tonight
I just saw my first live Rockapella show last night and they opened with this. Uh...incredible! I think Scott Leonard was excited to be in his hometown...so was I!
bueno mis felicitaciones espero entiendan el español... seria espectacular que cantaran en español también.. su trabajo es excelente soy un fanático de su música, aquí en Venezuela no se conoce mucho sobre rockapella como consigo música y videos de ellos?
I love this band. I'm a big fan from germany and these guys are my favorite a-capella band. Nobody sounds like them. I'm in an a-capella band too and we've already couvered some of the songs from Rockapella. Great boys! Realy awesome!
Rockapella is still Rockapella. I do think that once Scott does retire, the sound of the group might change pending a new lead tenor, but they are still Rockapella none the less, and will always have my support. :-)
Speaking of ol' Barry Carl; Has anyone seen the movie, "Sing Now or Forever Hold Your Peace" with him in it? It's supposed to be a decent movie. It was a limited release though
Sorry, Scott Leonard is the only remaining one who stayed with the group for 15+ years, I think (correct me, if I'm wrong since barry carl was with the group for awhile as well), but Scott is not an original member. Barry Carl is doing voice overs and movie trailer voice overs as well as far I know.
Elliott left the group to spend more time with his family and pursue other things. For a while he was helping his wife with some type of designing business and was doing that until he could get his jazz combo together. He's done a few gigs with his jazz combo since then.
Elliott left the group since he wanted to spend time with his family. The 3 original members reunited with someone new and another beatboxer who is new as well as the 4th and 5th members. They're still Rockapella, but with new members.
The short answer is "No." Jeff Thatcher is the original Vocal Percussionist who joined in 1993. Before him, Rockapella was a four-man group with no percussion from Brown University. I think the original group have gotten back together and are called The Groovebarbers.
Barry retired. Scott Leonard's been around as long as rockapella's gotten any real publicity-i.e. Where in the world is Carmen Sandiego? and the folgers commercial. i'm assuming elliot kerman retired too, i doubt they kicked him out.
like cosmosguy said, everyone has different favorites, but tombstonedm, your just plain wrong. Of the cosmos songs i have heard on here, i have never heard any of them do anything that could be considered beat boxing, just vocal fluxuation. And Cosmos don't harmonize with singing like rockapella does, they harmonize with sounds. Not only are your facts wrong, but most of them are just opinions, and you can't use opinions when you're trying to prove something.
im sry but you can't be more wrong, cosmos have better voices, have a tenor that goes way higher, a bass that goes waaaaay lower, i mean i can do this guy's low notes! and the beat box is NOTHING compared to cosmos, he is only doing plain stuff, nothing complicated of worth being wowed at, PLUS! cosmos create muuuuch better harmonies than these, man, you ought to hear more of cosmos!
whats the point of a high tenor? it doesnt mean hes a good singer.... same with a bass, Rockapellas bass has soul... he doesnt straing his voice... and rockapellas VOICE PERCUSSION, he imitates the sound of drums... and cosmos dont harmonise i watched a video of them on here and all they do is random pitch hitting... oh dont quote me on this one, but cosmos dont write their own songs
This comment is unfounded unless the bass from Cosmos can sing like JD Sumner because I have sung with George Baldi (The Bass) and he can sing down to a low B-flat verry easily. His upper range is solid too including a crazy high falsetto.
Jeff is not doing plain VP my friend. His beats are interlaced with very complex Rhythmic patterns incorporating the sounds he can also make with his throat. That's why he wears those guitar pickups on his throat. He was the first to do this. Do you have any clips or examples of Cosmos that we can sample?
Minor corrections: There were two basses prior to Barry Carl. Carl retired in 2002. Kevin Wright, although never on Carmen, appeared with Carl, Kerman, Leonard, and Thacher on the famous Folgers ads.

the original group didn't even have jeff. jeff came on board the same time they were asked to do carmen san diego. the original group was 4 guys that started the group in 1987 with sean altman, steve keyes, elliott kerman, and david stix. stix wasn't around for long though. the carmen sandiego edition of rockapella had jeff, scott, elliott, barry, and sean. elliott left the group about 2 or 3 years ago with his last show being at the BB King bar and grill in times square new york.
there was no full-time beatbox like they have with jeff. so far he's the first and only full-time vocal percussion they've had. jeff sings a little bit in "up on the roof" and has one line of singing in "tempted" before jeff, they made the bass fill in whatever rests he had with some very basic percussion sounds, but that was it.
you learn a lot from reading web sites, articles from magazines, and going to their concerts. i've been to 6 of them and each time you learn a little something.
These guys have come a long way since the days of Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego. I love their new base man. He doesn't have the same presence as their original, Barry Carl, but he's good nonetheless.

( sorry the errors,im brazilian rsrsrs)

Because he sucked. Sorry, but it's true.
He just bring the energy to the table that the group needed to survive.
John K. Brown does a much better job by bringing that energy as well as a more appropriate style and vocal range. Same thing with Barry and George.

These guys have come a long way since the days of Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego. I love their new base man. He doesn't have the same presence as their original, Barry Carl, but he's good nonetheless.

Sounding good as ever. I haven't seen them with Mr. Green yet. Saw them two years ago in Memphis.
