  • Were they opening for Yanni?

  • They just released a brand new recording in October called "Bang." It's an album of mostly originals. "Hard Time" and "A-Punk" are the only two covers. John K. Brown wrote "Shemibos." Steven Dorian wrote "Malibu Grand-Prix." George Baldi III wrote "No Pressure." Jeff wrote "Too Much" and "The Shortest Path." Everything else was written by Scott Leonard.

  • I know about Barry...but where's Elliot? He was my favorite out the group. Did he leave too?

  • @mormonhobbit Barry left in 2002 and was replace by George Baldi III. Elliott left in 2004 and was replaced by John K. Brown. And most recently, Kevin left in 2009 and was replaced by Steven Dorian.

  • @mormonhobbit

Wow, someone actually had Elliot as their favorite? I'm not harping, he was just so... quiet & in the background.

  • rockapella=rockafeller... f..k freemasonry

  • looks like Owen Wilson

  • can anyone find the lyrics to this song? i cant find them anywhere.

  • hey! great, really great. but can anybody tell me if this song is covered or original? thx!

  • @FFMmarco This is an original by Scott Leonard, which is what nearly half of the content in their concerts are nowadays.

  • it's soon to be 2010......these guys are long overdue on a new CD!

  • @Jude1968 Actually, Scott officially said, in the last Rockapella newsletter, that recording is underway for a new one.

And rumors are flying around on the Rockapella message board on their website that there's a Christmas one in the works, too, both with the new guy on them.

Sadly, Kevin won't be on either one.

  • Thanks Zandl, I found out on the Rockapella Facebook page :)

We never got a CD out of the last lineup, sadly.

  • uauuuuu

  • i always imagined them as an all black group

  • why?

  • singing like this is left for white boys. anyone can keep a beat and sing but the white boys keep the real rythem and harmony

  • I've gotta disagree. My first exposure to a capella was an old video of an all black group from the 60s. Couldn't tell you what that group was called, but they were even better than Rockapella (which is saying a hell of a lot because these guy are the bomb).

  • RIP kevin wright =( (in terms of rockapella)

  • george has kinda a michael jackson vibe in this song

  • These are great men! Met them back in 2004. Check out their website and get some tickets near ya!!! An experience that change my life, it's awesome! God I love Rockapella!!!!

  • They're awesome in concert. I got to meet them.

  • awesome dude!!! at my school, they played this video in my music class! awsesome

  • It is 'bout that time tonight.

  • where can i find the lyrics of this song??

  • Comment removed

  • singing in the shower! No better place! :)

  • FLAWLESS

  • wooot if you love this you gotta love voicemale they are dutch and belgium :D they are good :D

  • I'd like to see them perform "Wind Him Up," a 1981 hit by the Canadian progressive-rock band Saga.

  • wow...if i could find a guy w/ a voice like any of these dudes...*whew*...

    Amazing..loved it.

  • the stage presence on these guys is priceless. This is something I've rarely seen elsewhere- they move together but it's not "dancing" per se. just the subtle effect of everyone moving forward at the same time can be really compelling to the audience. pure brilliance.

  • Is this song rockapella's own work or is it a cover? And if it is a cover who did the original?

  • It's an original. Scott Leonard wrote it. They've been using it as the opener for their shows for the past 4 years.

  • Oh yeah, I've seen em when they came to Singapore last year.

This song just mesmerizes me. Real awesome.

    Love em man.

  • @acappellafreak any idea when they are going to come out with a new album featuring this song on it? I love it but cant find it anywhere to download.

  • Thank you I have always loved acapella - but, I have never heard these guys. WOW!!!!!!

    Dj

  • barry carl retired in 02 or maybe 04 and the other white guy retired

  • Barry Carl retired in 04 and Elliott Kerman retired in 06

  • Actually, barry retired in 02, and elliot retired in 04

  • They said Barry retired to teach private lessons in voice.

  • And yet that's not what he's been doing. But hey, he's still fantastic.

  • good song.

  • MVP - Jeff Thatcher

  • These guys are great superb vocal harmony,

    What can i say!!!!

Hope to see you guys in Australia.

  • Why Elliot Kerman lefted the group???

( sorry the errors,im brazilian rsrsrs)

  • Because he sucked. Sorry, but it's true.

He just bring the energy to the table that the group needed to survive.

John K. Brown does a much better job by bringing that energy as well as a more appropriate style and vocal range. Same thing with Barry and George.

  • He left because he'd been there for for years and wanted to do something else.

Elliot Hardly sucked. Don't be an idiot.

  • Have you SEEN or HEARD his concerts from his last few years with Rockapella?

No stage presence, andno energy. That, and he could barely be heard.

  • Where's Barry? ;|

Rockapella isn't the same without that f**kin voice.

  • Barry retired from the group in 2002. He was replaced by George Baldi.

  • Good that they brought in 2 black dudes, I always thought they needed some more soul powah ;)

  • yeah ur right

i think the're much better with that black guys

  • Race has nothing to do with it. That being said, I like George and John. I'd prefer to have Barry over George (no offense) though I prefer John over Elliot.

  • hey can you send me the video please????

this is the best rockpella videos with carmen sandiego

  • I don't suppose anyone knows where I could find the lyrics to this song...? Thanks!

  • Harmonic Geniuses... not better than the manhattan transfer but still extremely entertaining!

  • does anyone know where this performance took place? what stage are they on?

  • well said groove

  • ok cdubzzz...from watching your videos it seems you would have a lot of room to talk, wouldn't you? i just saw rockapella live a few weeks ago and they don't lipsync. sorry to insult your intelligence, but you clearly have no idea what you are talking about. so save us all the trouble and don't talk.

  • HOW DARE YOU COMPARE ROCKAPELLA TO BRITNEY SPEARS! If it looks like they're lip syincing - it's a glich in the video. I've seen Rockapella a dozen times over the past 7 years and I can assure you: it's as real as it gets. I hate to say it, but there are nights when they can't perform certain songs based on how their voices feel.

  • dude they dont lip sync.

  • the video isnt in sync with the audio. watch their finger snapping and listen to the music. they arnt snapping their fingers on the beat.

  • I attended their concert and twice, they sang without amplification either. Pure vocal abiity. brilliant.

  • I've seen them live several times. They don't lip synch. If you notice tons of "uploaded" videos end up being out of sync.

  • omg cdubzzz. why...

  • yeah dude, are you like new to youtube or something? youtube messes up a lot of videos like that

  • Very cool...I expecially like that deep voice but they are all very good!

  • Yes, these people rock !!! A Capella is the hardest of all and these guys are great !!! Thank you so much Deb. Love, Michael

  • Five stars. Dep that indicated. Thank.

  • Amazing!!!

  • Absolutely fantastic! 5 stars!

  • WOW!!!

    *****

  • You said it WOW!!!!

  • Man this is awesome.

    Thank you ***** jack

  • I Love this song! Thanks to SolarBlade00 for the lyrics, I appreciate it. I Love that sound!

  • I love this band. They're always going to be my favorite band, instruments or not.

  • scott is so cool!

  • people. lyrics plz post now!!!

  • they're coming to singapore and i cant go because of the damn exams! T_T

  • Aw. You should have been there. I attended. It was great!

  • i know!! feel my pain! urhhhh.. hate the exams and limitations they brought along. grrrr.

  • Why havn't you uploaded anymore of new Rockapella?

  • I saw them live in Potsdam,NY

  • Absolutely amazing.

  • I agree with nsa, once scott leaves, there will be huge changes, like what happened when Barry left the group

  • I just saw my first live Rockapella show last night and they opened with this. Uh...incredible! I think Scott Leonard was excited to be in his hometown...so was I!

  • I'm speechless! that was great! loved the ending! thanks for sharing!

  • If Scott ever leaves, I'll cry.

  • this is so nice i really love this amazing beatuful.....no technology pure natural talent love it ;)

  • I love this band. I'm a big fan from germany and these guys are my favorite a-capella band. Nobody sounds like them. I'm in an a-capella band too and we've already couvered some of the songs from Rockapella. Great boys! Realy awesome!

  • you gotta get to know the "Wise Guys" ;)

  • yeh

  • Rockapella is still Rockapella. I do think that once Scott does retire, the sound of the group might change pending a new lead tenor, but they are still Rockapella none the less, and will always have my support. :-)

Speaking of ol' Barry Carl; Has anyone seen the movie, "Sing Now or Forever Hold Your Peace" with him in it? It's supposed to be a decent movie. It was a limited release though

  • Sorry, Scott Leonard is the only remaining one who stayed with the group for 15+ years, I think (correct me, if I'm wrong since barry carl was with the group for awhile as well), but Scott is not an original member. Barry Carl is doing voice overs and movie trailer voice overs as well as far I know.

  • Elliott left the group to spend more time with his family and pursue other things. For a while he was helping his wife with some type of designing business and was doing that until he could get his jazz combo together. He's done a few gigs with his jazz combo since then.

  • Elliott left the group since he wanted to spend time with his family. The 3 original members reunited with someone new and another beatboxer who is new as well as the 4th and 5th members. They're still Rockapella, but with new members.

  • Were any of you guys in the original group? It seems like your membership has changed a lot.

  • The short answer is "No." Jeff Thatcher is the original Vocal Percussionist who joined in 1993. Before him, Rockapella was a four-man group with no percussion from Brown University. I think the original group have gotten back together and are called The Groovebarbers.

  • So these guys all just joined the group and then kicked out all of the original members? So, these guys aren't really Rockapella?

  • BTW, where's Barry? He was kind of the main guy of the group. What's he doing now?

  • Barry retired. Scott Leonard's been around as long as rockapella's gotten any real publicity-i.e. Where in the world is Carmen Sandiego? and the folgers commercial. i'm assuming elliot kerman retired too, i doubt they kicked him out.

  • Ok. Sorry about jumping to conclusions.

  • i freakin love you guys.

  • like cosmosguy said, everyone has different favorites, but tombstonedm, your just plain wrong. Of the cosmos songs i have heard on here, i have never heard any of them do anything that could be considered beat boxing, just vocal fluxuation. And Cosmos don't harmonize with singing like rockapella does, they harmonize with sounds. Not only are your facts wrong, but most of them are just opinions, and you can't use opinions when you're trying to prove something.

  • ...my best rockapella songs .. and not forget DIAMONDS too ...

  • they have some new members? when was this?

  • I like this song but the others not so much

  • they beat the cosmos any day everyday

  • Well, you like rockapella and I like cosmos.....wats your problem??Everyone has other favourites...

  • No, they don't ;)

  • im sry but you can't be more wrong, cosmos have better voices, have a tenor that goes way higher, a bass that goes waaaaay lower, i mean i can do this guy's low notes! and the beat box is NOTHING compared to cosmos, he is only doing plain stuff, nothing complicated of worth being wowed at, PLUS! cosmos create muuuuch better harmonies than these, man, you ought to hear more of cosmos!

  • cosmos mate your funny

whats the point of a high tenor? it doesnt mean hes a good singer.... same with a bass, Rockapellas bass has soul... he doesnt straing his voice... and rockapellas VOICE PERCUSSION, he imitates the sound of drums... and cosmos dont harmonise i watched a video of them on here and all they do is random pitch hitting... oh dont quote me on this one, but cosmos dont write their own songs

  • This comment is unfounded unless the bass from Cosmos can sing like JD Sumner because I have sung with George Baldi (The Bass) and he can sing down to a low B-flat verry easily. His upper range is solid too including a crazy high falsetto.

  • Jeff is not doing plain VP my friend. His beats are interlaced with very complex Rhythmic patterns incorporating the sounds he can also make with his throat. That's why he wears those guitar pickups on his throat. He was the first to do this. Do you have any clips or examples of Cosmos that we can sample?

  • Minor corrections: There were two basses prior to Barry Carl. Carl retired in 2002. Kevin Wright, although never on Carmen, appeared with Carl, Kerman, Leonard, and Thacher on the famous Folgers ads.

  • From which album is it from ??

  • "Live from Japan", a self-released CD as they currently are without a label.

  • this is a really great song and ur all right the new bass is really smooth i actaully prefer him to good ol barry cos he is more like a deep soul bass which wins no matter you say :)

  • What actually happened to Barry? :( he was ace lol, and why did they replace 2 of the members?

  • Baryy and Elliott both retired from RP in the last 2 years or so...the two "new" RP members are great, especially live. As others have said, George sings bass because he can, Barry sings bass because he is...both are incredible talents.

  • Oh right, Thanks for the info :)

  • elliott left because he wanted to spend more time with his family and start getting into other things like his jazz combo. i think barry just wanted to start doing other things. either way, the group doesn't have any of the original members from when they started back in 1987

  • wait, aren't the curly haired guy, the main head, and jeff all from the original rockapella vocal group ensemble????whaddayamean the group doesnt have any of the original members from when they sang @ my birthday party???

  • the original group didn't even have jeff. jeff came on board the same time they were asked to do carmen san diego. the original group was 4 guys that started the group in 1987 with sean altman, steve keyes, elliott kerman, and david stix. stix wasn't around for long though. the carmen sandiego edition of rockapella had jeff, scott, elliott, barry, and sean. elliott left the group about 2 or 3 years ago with his last show being at the BB King bar and grill in times square new york.

  • was there a beatbox when they forst started?

  • there was no full-time beatbox like they have with jeff. so far he's the first and only full-time vocal percussion they've had. jeff sings a little bit in "up on the roof" and has one line of singing in "tempted" before jeff, they made the bass fill in whatever rests he had with some very basic percussion sounds, but that was it.

  • crazy, dude...how do you know all this?

  • you learn a lot from reading web sites, articles from magazines, and going to their concerts. i've been to 6 of them and each time you learn a little something.

  • i think their new bass is smooth as vanilla whipped cream.

  • These guys have come a long way since the days of Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego. I love their new base man. He doesn't have the same presence as their original, Barry Carl, but he's good nonetheless.

  • Amazing! :-O

  • theyre jus feeding off the beatboxer

  • oh my goodness, they are really tight

  • I like this group very, very :)

  • Playboy Magazine rates many bands and groups, so it's not uncommon for a group/band to be rated by them.

  • Playboy Magazine?

  • Sounding good as ever. I haven't seen them with Mr. Green yet. Saw them two years ago in Memphis.

  • My favorite A Capella group.
